If you're familiar with SLG VNs (So like Sengoku Rance and shit) it mostly gets its DNA from that genre.So there are some RPG elements (Raising stats, recruiting followers, etc.)There are some strategy/planning elements both long and short termAnd then there are VN decision/choices that heavily influence what comes next etc.There's also a semi-roguelike element where when you fuck up and lose you get to unlock bonuses that make subsequent runs easier. So for example if you go to the Sultan and give him one of the sex cards he'll let you fuck one of his concubines but if you already used all your sex cards earlier in the run you can't ever fuck them. Shit like that.
