can we have a Rain World thread
no
>>737240183why
>>737240283
maybe once a year I try playing this game because I know people consider it to be really good but I just wander around aimlessly and nothing happens until I get eaten by somethingI'm sure there's something to it if I push through but I don't enjoy it enough to push through
>>737240331the scale is incredible
>>737240341fuck off tranny
>>737240341I believe wandering around is the way to enjoy the game. The main objective in the first half of the game is finding the actual main objective, then in second half following it. If you don't like wandering around and don't enjoy simple exploration then it's over.I can bring up analogy to people in real life who went sailing into unknown because they could but it sounds a bit corny
>>737240429>anon makes an effort post that is not delusional about him trying to learn to taste something he doesn't like>calls him a trannyKill yourself ASAP
>>737240429But trannies love this game.
>>737240575If you don't "get" rain world you're probably an indian-tranny super hybrid. this game has been thrashed by deitards for so long that i don't have any patience for people dogwhistling by pulling the "its just not fun" card.
>>737240675anon... RW 'community' is the gayest shit imaginable. At least the game is hard enough to filter some of them but I bet the most vocal of them haven't played the actual game
has anyone tried the rain world dev's new game airframe ultra? it's good but im not into multiplayer racing/death matches personally, kind of wish theyd focused on another single player experience. i really like the world design, its what i imagine a 3d rainworld would be like
>>737241007there's been a few closed beta tests only accessible through pedocord so I'm waiting for full release. It looks multiplayer focused, I wonder if there will be a story mode or freeplay
>>737240283unironically my favorite downpour part
sex with monk
>>737241186for me it's Saint campaign
>>737241170> I wonder if there will be a story mode or freeplayi doubt it unfortunately
>>737240341That really is kind of what you have to do.Some people click with it immediately but rain world at it's core is about the little interactions that add joy to the exploration. So some people just need that initial "oh okay I get it now" moment before you get hooked.>>737241007I have mixed feelings. It's buy Joar who's behind all the art and style and feel of the original rain world, but having it be so focused on chaotic multiplayer makes it hard to take in. I had a bunch of fun kicking people off bridges going at 200mph but I feel like I already got my fill of it. I hope the single player component has a lot more meat to it.
>>737240341its a shit game, your experience is absolutely normal
>>737241007Just looked it upLooks like fucking total ass. Why are they wasting their time with garbage like this instead of making Rain World 2?
thoughts on Watcher? All interesting regions are underdeveloped
>>737240575>implying it's not just the same fake story that retard false flag anons always tell>"UGH! THIS game! I try to play it every now and again but then don't. Not because I'm shit at video games, UGH, I just don't care enough to try! UGH!!"Also, this is 4chan, if a response seems a little caustic maybe you're on the wrong website.
I see the vision for Rain World and I find it very endearing that there is a game that’s all about exploring and experiencing and figuring things out for yourself but if you asked me to play it I would laugh in your face and move on with my day
Rain World is an immersive sim.
>>737241596for another example of this behavior, see >>737241609 for another post with zero value.
>>737240341>I'm sure there's something to it if I push through but I don't enjoy it enough to push throughthere is.
>>737241591I played this on release where they didn't even mark the location of portals and it was downright awful. Finding the sky whale things was pretty cool though, I recall getting up to the top and staring at the background and thinking "Something HAS to be here" and seeing one appear right as I gave up on waiting for anything to happen
Which campaign is your favorite? Survivor is the one I keep coming back to. I just like being a basic slugcat.>>737241464I feel the same way. I'm interested, but I've never been one to play online multiplayer games for long.
>>737241775Devs added them in some update later. Doesn't help much, the level design in some of these regions is terrible. See pic rel, there's shitton of 1 way paths so it's extremely linear. Half of DLC is like that
>>737241596Those posts give me the same kind of vibe as the "why does white man climb mountain" ones
>>737241591made me realize how much the transitional parts of each region are.>near the gate to a new region>environment gradually (or sharply) changes to the new area's aesthetic/theme>enter the gate, trepidation mounting>cautiously wander in>new music track plays as you try to find the next shelter to safely explore fromall missing when you just teleport into the middle of the region without any context around italso bitter aerie sucked ass as a modded region and it sucks ass here split into 4.but i appreciate that it builds new ideas instead of just fixating on the gay iterator shit that was barely in the base game.
>>737241997Hunter is the best
>>737242005Yeah that was one of my biggest issues with it too. I'm hesitant to progress on a path when I know that if I go through it I'm going to have to loop around an like three entire fucking dimensions just to get back. Cold Storage in particular was bad about this and feels downright impossible to traverse without the float.
>>737241591I wish they would stop updating it so we can go back to playing vanilla with modded regions in peace.Overpowered ability renders the entire campaign mindnumbing, the cool modded regions they used to build it got ruined by being chopped up into tiny pieces ruining all sense of flow. And the new lore is so in your face ooooooooOOOooooOOOo myserious metaphysical stuff, which was mostly confined to small moments and the ending in the original for a good reason just really ruins the grounded "world" feel of the rain world experience.I don't downright hate it, but the enjoyment I get out of it is the same I get from playing rain world in general. Downpour atleast was able to lean on the construction of the original but the watcher is just so ramshackle, rushed and unpolished. It has some good vibes here and there, and I like that the games toolkit is basically out of the blackbox so we get actual new creatures (albiet very few) and visually the game just does things it couldnt before. But I have to ask myself if it was worth it. They put more effort into selling fucking merch than the actual game now. And the constant hotfixes do nothing for anythone except fuck up our modlists. The worst part is I love the concept of "what if rain world but LSD dream simulator just fucking end up in random wacky places spirital dream nonsense". But slapping a few modded regions together and not even polishing them up properly really just isn't how you do that at all. They needed to build proper mini regions instead of splitting up Aether Ridge into 6 fucking pieces that are still too big for the concept.>>737242005Cold Storage wasn't even finished in the original mod it's from and it's barely changed. They also nerfed most of the challenging platforming even though the watcher can fly later in the DLC. They also ripped out al the paths that actually let you leave the fucking place when you just want out.
>>737242053>made me realize how much the transitional parts of each region are.*how important the transitional parts are
>>737241589They basically are making Rain World 2. They said they're moving away from the DLC expansion model and onto standalone stuff. And that we'll get information "soon"They said the original story is finished with Watcher, so what they do from here is anyone's guess.
>>737242053nailed it.>bitter aerie sucked assyou mean Aether Ridge? It was meant for hardcore players who know advanced movement and the layout of it made sense when it wasn't cracked into pieces like in dlc. I like the palette of it but visually the design of rooms is terrible. It's a shame both dlcs are made by modders, original game's rooms were all made by 1 dude and I loved his style. Thats why I don't play modded regions, they all are very different to what I like in RWs design
>>737242294>you mean Aether Ridge?i do, yes. couldn't remember the original name, i only played it when it first came out. it was ass because the whole fucking thing was covered in tiny micro steps and awkward geometry that made just walking through the damn thing a chore. wasn't a fan of its gimmicks either.>It's a shame both dlcs are made by modders, original game's rooms were all made by 1 dude and I loved his style. Thats why I don't play modded regions, they all are very different to what I like in RWs designsome of my favorite regions are modded, but yes, i agree. the base game regions have consistent idiosyncracies to them, and all have pretty disitinct landmarks and variations within each region. a fair few modded regions boil down to just variations on one theme, without really exploring it. aether ridge being one particularly awful example of this. but thankfully they aren't all like that. the other modded regions that made it into the watcher are better examples, though still a bit annoying to traverse themselves.
>>737241007idk if its fun or not but the visuals are so ugly, which is weird considering rain world is one of the most beautiful games ever made. the low poly models with low res textures look like shit in an hd resolution. they need to drastically reduce the resolution it runs in to give it that crunchy ps1 look.
>>737242553>some of my favorite regions are moddedany recommendations?
>>737242053I do think there is something kind of cool about suddenly appearing in a new region and having to get your bearings, but it's just so awful for navigating the world map as a whole. You can't possibly know where regions are in relation to each other because it doesn't make sense by design. Even after playing through Watcher I could not tell you how to reach any given region, but after playing Survivor once I could easily reach any region by picking the rough direction I knew it was in and walking.
>>737242239Honestly feels really snobbish. Both DLC's were basically a collection of fan works, the main dev is working on his new multiplayer combat racer. So what we just got a bunch of modders making their own rain world with blackjack and hookers? Can they atleast finish porting their own mods to the main game or are we just never getting Aether Ridge 2.0 now because it got ruined by the watcher?>>737242294Aether Ridge kind of suffers from being the first work of its scale. But I still think the way the modder managed to weave all the subregions together and subtly direct you through a path that terminates at the bottom leading you towards a karma gate is very impressive and has a good understanding of region flow. (Which is why it sucks so much ass in the DLC)I think there are plenty of good ones though, Scorched District and Oceanic Aquaduct probably being my favourites. Undersea while rough around the edges also really captures that sense of exploration from early rain world for me.
>>737242617badlands and the root were my favorites, but they're pretty ancient by RW region standards.
>>737242756>So what we just got a bunch of modders making their own rain world with blackjack and hookers?Pretty much been the case since Downpour. One of the original devs oversees it but judging by what happened with Watcher these guys have full freedom to fuck things up
>>737242553I do love the expansions even with their flaws, but my main issue with them in general is that they have areas that are so overly decorated with foliage and backgrounds that look like platforms that make it hard to tell what exactly is traversable at a glance. You have a problem if I feel the need to open a map just to be able to tell what I can jump onto.
>>737241591Probably could have been a lot better if the publisher didn't push for it to release as early as it did, half of the DLC was missing at launchIt's been 1+ year since release and they were STILL recently fixing basic stuff like a softlock in the true ending or portals not showing up on the map when hibernating
>>737243213>half of the DLC was missing at launchwait what? what did they add since? i only played it at launch, and have only really been side-eyeing the patches it got.
>>7372433092 more endings and 2-3 more tiny regions. Some more rooms in already existing ones too
