The actual GOTY of 2023 and not Larpers Gate 3. Why did /v/ not play it?
>>737230118Because the first game was a 6/10 and this looked to be more of the same.
>>737230118>made by square enix >goty >over bg3 Delusional cope.
First game was painfully mediocre and heard mixed things about the second. Lots of improvements but the story and character interactions are still virtually non-existent which is crazy for a JRPG.
>>737230118100%d this and dropped bear sex 3 in act 2 cause the actual rpg part was fucking boringqedholy shit the captcha is terrible on this board I'm gonna go back to the one I came from
>>737230118I haven’t played it because 1 sucked ass but I did listen to the soundtrack which is insanely sovlful. Maybe later on when I have nothing to do. How does it differ from 1?
>>737230234characters unironically interact more than early FFs like 1-6 thoughbeit
>>737230118Because it looked like boring shit. BG3 too by the way.You have to be mentally stunted in one way or another to enjoy these type of games.
>>737230242A whole lof qol stuff, plays way better. Night and day looks cool and if you want to grind a bit, just skip to the night for stronger monsters. 1 was 4 chapter for each of the 8 characters and all of them were the same. Go into the town, start the chapter, cutscenes, use your skill in this city, cutscenes, dungeon, boss, cutscene, go to the next city. Do this 32 times. In 2 they changed it up for the most part. One character for example has a linear two chapter prison break chapter, another has 3 very short kill 3 bosses as chapter 2a, 2b, 2c, and the dancer has one chapter just talking a being nice. Plus 2 (iirc) times 4 pair chapters and a final story boss for the whole party. 1 had a boss like this, but it was an optional superboss hidden behind some sidequests, and the boss dungeon itself was an annoying bossrush.
>>737230242>>737230518Ohhh and the soundtrack for 2 is even better.
lol imagine playing a pixel art rpg in fucking 2023 unc kys
SEX WITH OCHETTE
BG3 is LITERALLY game of the decade, try again tendie.
>>737230694More like faggot of the decade.
Ugly HD-2D art style or whatever you homos call it.
>>737230118Idk about this game but the cover art looks cool
>>737230689Bot
It’s a good game but not better than bg3 you retard
>>737230118Do any of the three games have gay or trans representation? JRPGs never have. Or if they do include it, it’s made out to be a gag.
>>737230152It is.Reviewers said it finally had a more connected story, it does not. Having interactions like outside of the plot that close to>A: I like dancing>B:Dancing?>A:Yeah you should try it sometimes>B:...Dancing is like combat!>A:Tihihi well kinda>B:I see. I am now a dancer>A:It couldnt be helpedIts all in its own bubble and the level capped story progression per character kills pacing
>>737230689Ochette or H'aanit?
>>737230118>jarpigEww
>>737232775If 3 has 0 style connected story and then also has 2 style connected and fleshed out character stories it will become a perfect jrpg
>>737230234OT1 was carried entirely by people's fascination with 2D-HD.
>>737232834Haanit sexo
>>737230118Let it go unc.
>>737232432You’re a bot, bot.
>>737230118Your braindead DVD menu simulator is neither an RPG nor a strategy game. Keep on seething, weebtranny.
>>737230118BG3 was game of the decade material while I don’t even know about this weeb trash. Keep seething
>>737234524He cute
>>737234524I challenge a jrpg fan to respond to this without sounding mad. These games are for literal children.
>>737235863no western game has a good story
The mid game was painfully boring. Endless waves of random encounters that die on turn 1 while you run around the world doing new character intros and then three rounds each of low level content and cutscenes. After 30 hours of it I finally fell asleep while playing and took it as a sign to uninstall. I understand the appeal of doing character content in any order but it absolutely killed the pacing
I did and I loved it>>737230234It's more digestible if you look at it as an 8 mini-JRPGs in one package that all get connected to a finale. I personally enjoyed that, though I do get why the general lack of interparty interaction isn't ideal for many fans of the genre. It does improve on that aspect from 1 by quite a bit with the aforementioned finale and duo chapters but definitely not as much as your standard JRPG.
>>737230118I did thanks to /v, because everytime someone brings up it brings up all the contrarians.Actual Goty and Partitio is the best dude ever.
>>737230118You don’t do yourself any benefit by comparing a square enix jrpg to an actual game of the decade contender in BG3. It might be a good game (for jrpg folks who have bad taste) but it in no way is ever comparable to BG3.
