You HAVE to completely change setting. "Grounded" NASApunk ensures all planets, enemies, exploration and even gameplay will be boring. Nothing short of fundamentally retconning everything into a full blown Space Opera with aliens at every corner, space magic and melee combat will fix it. It's a mandatory prerequisite, all other minor issues are completely irrelevant.

I don't know but firing Emil (and a whole bunch of other people) would be a good starting point

Shove everything into a single star system, and make it so there's an actual fucking conflict going on instead of everyone being at peace and some space pirates. We still have empire vs stormcloak threads to this day, do you think there'll be space city vs space cowboys threads in 15 years? No! Because bethesda are fucking retards who can't make an interesting game anymore.

>Fix the background NPCs.
>Replace the Constellation members with interesting people (and make Walter a full companion).
>Launch the game in its current state.
I'm having fun with this second play through.

make the galaxy a continuous overworld like in Skyrim. why is every star system its own level box?
mega fail

I imagined a setting where humanity is on the edge of survival - most locations are like Cydonia except with more severe living conditions and brutal laws and peace keeping forces. Space travel is relatively rare and dangerous
The Starborn has made the player character near messianic for many people and a dangerous pariah for most governments
They really went with the most blasé possible take instead and it poisoned the game from the bottom
>>
>actually set during or just before the colony war
>starborn stuff acts as a macguffin that the player can choose to help a faction
>add the survival stuff back, fuel etc
>deterministic universe so POIs aren't just placed randomly but have the same location for all players
>add procedurally generated structures to add variety rather than using the same pool of handcrafted POIs
>don't allow alien flora/fauna to be placed on different planets
>since the whole NG+ thing is a big part of the game, remove any essential NPCs, and have some fallback method of going through the unity
>hide transitions between space and ground better, let me maintain my first-person perspective the whole way through, or even let me walk around my ship as I land or even grav-jump
>if they have to add the starborn shouts (i don't like them) at least make each temple based around the power you get (solve a puzzle using the power) etc

First and foremost fire the entire writing team down to the last man, holy shit.

For whatever reason Bethesda refuses to play to their strengths, which is the creation engine. Whats so great about it? Its immersive, interactive and intimate. Obviously outright simulators are mass appeal poison as the marketing director will tell you, but the method they chose for space travel could not be more diametrically opposed to the appeal of Bethesda games, holy shit.

It's pretty good DESU, I think I'd add a Fallout style radio though the music isn't anything to write home about.
>>
I want them to reintroduce and improve their radiant ai
let me talk to, hire, or even romance anyone in the game, similar to something like the sims or watchdogs 3
give each NPC their own background, traits, preferences etc
>>
i was really hoping it would be more like gundam before release

I think Starfield has fundamental flaws in game design, and it purely comes down to Bethesda using fantasy-world sensibilities in a sci-fi world. It's difficult for me to properly summarise, but just something simple like the fact that there is no form of long-distance communication available to the player. There's a lot of pointless leg-work in quests simply because you have to speak to every character in person when a simple telephone call would suffice. Or the fact that there's human enemy types that don't have a gun, and there role is to rush you with a fire axe, because Bethesda haven't thought about how stupid that is in a sci-fi setting and have just sleep-walked into relying on design tropes of fantasy games. The game is sci-fi, but it follows fantasy-world design, which seriously hurts the overall cohesion of the game. I think unless Bethesda fix this, Starfield is always going to be a flawed IP.

Unironically, no memes, no humorous overstatement, throw it in the trash and make a different space game. There's so much wrong with Starfield and it's so deeply embedded into it that you can't fix it with a patch even with the best of intentions.
>the world is absolutely unappealing, possibly the world game world ever in any RPG
>there is no reason to explore space because there's nothing to find that's worth your time
>the archaic engine makes seamless travel from planet to planet impossible
>awful story, awful quests, awful weapons, awful NPCs, awful everything
>the game's just so damn boring
There's just too much to fix.

I wouldn't fix a single thing, I would listen to them. And that's what no one did.