>>737242853Downpour was atleast still a mod of the main game and constrained by it. Any complaints with the lore aside I really enjoyed additions like Metropolis and I found Gourmand and Artificer to atleast be fun modifiers to the base gameplay. Both inferior to hunter but still a fun romp. Watcher tries to do it's own thing but was just completely rushed and sloppy and built out of the scraps of other mods from the base up.How the fuck are they going to build something new from the base up? They took a bunch of complete works for the watcher and still somehow managed to make every part come out unfinished. It's almost impressive. As far as building a single region (as in full regions not the shitty mini ones in the watcher) goes I won't fault them. I think the full version of stormy coast and coral caves are cool. But their ability to coordiante and put together a full product is beyond abhorrent.>>737243309The DLC didnt even have the main ending or any of it's lore pearls on release. It was also missing whole creatures and some of the best regions namely pillar grove Even with all the content in it still feels unfinished though.
>>737243309With the 1.5 patch they added 2 endings (including the true ending), several regions, new creatures (that don't spawn in if you use an old save, just for your awareness), some new mechanics and a new NPC tied to the new endings, also they did a pass on visualsMore recently, they did another pass on visuals and added a new mechanic related to void worms iirc, also support for safari mode
>still haven't played the new dlcI loved my time with the base game and downpour so much though, I even watched someone stream it all
>>737243423>>737243427>>737243485god damnit. guess i've gotta play it again, huh. well cheers guys.
>>737243620Despite my misgivings with it I do hope you have fun.Rain World is still a fun game at the end of the day. Wish they nerfed the watcher invisibility so you actually have to play it, lmao.
>>737243427>spoilerThat one is one of my most hated regions. Absolute retardation, there was a good reason why the game moved from it's original design it had in Alpha versions. Dogshit layout, terrible music, overpopulated with creatures like any other Watcher region, terrible rooms. I'm glad it doesn't have anything important in it
>>737243485>void wormsSorry, I meant the purple void spawnMany regions now have a few of these purple spiralling structures that give you the ability to see the void spawns for like 2 mins
>>737243793Honestly with how devoid most of the watcher regions are of any layout or ecosystem at all. The more lively ones like Fetid Glen and Pillar Grove stand out to me because atleast we get to see lizards trying to hunt stuff like they should.
>>737242617>>737242849 (me)also something i just remembered: drought. it's downpour before downpour. i remember enjoying it a lot, just suffers a bit from the "exterior fatigue" resulting from every other custom region at the time having a section climbing a the leg-like structure.
>>737244204now I can agree with Glen. That's a fun region, a bit too much screen effects but at least some of them can be disabled in remix options
>>737244234I loved drought, they remade it recently and I had a play through it though it felt a lot less difficult than the original. Triple Jump was overpowered but dosen't protect you from shit like this. (I survived by waiting for the rain timer and racing the flood to the next shelter)>>737244307I hope the full version of Fetid Glen isn't abandoned, I really wanted to see what Kaeporo had intended with it as a full region when it was being made for downpour. It's so unreasonably dank, I love it.
>>737244234noted. Thanks for all these anon.> "exterior fatigue"thats funny, exterior is one of my favourite areas. Climbing Moon's walls and legs in Downpour was kino, the underhang section is even better than one in 5P
>>737244470>exterior is one of my favourite areas.it's the coolest, but yeah, everybody felt the same way and tried to emulate that. i got a little tired of it even before downpour, so those parts weren't as exciting to me as they could have been.
>>737244467I heard Glen was supposed to have a subregion to it called Glass Fields, there's a track named after them too playing in this region.
If I could do anything I think I would shrink myself to the size of a slugcat. I’d leave the world of men behind me forever, and live amongst the slugcats. And I would bring technology and art to those uncultured swine, and I would build tiny tools for their slugcat hands made from toothpicks and marshmallows. And I would be their King... nay... their Prince! Gilderoy the Slugcat Prince! Ruling from my grand castle inches high, carved from the finest popcorn plant. And there I would dwell with my three slugcat wives, and my twelve slugcat concubines. Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho! Oh, but the wars we’d have with the scavengers... terrible. Just terrible. Those metal slugcat warriors, the atrocities they’ve seen. Yes, that is my dream…
>>737246763How big are they even supposed to be? The train cars in the subterranean imply you aren't THAT small, but the ancients you see at the end of the Watcher and the top as well as the fact that one of the echoes calls you "some kind of rodent" implies you are very small.
Started a new playthrough recently.Did Unfortunate Development first try, it was pretty cool.I'll probably get both DLCs since they're on sale.
>>737246913I assumed around 3ft tall standing upright
I still haven't bothered really getting into either DLC. Should probably do that soon. It's one of those games that's more fun in retrospect. Incredible world and lore, kind of a drag to die over and over trying to get through one gate.
>>737247129That's about what I assumed too, and the train cars support that. Maybe the ending sequence stuff in the watcher just makes you smaller than normal because of some reality bending bullshit
>>737247271I think the idea is you're meant to be small because it's A location constructed from the memories of a child that skews the world into looking unrealistically large Him being tiny and playing with the giant toys at the end is supposed to be about reclaiming ones lost innocence or something. Why did he do it.
>>737246913>>737247271the reveal in watcher is retarded and something devs intentionally went away from when making original game:>I second everything James wrote above, but I'll try to give my angle. Yep, we have thought about more recognizable architecture, but we gravitated away from it. For a few reasons, the main one definitely being that one James mentioned. If you can recognize too much in the environment ("That there's a fire post", "that there is a roof drain pipe") the environment wouldn't feel alien anymore. As the creature you play is supposed to not really grasp what's going on in the world around it, the player should be in on that impression. We are going for a thing that's more abstract or expressionistic - what's displayed on the screen is supposed to serve an emotional narrative, and that emotional tone has "not quite understanding what's going on" as a very important center piece.>Another is that recognizable objects cement the scale too much. Experiments with assets such as a door frame and similar has had the outcome that the viewer apply human scale to them by default - and then the slugcat and everything else is given a very distinct relative size which is something we're not really comfortable with. How big is a slugcat compared to a human? Waist-height, knee-height, almost as tall? We definitely prefer never to answer that question and not have the player think about it either. Slugcats, vultures and the other creatures exist in Rain World, and its their sizes compared to each other that are relevant.
>>737240341there isn't, it's literally just wandering around the gamealso screen traps where you get eaten immediately upon entry because the world isn't frozen while you're crawling outit has a very vocal but small crowd
>>737247896>The scale issue is actually not that big of an issue to me personally. Might look a bit too small at times, but this is a weird cartoon universe where things aren't really that pinned down. I honestly couldn't tell you how tall a slugcat would be next to a human, which is kind of the point, because it never is next to a human - it lives in its own realm. The weird scale of the water reminds you of that a bit, which I'm not entirely opposed to. Then again, I'd prefer it being ambiguous to it being visually well-defined that the slugcat is small as a raindrop, because if you forced an answer I'd probably have to say that it's closer to an earth-mammal in size than a droplet of water
There's a lot of interesting thoughts on the game in devblog, must read for all RW fans>I have been thinking about what sort of narrative I could insert into Rain World, without breaking the things I do like about it. A while ago I had a conversation with James, and he gave one specific type of narrative a name: "Silver lizard stole your girlfriend"-narrative. Rain World should NOT have a "Silver lizard stole your girlfriend"-narrative. Everything about it is wrong. I think what bugs me the most is the anthropomorphization of the bear creatures. Waaaay to many human qualities implied. Girlfriends. Individual villains. Revenge motifs. The bear creatures actually have very few human qualities. They obviously utilize simple tools, but they don't seem to be able to manufacture them, and there's no indication that they have a language. This one is old, back then slugcats were still called bear creatures
>>737248352>Individual villains. Revenge motifs.*cough* artificer *cough*
you read through the vlog and and these takes are just calling out much weaker expansions made by hack moders >It's always been my intention that the story of rain world is that of the character, rather than that of the world, and that it is produced by the game engine rather than through writing
>>737246763lel
>>737248352Now that's funny
*chucks spear*
>>737248468and yet artificer is the most fun campaign, curious!
>>737256752Imagine how fucked a 3d sequel would be
>>737244234I hated drought, but it did do ONE good thing that I loved. When you hibernated, it showed a sort or cryptic "forecast" of the rain cycle, and it would rain intermittently for 1-2 pips out of the cycle. So, it forced you to find a hiding spot until it passed. I thought that was cool as hell, really added some variety and made the rain feel dangerous again. Unfortunately no weather mod tries to copy that, it's either constantly drizzling or it's nothing. I want a standalone mod of just that feature, fuck drought itself.
>>737246913>one of the echoes calls you "some kind of rodent"To be fair, we have no idea what the echoes were when they were alive. They took on this ghostly octopus form, but they could've been bigger than normal people (or whatever the ancients were) when they were alive.
>>737258294It'd never be able to look as good as it does in 2D.
Rain World was really something special before the devs shit the bed integrating fan mods as official content and making femboy art of Pebbles. Most of the additions to Rain World have only worsened it. Loading screen tutorial tips. Were they fucking kidding?
>>737257467Uhhh that would be Gourmand, actually
>>737259395What is it about Rain World that attracts trannies so?
>>737257467>>737259654>he doesn't like racing through Rivulet's campaign like he just hardlined monster energy
>>737257467it's fun to fight scavs but the campaign is terrible.
>>737259808the game attracts autistic people, and autism overlaps with trannies
>>737259812When I played Rivulet, I had a terrible, terrible time in the Rot. I followed the overseer's guidance, but somehow, I just kept going past the thing. It is really unfortunate how taking the cell fixes the rain timer, though. Now you're once again experiencing regular rain, except you're not just the Rivulet, but the Rivulet with the macguffin cell. Submerged was nice and different, but as with all Downpour regions, it was way too large and overstayed its welcome
>>737260120I agree about the cell, it shouldn't have changed the timer. The whole fun of early campaign is racing between shelters and trying to scrounge up food in your 5 minute cycles. I enjoyed carting the cell around though, the extra movement from it is fun
SUFFERING BUILDS CHARACTERSUFFERING BUILDS CHARACTERSUFFERING BUILDS CHARACTER
>>737260120Submerged is experienced best with default slugcats. Rivulet is too OP even in regions designed for it
>>737259808The slugcats. That's it. No other part of this game attracts faggots other than the most surface-level aspect of it all. Whether they come to enjoy the actual game itself depends on how much they are willing to put up with it otherwise.