Just finished Octopath 2 a few weeks past. Didn't have any expectations going in and I was pleasantly surprised by just about everything. Was surprised by how bleak the story and atmosphere of the game ended up being, not something I would've expected from a Square Enix "pixel" graphic game. The combat system is also surprisingly good, definitely one of the best TB JRPG combat systems out there when you aren't over leveled and have to interact more with the different utility abilities. I'll need to give Octopath 0 a try next.
Octopath 0 has some absolute banger stories and some total duds. The quality oscillates between peak cinema to retarded shit. But overall I liked the whole package, if it was made with better graphics like OT2 and offered more depth on the characters it would’ve been extremely good. OT2 is pretty strong all around.

>>737230118I did play it. I didn't 100% its achievements because I started a new save and accidentally overwrite my original save.
>>737230118I loved her disney princess-like story and her final boss fight/dance battle was hype as fuck
>>737230118No rpg is good dude, grow some balls
>>737230118I'm not really into turn-based games. I do think 2D turn-based games are actually fine, but I kept passing it on, because I think the price is too high.
>>737240374Why is she white
>>737243270thank you for posting my wifes picture. saved
>>737230118I played it
>>737244051They're all white except Hikari
>>737244429>ochette>white
>does not bother with love because he can't do a mathematical equation on it>is given the power of love anyway
>>737244429That’s not very woke of square enix
>>737244618Unc was married and has a daughter
>>737230118I quite enjoyed the sassy inquisitor storyline
>>737232775If Square can't have the characters interact with each other because it's too much work to account for all of the different variations in who may be in your party at any given time with the 8 choices for starting characters and the open ability to recruit characters in any order, then they should just drop the whole concept and make a more traditional RPG instead. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the "Octopath" gimmick continues to be the worst part of Octopath Traveler. Being able to pick which of the 8 characters you start with and then the open ability to wander around and recruit the remaining 7 characters in whatever order you want is an okay gimmick at best. But it comes at the MASSIVE cost of each character's story basically happening in a bubble of isolation. Just get rid of it. It's not worth it. When one of my characters is challenging a demonic warlord for the future of his country, it would be nice if the other 3 characters in my party had SOMETHING to say to acknowledge what is going on.
>>737245258>they should just drop the whole concept and make a more traditional RPG instead. The series name is that for a reason and some people want to make some challenge runs with select characters while ignoring others entirely.
>>737245373>some people want to make some challenge runs with select characters while ignoring others entirely.>some peopleYou're talking about the less than 1% of players who are into speedrunning and doing "challenge" runs where they skip characters. That's certainly not a demographic that needs to be appealed to.
based. this and Lies of P are tied for my 2023 GOTY. both mog Fagdurs Gayte 3
>>737230282But the stories of FFIV/V/VI are cool and feel like setpieces/16-bits cinemanime, while OT1/2 is like eating white bread for 80hrs.
>>737230234>First game was painfully mediocre and heard mixed things about the secondThe same could be said about every "original" game of this studio, desu. 4HoL, Bravely Default, Bravely Second, Bravely Default II, Octopath 1&2.
>>737230118I played it ang enjoyed it. I liked how the cast felt more connected than the first game and I liked the characters. the only part i didn't like was that the HP the bosses had were very low. They give you the Break Damage Limit skill very easily and it only takes one boosted attack to kill most of the final bosses.
>>737245979They took the complaints from the first game's "tedious" bosses and tried to fix that but went too far.
We need to all strive to defeat that devil called 'poverty'
>>737245969except that's really not true about OT2 at all, everyone loves it except contrarian faggots on /v/ who hate the artstyle by default
>>737245825OT2 has the anime kino you crave, you’d know if you had played it. And 0’s second half is basically this
>>737246143>Press X to doubtIf that's true, than this would be the first and only genuinely good game of the Asano Team
0 with the whole wishvale storyline is the strongest story they’ve done in years
>>737246356Triangle Strategy is kino story but has a lot of cutscenes and very little gameplay even though the gameplay is pretty good
>>737246393Wishvale was clumsily cobbled to give (You) an origin story.
>>737246356it's not the first genuinely good game they've made, it's the first genuinely great one they made. they've made a few good ones.
>>737245979>he only part i didn't like was that the HP the bosses had were very low.>Break Damage Limit skill very easily and it only takes one boosted attack to kill most of the final bosses. The combat balance in general is completely fucked up. In my opinion, the boss HP isn't too low, there are just too many ways to break the fights and 1 or 2 shot the bosses. I replayed the game recently and tried to avoid broken strategies and even tried to limit using Break Damage Limit. The boss fights are fucking miserable without that stuff. They take forever to kill and can easily wipe your whole party in a turn when they're dishing out 5 or 6 attacks per turn. It's not a good feeling when you realize that the best way to play the game is to simply "not play the game" by just 1 shotting the bosses so you don't have to deal with stupid bullshit in their long, tedious fights. It's not good balance.
