I played about half way through Ar Tonelico until I realized I hadn't had fun up until now and doubted the game would radically shift it up. The characters were boring, the plot was anime-safe and the combat was pretty shallow (even for its time).The worldbuilding was alright and the music had some real bangers, but not enough to get me through all the loading screens every 3 feet.

The world was interesting and the music was amazing (I still listen to the songs sometimes), but it couldn't save the boring repetitive combat and the minigames that seemed to amount to nothing but cookie clicker. I would've finished it probably, but I lost my save in a train accident and couldn't bother to restart.

Though from what I know the romhack is glitched and you have to get past a certain scene with the original version. Also the battle voices are pretty important in combat to know when a big attack is coming, which you'll probably struggle to pick up on.Honestly wish the game would just get a re-release but who am I kidding

Ar Tonelico actually sucked. ManaKhemia is the real hidden gem jrpg from the PS2 era. There is also an ending where you have like 10 children with the cute cat girl.

I never played Star Ocean but heard that 2 or 4 was the best one. The only reason I hear anything about it nowadays is because of that girl in the witch hat with a slutty outfit in a modern one.I don't hear anything about any Arc the Lad titles and Twilight of the Spirits was the only one I played and I liked it.