>>737260434Don't forget iterator puppets.
>>737259895Something like that, yes. I'd say it's because of how unorthodox the game is, which pushes the masses away and leaves space for a different kind of community to grow>>737260434AND the iterators as well, rather
anything after survivor and hunter is fanfiction cancer and not worth of being played sexy slugcats thou
>>737260357Why are you posting Rivulet while talking about Spearmaster? Somehow carrying a pearl with no mouth is the single most painful experience in the game.
>>737260496>>737259812>>737259654>>737257467>lays an egg in your shelter
>>737260790I didn't have a spear master pic and I was referring to the general theme of rainworld It's Buddhist ludokinoDo you wonder if a Buddhist monk ever played rainworld?
>>737260790>uhhhhh yeah let's give this character the ability to hold two spears. That's a cool and special ability, right?>have one hand occupied for half the gameI have no mouth and I must carry
>>737260998The funny part about holding two spears is that in most cases it's still much more useful to hold a rock in your other hand to flip lizards
>>737260883>eats the egg
Downpour expanded on the timelineWatcher expanded on the world space
>>737260998It would be interesting way to make 2nd half of the Spearmaster's story harder but the problem is if you already visited important areas you can passage back with key items option enabled. And the whole ecosystem is at its worst making it one of the hardest campaigns. There's a lot of questionable game design in Downpour and Watcher
>>737261307canonizing modded sloppa is not 'expanding timeline and world space'
>>737261090When I first got to SM's campaign I thought that holding two spears would have been more impactful than it really was lmao. Nowadays, I think Hunter's backspear is way more meaningful than SM's dual spears bullshit ever was and its sad. Still don't know who on the DP dev team thought that making the character with no mouth haul a fucking pearl around the map was a good or fun idea.
>>737261470Yeah, it only matters for big bugs and Vultures, the latter of which are impractical to fight in many circumstances especially since it's trivial to fill Spearmaster's food bar by taking pot shots at whatever passes by. Can't Hunter hold two spears with some roll shenanigans anyways?
>>737261659>Can't Hunter hold two spears with some roll shenanigans anyways?I thought they patched that out? Is it still in the game?
>>737261450Watcher I think handled the lore betterDownpour felt needlessOkay cool gourmand confirming slugcat sapience for the people who still will say they’re animals anywaysOkay cool the spearmaster Because sure why not overspecializeArtificer campaign I feel misunderstood the concept of karma in rainworld but whatever Saint was strange.I think downpour had slugcats going to five pebbles as a thing they do for every campaign added to the repetition
>>737261470Spearmaster was the first character I played so I went in with no knowledge that Five Pebbles is the key to literally all the fucking campaigns. I expected this whole timeline deal to affect the vanilla regions much more extensively, so I was pleased when I managed to get lost in the new Garbage/Citadel transition area, then visited Waterfront and Moon. Then I went for the Rivulet campaign, which should be on the opposite end of the timeline, and the regions were mostly vanilla...
>>737261796Not sure, I only really played Hunter the one time outside of expedition, so maybe they killed it.
>>737261849Timeline changes were lacking but honestly, how can anyone make a future and past version of, for example, Farm Arrays? It made sense with Garbage Wastes and Waterfront being close to Moon and collapsing but I can't think of anything that would work in other regions.
>>737261813Saint is le triple affirmative or whatever. It's a great shame that it's the campaign with the most vanilla region changes too, which is closer to what I hoped for most if not all the campaigns.
Saint at least had snow to spice things up
>>737262131Are slugcats good for you?
>>737262136I hate this region so much, it has the most samey screens in the entire game. I never know where the fuck I am here.
>>737262136Honestly the best part about saints campaign is the new music beats. Like you get the moments seeing the collapse in chimney and all that but the fucking music in future shoreline just hits so hard.
>>737262289The Wall or Silent Construct? Construct is made out of 3 other regions you probably visited through all other campaigns up to this point, making it final test of navigation. I loved it
>>737262056I don't disagree, but that just means a lack of imagination. If the Farm Arrays were used for farming, then since the ancients are gone, the crops could be responsible for layout/visual changes, for example. Really, we can come up with anything. Make some pipes available for some characters but not others, like certain shelters already area.>>737262289Silent Construct? Modders and their fuckhuge regions strike again
>>737262441already are*
>>737262408are you talking about this one?:https://youtu.be/MZSbCXilXR0one thing Downpour didn't miss was the soundtrack, 95% of it is just as good as original game's
>>737262415Silent Construct has like 10 rooms that are just big walls of rubble.
How did you react to this? I was spoiled :(
>>737261813>Saint was strange.storywise sure, but it was so cool to see the passage of time through each area
Man what even is the lore these days? I fell off before Downpour happened.
>>737262594(this is the game warning you not to go there because Silent Construct is dogshit)
>>737262594>one thing Downpour didn't miss was the soundtrack, 95% of it is just as good as original game'sI know people tend to shit on DP here and I get why, but man the OST for that expansion was fucking solid if I were to put that aside from the rest of it.>>737262594When I got there I was shocked, dumbstruck, and bewildered. The game did not prepare me to think about going somewhere other than 5p for once lmao
>>737262770top bit meant for >>737262528
>>737262441>I don't disagree, but that just means a lack of imagination. If the Farm Arrays were used for farming, then since the ancients are gone, the crops could be responsible for layout/visual changes, for example. Really, we can come up with anything.hmm thats a good one actually. They did it with Drainage for Saint>Make some pipes available for some characters but not othersnow this one is depends on situation. I like following same layout but having more visual changes. Blocking off entire paths doesn't sound fun, that happened to one of the routes there's in Shoreline that is missing in Waterfront. They didn't add new one to compensate for it, making overall layout of region a bit more linear.
>>737262770>going somewhere other than 5p for onceThey would say that making you go to Five Pebbles over and over was part of their grand design to jumpscare you with the Saint
>>737262770>going somewhere other than 5p for once lmaomost default runs in Downpour are so damn streamlined. There's of course things in each that encourage thorough exploration of all regions but it's something that is not required for normie endings. And with how popular that dlc was for some reason it basically rewired people's perspective on Rain World
sex with slugcats
>>737262528Yeh man thats the STUFF. Even the more upbeat additions like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlZMhQEWxLM just really add to the feel of a colder, bleaker but still living rain world. The ost was a really stellar addition.>>737262594I think I audibly said "Oh no, what's happened to you, pebbles."Im not keen on saints story, I think it's too grand and dips its feet too much into rain worlds metaphysics when it shouldnt have. But it really knew where and when to hit me. Like I expected it and I still felt it.
>>737262868Outskirts could be less overgrown and have less food. Industrial Complex could have more environmental hazards in the form of still active machinery. Shaded Citadel could be a bit less degraded and have light sources that are still hanging on. Etc etc>>737263086Yeah. It's a real shame. I dropped a Gourmand playthrough once because of it. On a second attempt, I decided to just chill in each region for a much longer time, experiment with the crafting and such, and I had a much better experience>>737263432https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SvBfO1lQcsDude but what if slugcat but noclip, lmao
>>737263565>Industrial Complex could have more environmental hazards in the form of still active machinerythe world is meant to be completely abandoned though
>>737262594I smirked and was a little disappointed I wouldn't get to scale the wall
>>737263701True, but that doesn't mean there aren't remnants. The iterators are still active, and Downpour's Drainage System has changing water levels in some of the rooms. Maybe some pipe burst and is now spewing fire like in Watcher's Heat Ducts, and so on
>>737263565I think gourmand, if you redid his crafting to be more streamlined and less absurd would be very close to the quality of hunter. It would be nice if he could hold 2 things in his gullet too, to really sell the idea of "the smart item using slug"I really enjoy playing him in expedition and such. The exaustion adds a genuine consideration to gameplay especially if you decide to play with low scav reputation. And if the crafting was mostly on stuff like lanterns, flashbombs, maybe bombs that make spores but not actual sporepods. Probably the only time ive ever used flashfruits to walk past scav tolls was with gourmand.
>>737263565>I dropped a Gourmand playthrough once because of it. On a second attempt, I decided to just chill in each region for a much longer time, experiment with the crafting and such, and I had a much better experienceI like Gourmand's campaign and the foodquest gets me to explore a little more than normal, which I like, but holy fuck I can't stand the stamina mechanic he has. Shit drags his campaign low for me just because of how much it makes it a pain to move around and climb poles. I wouldn't have minded if it JUST made him do less spear damage or something less egregious, but it isn't fun and makes me dread revisiting his campaign.
>>737262528>>737262770RW devs (and modders) consistently KILL it with the music, it's all so good.