>>737230118Why does MC look like Noah from Xenoblade 3?
>>737246603Because Asian with a ponytail is a common design choice
>>737246538>extra battles true vide the wicked was a 1-hour long nightmaregaldera does not remotely compare
>>737246449Triangle Strategy has a lot of gameplay I don't know what you retards mean by thisIt just doesn't burden you with meaningless grind encounters and makes you spend a lot of time in the real missions
>>737245258What if I'm simply unbothered by the fact the game is 8 seperate stories and a final chapter instead of 1 unnecessarily long one? What if that's actually appealing to me, sir?
>>737247528if it doesn't specifically cater to my VERY narrow and set-in-my-ways sensibilities it is COMPLETE AND UTTER DOGSHIT
>>737246487And yet it was more kino than any of the master and bestower storylines
>>737246487Bro the whole rebuilding storyline was extremely solid work. You don’t see that shit anywhere these days
>>737230118I was extremely burnt out by the time I finished the first game. It was just the same shit over and over again. Like, I get that's the case for JRPGs, but doing the "go through dungeon, fight boss" schtick 32 times with no real side content or anything to break up the tedium made it really difficult to get through.I didn't even bother trying to fight Galdera.
I finished Temenos story and it ended up half of the things unanswered and i didnt play it since.
>>737248217His is the outlier in that his actual story outright continues into the final chapter after you beat everyone else's + the crossed paths.
>>737248217retard.
>>737247528>>737247681You have your opinions and I have mine. I don't think wanting a connected, linear is "VERY narrow" by any means. It's a pretty standard thing because it works. But hey, 8 completely separated and isolated stories probably works very well for the ADHD tiktok generation of zoomers. By the time your attention span dips, you can switch over to a completely different character with a completely different story. I understand the appeal, it's just not for people who can follow a single story for 100 hours or so.
>>737232775truth nuke
>>737230118Octopath and larpers gate look fucking ugly as sin.Get me a game with neptunia tier girls then ill play. Until then fuck off, you 40 year old waste of space.
>finish all eight stories>wondering how the finale will tie them all together>it's done through textdumps found throughout the last areas explaining how X character was connected to Y.Nice game octokeks.
>>737248364The majority of JRPG stories are incredibly simple and struggle to justify their own duration, just because I have a normal human attention span doesn't mean I want to dedicate it to unnecessarily padded slop
>>737248640That's OT1.OT2 puts some more effort with an actual final chapter with an actual final boss that isn't locked to a sidequest.
>>737248364more like some people like variety. i've played more jrpg's than i can count and obviously most of them have normal structures. OT is a nice change of pace from that
>>737248748No that was OT2.You literally go through the torch areas picking up scraps from Ori's journal detailing how everything was connected. The only proactive moment was confronting Arcanette which acted more as an actual conclusion to Temmenos's story.
>>737230118Apples and oranges.
>>737230118I can't even remember what games came out in 2023 aside from this and Baldur's Gate 3. That said, I still didn't really care for this. I'm glad they at least tried to add interactions between the party this time instead of just having basically fucking nothing, but they were still barebones and infrequent. Even the worst Tales game is still better at having party mingling than this. I just feel like Octopath will never jive with me conceptually because they're far too married to the ideas it has that I simply do not like.
>>737249204
>>737230118Holy trvke nvke. OT2 goty 2023 and OT0 goty 2025/6 (whichever one counts idk, it came out in dec 2025)
>>737249459>OT0 goty 2025kek, lets not get carried away now
>>737249393I still need to play this actually. Seems cute.
>>737249579Okay fine e33 was also kino
>>737249679it's very kino anon you definitely should
>>737249779>>737249679People said this about OT1 and it was GARBAGE. Do not believe a single word out of these JRPG shillers. They are seething ever since they got BTFO by a French company showing them how it’s done.
>>737249925false flagging faggot i love E33 way more than you do because i actually love the JRPG genre. i will skin you alive if i ever come across you.
>>737249972E33 mogged your entire genre lmfao keep seething dumbfuck
>>737250405i'm literally the one who spams picrel and Broche pics and tells people they lost and got raped in every E33 thread and you dare tell ME that? fucking kill yourself tranny
>>737249393I have a very specific, autistic issue with this game and can't play it because of it. The background audio is automatically lowered whenever a voice clip plays, you can't turn it off, and setting the voice volume to 0 doesn't stop the audio from lowering. It drives me insane.
>>737251079that's a shame, i didn't even notice that desu
