Why don't gamers use Linux for gaming?
>>
>>737239461
Lack of software compatibility

what the fuck is going on with that facial hair. is he in the process of trooning out mid-video?

Because games were not made on Linux.
>>
>>737239461
I've tried multiple times and been filtered.
If there's software you want to use that needs a compatability layer it's basically a whole afternoon of troubleshooting for me. I'm a compsci brainlet.

Maybe it's not that good...

this is the reason why nobody wants to fuck with linux. because nothing is native compatible with it.

Any time i hear some sperg lord ramble on about how I need to get linux, all I hear is somebody suggesting that I buy all my appliances with UK plugs, and then attach international adapters to all of them.
>>
I do
I also wrote my own script that allows me to seemlessly transition between my two monitors and my big 4k tv and back with a simple hotkey, so I can play on the couch next to my wife more easily. Linux is based.
>>
>>737239461
Because despite years of people trying to convince you that Linux is so much better than Windows the reality is that's it's mostly a janky mess that you will spend more time fiddling with trying to get shit to work than you do actually doing anything productive.
>>
>>737239461
games are consumer software made with the windows ecosystem in mind. it's basically the worst usecase for linux.
>>
I tried two seperate times with different distros and both times I was no longer able to connect to my home WIFI. To this day I found no certain solution and instead faggots telling people to do random bullshit that accomplishes nothing finished with "oh well try buying different hardware get fucked cuck"
>>

Idk it kind of just werks for me, and I'm retarded

IQ filter.
Plenty of people play games on it, but sometimes actually using it requires a level of brain power that a lot of people just don't have.
Granted, it's been scaled down a fair bit from what it used to be, where only genuine comp-sci grads could get shit working right, and now tends to be a fair bit more accessible to people around the close right of the bell curve.
It's like the difference between owning a basic bitch mazda 3 that you bring in for service once a year and treat like shit, and a high performance project car that you have to actively maintain and understand with a manual transmission.
Retards and old people probably shouldn't be behind the wheel of a well tuned powerhouse, while people who know their shit don't want to be behind a bog standard commuter that has no real "pull" to it.

Because Linux is primarily a platform for tech trannies, code hipsters and sad old men.

The sad old men are the last bastion of defence in keeping it even working, when they die the troons will get what they want and put LE HECKIN CUTE ANIME!!! on the kernel and their PR reason will be "ITS FUNNE!" and slowly destroy linux with incompetence like they do any other open source platform.
>>
>>737239461
because a lot of people tried it in the past when it didn't work very well, and most people don't even know how to install an OS, Windows or Linux, or swap out hardware, like a GPU.

Do you think did he ever get to fuck picrel while she worked for him?
>>
>>737239461
Because,
get ready for this...
Linux is a huge community of people, that have their head so far up their ass, about ONE problem, that they believe an entirely new DISTRO has to be made to solve that problem.
Because of that, there's billions of Linux distros that nobody really knows which one is best to use, and none of them can run all of the games that they want.
If that's not enough, the Linux communities, plural as in many, are actually a bunch of helpful folks, but they all seem to have their own idea on how to solve problems, most of them don't work.
After all of this, Windows is a huge shining guiding beacon out of the darkness for most people.

I tried updating my build on my laptop last week. The internet cut out while I was updating. Now my computer is totally fubared. I have the wrong version of gcc for my kernel or something. I can't go back and download the old versions because I ran out of disk space and I can't remove programs to add more disk space because the uninstallers use gcc. My only solution is to transfer over all my files and reinstall. I never had these issues with windows.
>>
>>737239461
Because most people don't know what an OS is.
A lot of people don't even know what folders are anymore thanks to apple.
Half of the kids can't use a keyboard, mouse or controllers, only touchscreen.
If you even know what linux is, you're in the 1% of the technical wizards of this world.
>>
>>737239461
the only thing keeping me from going full linux is that my wife and I share the desktop, and she would be annoyed if I switched from winbotnet.
>>
>>737239657
i do all sort of things on my pc other than gaming, and the only software i cant use(and for which i keep an older Win pc around) is Photoshop.
Everything else either has a native linux version, or the compatibility layer is automatically set up when you install it.
So what software are you talking about?

if she's too retarded for that, change wife

Gaming on Linux is easy. Just install steam. Any game that works on the deck will also work on your PC. The only game I remember having issues was one of the Batman Arkham games, and I just had to switch proton versions within steam.

I had to fiddle just as much on Windows as I do Linux to get things working right. Like some Capcom games hate certain versions of Windows (like ltsc 2h4h). What's really amazing is that proton works better with old ass dos games and early 90s games than they do on modern windows.