>>737263936>Probably the only time ive ever used flashfruits to walk past scav tolls was with gourmand.heh didn't know flashbangs work on scavs. Or maybe you meant the smoke from little octopuses?
Sketched a couple RW maps. I was trying to reproduce my mental representation of the layout—if I'm in Industrial Complex, which direction is Shoreline? That sort of stuff, not how it would actually look in reality. I made three versions, and while I don't think I got it quite right, I'm happy with the result
>>737264112 Modded region but flashfruits do work on scavs. (I also almost always play with minimum rep because I like fighting them) You need to be careful not to make too much contact though everything in rain world will still kill you if you bump them.
>>737264271>everything in rain world will still kill you if you bump themnever relax.
>>737240675Does that buzzword vomit even mean something because I'm sure a game about gay cat things is one of the last things to get bashed by trannies
I'm going crazy about something I remember in the vanilla game pre 1.9, but I'm not sure if it's true or something I made up.I remember than if the slugcat held 2 edible items in both hands I remember that holding the pick up button (eat function) makes it eat what's on its right hand, and only that item. Post Downpour DLC, holding 2 edible items in each hand then activating the eat function makes the slugcat eat the item from the right hand, then immediately continues to eat the item from the left hand. This is annoying for when you are carrying a mushroom and a food item, and only want to consume one.Can someone tell me if I'm right or wrong?
>>737264607I don't remember much of my preDownpour gameplay, but you're most likely right
I refunded this game after 15 minutes because I realized it was just I Wanna Be the Guy bullshit.
>>737264607I noticed this during my post-1.5 Watcher playthrough and was really surprised because I didn't remember that hold == eat both itemsBut if you're saying that this started happening with Downpour then I'm ever more confused honestly

