They're still super yuppie compared to what you get if you drive like 30 minutes more away from it and you constantly see yuppie IPA beer factories, sandwich shops, florists, and basically anything you'd see in downtown just in buildings from the 1800s that haven't been kept up well.The instant you step into the suburbs of Chicago outside of those satellite suburbs your chance of being mugged or shot increases, and if you're white it increases further. You can legitimately go from a neighborhood that's super affluent into literal ghettos where no Hispanic, Asian, white, or Latino exists and it's just black people eyeing you the entire way through it in like five minutes. My sister once got stopped by a cop in the area asking why a white girl was in that neighborhood and if she was trying to get raped and robbed before he escorted her out of it.I have a relative who lives in those suburbs and not only has this relative been robbed like 15 years ago but the street has had at least four shootings they've either heard or personally seen someone running away from and gang murders happen frequently enough that cops are normal. Directly opposite of the house for like a decade there was also someone we were pretty sure was selling drugs since the classic shoes-on-electrical-wires was in front of that house, and then behind the house there's this one house that constantly kept changing its lightbulb and they never had blinds so you could clearly see the color of it which we were pretty sure indicated either drug deals going down.They also live close enough that my family would drive by the Gage Park murder house from time to time to go to the relative's house.https://abc7chicago.com/post/gage-park-chicago-massacre-murder-diego-uribe/12296850/