Do you PC players really just buy a premade build and never tweaked your OS (even Windows) and leave everything on default? Maybe some of you retards deserved to be shafted.

No, I'm not going to share my specs or distro because I don't want more retards invading the community. Stay on Windows retards.

Dogshit software compatibility and every distro is a few developers away from being abandonware. Linux is just trash designed to waste a users time, sure it’s good for servers but for desktop use windows, osx, or even BSD are all simply better choices. I, as a user, should NEVER have to interact with the terminal to accomplish something, I don’t care if it’s faster once I’ve memorized all of the commands, I just want it to be simple and easy. Not to mention the fact that simply updating software or updating to the latest kernel or distro version can fuck your entire install. I’ve never had that issue on windows, it just works…which is the entire point of an OS…cue the linux users saying “works on my machine :)”. Also visual studio is the best IDE ever made…Linux is has so much hacked together software that can’t compare/compete with what’s available on windows…I like turning my computer on and getting things done, linux gets in the way of that

nta but some time ago I tried getting rpgm exes to work through wine and wine would simply not install. I tried both the terminal with googled commands and through Mint's innate manager and in both cases I got an error that led me to hours of googling the potentially numerous cases behind said error. Gave up on it altogether.

it's like the dvorak keyboard that's supposedly 50% more efficient and ergonomic than qwerty since qwerty was primarily for typewriter ease of use, but no one gives a shit because they're already used to qwerty and don't want to relearn a new keyboard layout

this is pretty much it, for general purpose shit it's fine, but the lack of compatibility with productive applications kills it. the person who just wants to browse social media on chrome isn't going to give a fuck about installing linux, and the type of person who needs a specific application for their workflow isn't going to switch if it's not all linux compatible.
it only got a boost recently because of steam wanting to make games compatible with linux so they can sell steam boxes without being under apple or microslop's boot..

This is the one people should actually be doing since Amazon has standardized built-in advertising on every smart TV made in the last 5 years and the next 50 years.

would it? from what i understand, windows downloads updates into local storage before installing them.

That thing reminds me of my old VW Golf from the 80's I drove in the 00's. That car was a slow piece of shit and had all kinds of retarted issues with the thousands of vacuum lines and the fuel system, but it refused to die on me. I drove that car for almost 10 years with bolts RTVed in loose/broken vacuum lines to plug vacuum leaks and shit. I wish German cars were still made like that, even if they always sucked to work on.

Most people dont know what an OS is or that theres something other than Windows, its going to be hard covince retards like that because they are like console fags, everything has to work out of the box with as little fiddling as possible to be able to do whatever retarded shit they like to do on a computer and thats the only thing that matters to them.

electric cars are literally turning into PC with wheels and have minimal physical maintenance compared to ICE cars.
which means that maintaining a community car OS might become feasible, the only real problem are the crazy regulations that even actual car brands can barely keep up with.

I don't want a TV to have a tuner. I want a TV to have a big screen I can watch from a couch. whatever I plug it in is my business, the TV doesn't need any software in it besides a basic driver.
but consumer dumb TVs basically don't exist anymore, even for case uses where nobody would use the smart features (waiting room or similar), you WILLhave them and pay extra.

Actually you play less. They sell them at a loss because they make so much money collecting your data and advertising to you. Non-smart TVs couldn't compete and disappeared from the market.

This only applies to gaming. I installed mint on my laptop 2 weeks ago and didnt do anything other than download the software and toolbar add ons i wanted. With Steam OS /proton and Bazzite etc linux WILL get to the point now where basically every game will be as simple as double clicking an icon like windows and with identical performance. A lot of them are already but soon there will be no reason to be using windows at all.

Because most people have zero reason they care about to swap. Windows just works for them, and it's important to remember that to a lot of people mentioning stuff like privacy, open source principles or anything else like that immediately makes them view you as a schizo, autist, pedo or a mix of them.

>Windows and Mac pays to have marketing until they are recognized as default computer operating systems in most media

Simple as. People do not want things until the media tells them that they want it. Pre-existing desires may exist (porn) and may be capitalized on (more porn), but for the most part the process of normalfag adoption will always start with a company having a lot of product that they can make cheaply and fuckall demand, and until then it's just a specialist item that is overpriced in limited runs.

Gaming on linux is like driving a car that is duct-taped together,
it is squeaking, and you can hear the engine clicking,
almost as if it is desperately trying to keep it together, struggling to drive.

it doesn't feel right and it never will,
this is why 100% of the games that come out target Windows.

all developers want their games to be run on Windows.
not some hacky concoction...