>>737265640>Hate the insects.hehe. hahaha
>>737265640If you're a woman I'm sorryIf you're a guy he is trying to give you one of the best experiences possible in gaming. I bounced off this game twice but the third time around it was amazing

>>737265429>>737265496Thanks, didn't know the game used 3d graphics but it does make sense come to think of it.
>>737241591I think at this point watcher is really great, solidly better than downpour in my opinion. Almost a true rain world 2. But it's too bad they released it so early, because so many people got bad impressions.
>>737240341Okay listen, I know Rain World fags will tell me I'm retarded for saying this, but look up the movement guide, practice some moves then simply follow the guidance of the little yellow fag when he pops up in the game. It's a lot more fun when you're moving around smoothly and not struggling with the controls, and aren't bumbling around getting your asshole remodeled in endgame or optional areas. It's a very video gamey video game, it's not really the kind of autistic sandbox suffering simulator it initially feels like after you learn how to actually play.
>>737264607>>737264808>>737264932>>737265168>>737265378Strange that almost 9 years later and not a single mod that could "fix" this behavior.By the way, is there any lost media mods from the vanilla era? According to this weird russian wiki of the game, there was a region called Concealed Garden that even had a special gimmick that gave a mutation to the slugcats allowing you to "hear" the thoughts of yellow lizards.>https://rainworld.fandom.com/ru/wiki/Concealed_GardenThis region doesn't appear in the legacy section of mods from RainDB, which is strange since I thought they archived everything.
>>737266068I have a female friend and this is her favourite game, she has close to a thousand hours. Baffled me a bit.

>>737240136the game is kinda boring to be honest
>>737266273Strangely enough, I was trying to find Concealed Garden the other day, only to find it's stuck in 1.5 hell. It was cool, it even had a cutscene.

>>737263936Gourmand is so fun. There's nothing like dropping your fat fuck belly onto a lizard and then eating him or stunning something by just rolling into it. Also the way he rockets forward when he throws in the air is really fun
>>737266256>look up how the guides>suddenly what was a perfect link between you and your character slugcat now turns into another videogame. It's a dumb advice
>>737266273I have a copy of this, If I knew how to go about porting it Id maybe try but concealed gardens came with unique cutscenes and such so its not a quick file change senario. I think it's also tied to a different mod called lizardskin so thats another issue. The real holy grail of lost media is probably offshore rig, only a few people played it but I managed to get a copy from someone a while back.

