Playing the remaster made me realize I dont even like oblivion that much. It has a lot of charm and I have a lot of nostalgia for it but it just sucks.
Skyrim is better as a fun game to turn you brain off and play where morrowind is better as an rpg, oblivion has no niche other than funny npcs.

Here's what should have been done (for a Morrowind-in-Skyrim engine project, forget about Oblivion):
1. write a very elaborate script that unpacks Morrowind's shit and puts it into Skyrim's engine
And that's it. You're done for a version 1.0 release. It's absolutely a lot of work, 1000+ hours for sure, but nothing more should have been entertained for the first release.
Once you've got that, and people playing it, the next steps come naturally. People bringing back in Skyrim's weapons and armor sets as a stopgap. People going through and replacing Morrowind's old models one by one, at their own pace. Recording new voicelines. Basically making plugins or submods as they see fit. It'd basically be out of your hands at that point, and that's great.
Going straight for "recreate the entire thing all at once" is braindead stupid.

The best part of Oblivion was the world and whimsy.

The worst part of Oblivion was the dungeon design, level scaling, potato faces, and combat.