>>737266839RW has both dough
>>737262725Not that much differenceOther than the rot getting scaled up in reach I suppose
>>737266541I know it's correct advice. But it's not going to stop some autist coming in and being like "BUT EVERY NEW PLAYER EXPERIENCE SHOULD BE TO GET STUCK IN FARM ARRAYS BEING MERCILESSLY RAPED FOR 5 HOURS LIKE MEEEE"
>>737267015>stuck in farm arrays being mercilessly rapedBut Farm Arrays is loaded with free food and not-that-threatening enemies, at least on survivor.
>>737267015Yes they should, and for your blasphemy im banishing you to LF_D07 forever.
>>737267015there's no rapists in Farm Arrays, it's a pretty chill region. Overhated too in my opinion, the updates made Raindeers much more bearable, you can actually control them now. There's also a few more hidden routes added with Downpour
>>737259309I think they could make it work. Joar is more of an artist than a programmer and has been fucking around with 3D a lot so i think he'd make some kind of aesthetic work. I think the issue is less in the visuals and more in the physics. In dev talks they already noted how much trouble implementing procedural movement is in 2D. 3D is a whole magnitude harder for it not to be totally janky
>>737266754>offshore rigNever heard of it. Was it a fully finished and connected region or a scrapped one?
>>737266931
>>737247804>scug that murders your family for no reason is brown

>>737266754>offshore rigI looked it up and it is the one I was thinking about, with some Underhang style graple worm traversal. It was fun. I feel like there were more regions before the ingame region viewer became a thing that got lost in the transition.
>>737267015kek people also say shit like that about Shaded Citadel likes it some hard region and I don't see how that is so. Shaded Citadel is a comfy region and I'm tired of pretending it's some kind of newcomer hellhole. Seriously, where does this retarded idea come from?
>>737267231>There's also a few more hidden routes added with DownpourThat one with the underwater tunnels is a mystery to me.
>>737267295how would a new player know about progress? Thats the thing you don't fuckin get with these stupid pointless hints. Everyone should be encouraged to fuck around in places like Farm Arrays, Filtration System and Shaded Citadel. It builds character
>>737267295Farm Arrays and Sky Island are the regions that I feel most relaxed in desu. I think it's the warm colors.
>>737267326>Shaded Citadel is a comfy regionwestern shaded citadel is comfythe rest of it is spider hell
>>737267473top routes are relatively spider free on Survivor and you can snatch a lantern from monkeys passing by. The glowing mouse also show the safest ways, it's genius design
>>737267445I wonder if the first filter a rain world player runs into affects their style and prefrences. My first filter was the leech tunnel in drainage since that was the first direction I went. And now I love any custom regions with lots of swimming.
>>737267473>the rest of it is spider hellOnly the deepest layers of it are like that, y'know? Like the paths that hardly anyone takes anyway? It's a comfy trek through a region with neat atmosphere and no threat music to disturb you, and the creatures there aren't that bad. Only thing I noticed in DP was the rude Miros Vulture spawn in one of the more open rooms in the middle/eastern half of it.
>>737267015>"BUT EVERY NEW PLAYER EXPERIENCE SHOULD BE TO GET STUCK IN FARM ARRAYS BEING MERCILESSLY RAPED FOR 5 HOURS LIKE MEEEE"correct

>>737267593>>737267778that's true, but the region architecture kind of pushes you towards the bottom routeand it's not really just the lowest parts of the area, it's like the lower half
>>737267696I got stuck in Garbage Wastes, trying to make it past the other scav toll. The one that only leads to a storage room. I spent two fucking hours bashing my head against those fucking niggers only to find a dead end. So I backtracked back to Outskirts to go through that other gate that I found earlier. The 5 karma level one. My first playthrough was wild. I love to explore though, so it's all good.
>>737267843>I guess if you're willing to enable mods mid playthrough, it's a shitty band aid for what's probably the worst mechanic in the game.I'm the biggest hater of RW mods though, thats the reason why I'm so conflicted with its DLCs
>>737267696You might be onto something. I gotta try this game again. I got filtered by it and restarted a few different times. Found a robot lady that didn't like when I ate some things near her and then I got lost and gave up.
>>737282717It's a really good game got me by surprise, after survivor I played monk and learned to use stuff I didn't as survivor, like, I did not know you could ride the jetfish, how bubblegrass worked and the little blue rocks that are actually food if you drop them in the water. Also as monk I gave moon her cloak, I hate that underwater area. Then I played hunter and as annoying as It was I enjoyed it, didn't make it to the depths tho.Haven't played the other ones yet, maybe I'll do it sometime in the future. Thanks for reading.

Why is every other fan of this game into vore
>>737292761weird niche games attract degenerates
>>737292761Probably because the game's onboarding process involves getting eaten a lot
SO WERE THEY SPACE INDIANS?
The Watcher was such a shit DLC that it killed any love I had for the game, literally just workshop maps stapled together with portals and zero lore.
>>737293248>literally just workshop maps stapled together with portals and zero lore.>>737293131 what's this then
>>737292761What gave you that idea?
>>737293131They were Space Moomins
>>737293338The final area of the game which you get to after hours of suffering through poorly made stapled together workshop maps which had English fucking text on buildings in the initial release of the DLC
Watcher just feels bad to play, every area is overpopulated with lizards, literally every screen has one to two lizards or five million electric turtle fucks that block the exit pipes.
>>737293498so you weren't being literal then
>>737292807>>737292979>>737293381>VOREFAGS.
>>737293575No the DLC does literally have workshop maps stapled together via portals that have nothing to do with the base game's lore or atmosphere.
I thought the DLC was going to be a iterator sending the Watcher out across a long distance to try and meet up with another operator but what we got was really gay and lame.
>>737293551Why did they do that.Yeah I get the watcher has some OP abilities but I feel like there was a more clever way to keep it challenging, >>737293668They're meant to be different parts of the world outside the complex at least?Them being different should be the expectation, the most disappointing areas were the ones that felt too much like the iterator complex if anything.
>>737293668some of them were, yeah. some of them (the better ones, notably) were wholly original. i wasn't really a fan of the watcher either but let's not just lie by omission now.
>>737293769I got the DLC day one, started in electric turtle fuck water region and the first place I went to was aether ridge, then found the desert with English text on the buildings and lost all good will I had with the game.
Can I pirate a specific version of rainworld? Never played it before and it looks incredible but from what I'm reading it seems like the devs enshittified it with updates
That downpour had like 6 slugcats all meet 5 pebbles
>>737293846what english text?
>>737293846me too and i also disliked those areas>english text on the buildingsdon't remember that. pics?
>>737293896one of the warehouses in the desert reigon had english text on it from the original workshop map, also had a softlock if you tried to follow the sand
>>737293863>seems like the devs enshittified it with updatesthis didn't happenat most people are complaining about the dlcs, in which case you can not buy them
>>737293863all the "updates" you're thinking of are DLC. the base game is the same as it was 6+ years ago, just with functionality improvements (like easier modding, bug fixes etc)
>>737293930that sounds like something that's probably fixed now

>>737293616They're spoiled?
I got to the normal ending where you swim in the goo. I just went through the normal path but apparently that is just half of the map and there are also DLC campaigns?
Do you SHIT, kitty? OAOAOAOAOAOAOAOAOAOAO
>>737294325if you just went the direct path there's probably a few optional areas you missedthe dlcs add a lot more content
>>737294259They jack off to pearls being swallowed ffs.Just disgusting creatures.
>>737293892Slugcats just infest his brain at this point
I don't think Watcher is that bad but how it requires you to do some completionist shit for endings is too much
>>737293863I think "Rain World-PLAZA" on the usual places is version 1.0 but I don't know if anyone is seeding it.>>737293935>>737293945Even the very first update (1.01) casualized and enshittified the game to some degree.
>>737295446can't believe how they fucking ruined the game just for casualds
>>737240136Not much to talk about.DLC was a gigantic disappointment and other DLC was talked to death, so has base game. But you can pretend to be new and ask for paths I guess.
>>737294876I have contamination and mutants in my brain
>>737294350>ojou-sama iteratoroh yeah
>>737257467Meet scav group -> fight them -> kill 8/10 -> get hit by a spear you fail to deflect or that's thrown at you from off screen -> die -> repeat process 3 times -> beat them move to next area with occasional kill squads is only fun the first few hours. You can get about the same experience playing Hunter while rushing through tolls unless you're REALLY into rocket jumping.
>>737243485Man, I'm on the fence about going through it again. I think I'll wait for the Steam controller to drop as an excuse to do a second playthrough.I had trouble consistently doing some of the movement tech with my xbone controller and I don't want to use KBM.
>>737298381I'm pretty sure the only new creature they added since release was a drill crab variant. Oh, and maybe a sky whale variant for locust maps. The new ending stuff is nothing exciting gameplay wise, you just do the exact same shit as with the Prince but close portals instead of rotting shit up.Only interesting part of it I guess is the actual ending sequence for lore stuff. You're not gonna miss out on much by just watching the ending cutscene or whatever instead of replaying. They fixed some of the glaring issues but it's still a chore.
>>737298381I wish gay ben just fucking released the controller already, even if he can't release the rest of the hardware right now. I'm in the market for a new one and I wanted to get that one
>>737294876At this point he should just get some himself. Slugcats seem to be the only competent lifeforms left on this planet.
>>737298728me too but I imagine the problem with that is they'll likely sell out and then there won't be any left for the console release
>>737275391erm... then where are artificer's children?

>>737298314also it has a boss fight that sucks massive cock. there shouldn't be boss fights in RW at all, let alone a dogshit "hit the boss 10 times while dodging 1shots" boss fights.
>>737285147>Niggers' Tongues Upon the Anus
Is the fatso any good? He's the only slugcat I haven't played (except the new DLC but I heard that's shit).
>>737302235I think his crafting mechanic is dumb but you can just never use it.He is very powerful but has shit stamina so it balances out.
>>737293616>not into that>have a thing for being pulled into tight spacesi play for different reasons we are not the same
>>737302235He's kinda like Rivulet with the OP powerfantasy but instead of movement it's items.
>>737267015How can a new player even get stuck in farm arrays? Don't you have to pass the toll booth? I think people would immediately see 5 fucks with spears and think it's immediate danger they should run away from before even trying to figure out WHY they're there.
>>737303829Unless you actively go out of your way you probably won't even find Farm Arrays on a blind Survivor playthrough.
>>737266256Never understood this since the controls in the game are fine. You pretty much learn a lot of the important mechanics through playing. I didn't look up anything in the game and learnt how to throw a spear into a wall to use it as a platform, backflip, re-orientate myself in pipes, boost through pipes, boost out of the pipes, boost out of water to reach higher ground, store an object for later and probably some others I forgot. Admittedly, there would be some nice concepts to know like throwing an item when you jump to go further or backflipping and throwing a spear up/down but I think the game is fine without a guide unless someone is REALLY struggling to understand. The only issue I ever had with the controls was the long jump because sometimes you needed to be perfectly on a ledge to make the jump and you'd miss a lot and fall to your death like in Chimney Canopy and Sky Islands.
>>737304191you never actually need to down throw unless you climb the wall tbfI'm so glad I got filtered by Chimney Canopy on my first run and went back and found the Garbage Wastes path from Industrial, I would have been fucked
>>737267696Yeah, I was stuck in Chimney Canopy for a long while and pretty much went in a circle around Garbage Wastes, Industrial Complex and back to Chimney Canopy for a total of 10 hours thinking I was making progress before eventually finding Shaded Citadel and making real progress. In the end, those three are my favourite areas and favourite part of my playthrough. I still listen to the Threat Theme from Industrial since I just loved hearing it and I like when there's a lot of chaos going on, like a Scav, some lizards and a fucking vulture in the sky while you're trying your hardest not to die is peak rain world to me.
>>737267696>that fucking part with a million kelps
>>737267696Only filter for me was all these areas/holes where I didn't know if they would lead me to new maps or just kill me from fall.Shit happened far too often.
>>737268125I love how this theme feels like you're really high up, I'm not sure how they did it but it perfectly encapsulates dangling from a spear in the wall with a fall to your death below and a vulture above.
>>737302235He has a unique questline that incentivises you to fight and kill tough enemies head-on, and crushing a centipede or a lizard with your fat ass is very satisfying.
>>737240136Why can't I bind shit to my mouse??? Why the fuck are the controls like that????? And it's too late to get a refund because I played too long, fuck this game piece of shit
>>737306903you said that before. What would you even want to bind to mouse
>>737304191For me it's rolling, roll jumping, knowing that you can bhop and pole cancel/fast climb. All shit I'd probably never have figured out without the guide and made my playthrough way more entertaining.I don't understand the whole idea that you're supposed to suffer through the learning process when the actual game is so much fun. Sure you shouldn't look up maps, routes or monsters, but knowing what kind of sick shit you can pull off with with the simple control setup was key to my enjoyment of the game.
>>737240136Bought the game during christmas sale but haven't found the time to play it yet. Maybe next christmas.

>>737299297>The scavs just in the corner crying
>>737302607AnonDo you know what has tight spaces?Your mom!!!!
>>737310153yeah I'm happy the thread is still up. If you want more behind the scenes content there's been recent 9th anniversary stream talking about Watcher-specific content. I can now see these guys actually tried and put effort to make something new and fitting to RW, but personally something is still missing. Perhaps its a 'old good new bad' situation and I'll get used to these in the future:https://youtu.be/S4E5-kWDBdo?t=3145
>>737310851neat. there's also the devlog that i have yet to read. just a bit of the initial concepts on tigsourcehttps://candlesign.github.io/Rain-World-Devlog/Home
>>737311398ah this is a must read, I went through it fully 2-3 times now at this point. Lots of insight from devs.>It's always been my intention that the story of rain world is that of the character, rather than that of the world, and that it is produced by the game engine rather than through writing. If you decide to take down a Vulture, and actually succeed, that is the story. If you save pups, or don't, or befriend some creature or kill some creature, that is the story.>That said, we do love our environments and of course we have ideas about what's what in the world, and we would like to try some "environmental storytelling." But don't expect to get some super clear linear array of events spelled out to you haha, we'll be hinting here and there but you'll have to do most of the work yourself.>The main character is a creature that's somewhere on the edge between animal and human thinking, meaning that it can only almost make sense of what it sees around it. It can maybe understand that the symbols on the wall bear meaning, but it can't understand the meaning. It can see that one machine connects to another through pipes, but it can't decipher the functionality much beyond that. It can guess that this big place might have served some big purpose, but it can never quite reach a clear understanding of that purpose. We want to mirror this experience in the player.
>SCAVS.
>>737311548have they ever said anything about lizard behavior? what got me wondering was how white lizards will chase me to other screens sometimes, and sometimes prefer to just stay where they are and re-cloak and wait for me. it's almost like individual lizards have a range of behaviors, kinda like how some scavs are more or less aggressive
>I gave them a pearl I thought they’d like and they still hate it!
>>737312012they did, but I don't have any quotes of it saved. Lizards are not some dumb monsters that hunt you specifically. There's deep behaviour systems in there, different character traits, their reputation with slugcat and other colours of lizards, reputation with different creatures. This system exists in every RW creature, but some are simple, like the lantern mice, others are incredibly complex ,like scavengers.
>>737312012to add to white lizards specifically. There's a special trait, I think it's called 'mean', thats is more common in white lizards at The Leg. It makes them much more aggressive in comparison to their usual ambush predator behaviour
>>737241213>accidentally drop mice>it bolt down the tunnel>get swallowed by a huge swarm of spiders>light goes outAbsolutely terrifying moment I still remember to this day.
>>737312427yeah that makes sense. the leg/exterior white lizards were what i had in mind for aggression...except for this one apparently
>>737312689never fuckin relax. The game really humbles you at times even after years of experience
>>737312818haha yeah, it scared the shit out of me. i'm still SO bad at noticing camouflaged lizards
>>737312689Nightmare levelIt is funny to be stuck on a pole while their tongue is on you and you just are stuck trying to get it off And have to do the swinging gameDon't mess it up or you'll be sent flying off the edge (or worse)! Also it at least is fun to manage to knock one of them off the edge with the right baiting
>>737311548That sense of being so out of your depth is felt multiple times.I still don't know the void worm's dealIf it was just death hallucinations with the cycle no longer being available to you or something more truly transcendent 5 pebbles seemed to hint to the latter but I still find it hard to understand
Is this world just doomed to the rot?Or is it but another super cycle Atop the cycles already endured?
>>737313540are you talking about watcher rot? I think the implication there was that it happens because of all the space ripping portal fuckery. >>737310851In this recent devstream I just finished watching James pretty much drops it that he made RW multiuniverse slop just to have modded regions make sense in game. Shits retarded
>>737314212It just being a product of the portals goes against the narrative of it being an inevitability doesn't it?
so is Watcher REALLY worth a replay? be honest

>>737317707he said that he doesn't really care about what people do with rain world recentlyhe is done with it, it's a complete piece
>>737317707From what I understand about the situation he's perfectly fine financially, and while I don't know the exact profit split between him, james, and their new publisher, I'd imagine he's taken care of.The real villain of the story is adult swim ironically, as Rainworld was originally published by them (they published a bunch of weird avant-garde videogames for a bit) but then they completely de-funded and removed that branch of the company, and basically dumpstered every way Joar and James could update/interact with their game legally. This is because to publish updates, DLC, or anything else for the game they needed permission from adult swim. This lead to a lengthy legal battle where from what I can tell Joar's passions went to different things, and he simply hasn't wanted to return to developing on Rainworld even after its legal troubles have resolved. Now he's working on Airframe Ultra, which I'm not that interested in.
>>737318360what a shame

>>737318360>Now he's working on Airframe Ultra, which I'm not that interested in.Half agree myself, I'm somewhat interested in Airframe for the fact that they're doing something with 3D, but at the same time I'm not that excited for it since it seems like a multiplayer-focused kind of experience, which I don't care for much honestly. Just hoping that future Rain World content is good or that their other projects like signal are something unique like RW.

>>737313449>If it was just death hallucinations with the cycle no longer being available to you or something more truly transcendent I think it's something morealso in one of moon's pearl readings she says that if you put a pipe down there it dissolves, or is broken by some forceit's interesting that it's not just assumed that the pipe dissolves in the void
>>737324841Stalker with mods is the closest thing to replicating the feeling I've found.
>>737325691>modded stalkerfag
>>737321637>>737324841Rain World is an auteur game, and those are EXTREMELY fucking rare.So fucking rare, in fact, that it might be faster AND easier to make your own - and I say this knowing full well that such a project is the nightmare difficulty of gamedevving.
>throw a lizard a bug I had on hand that I didn't need so it doesn't chase me>hibernate>progress towards the friend>wake up>lizard apparently got into the den after it closed and hibernated with me>weird, usually one feeding isn't enough for that>it instantly attacks me in the denVery cool, rain world. I will kill that lizard when I resapwn.
>>737326514Procedural animation algorithms and a systems game?AhahahahaYeah that is too much even for my overscoping ass
>clogs your pathWhy the FUCK did they add these things, they're so annoying and not very interesting to deal with
>>737327831For the gooning
>>737327831I always assumed they were a quickly hacked together idea that wasn't properly thought out when the DLC was rushed out.
>>737327831it's satisfying to see the peach lizards break them at least
>>737327831To be completely fair they aren't even 1% as annoying as they used to be at launchThey used to cluster together way harder, for much longer and would stun you on contact with 0 cooldown
>>737328240This is true, but they still add basically nothing except making you repeatedly chuck rocks at a cluster of them until they leave.
>>737327831i don't even know how to deal with these guys. do they even interact with other objects at all? like sporepuffs or something>>737326514i dabbled in gamedev back in college, yeah it's a pain. i nope'd the fuck out of that direction
>>737328520>i don't even know how to deal with these guys. do they even interact with other objects at all? like sporepuffs or somethingpopsnails and explosives break their shells, spore puffs kill them
Hey dudes, does this game run okay on potatoes? I've always wanted to give it a try but never found the time until just recently.
>>737328951it runs pretty well but less well than you might expect for a 2d platformerjust try it and if it doesn't run well refund it
>>737328951I ran it just fine on my shitty laptop. Even managed to run OBS with it.
>>737325769whats wrong with AMK?
>>737328951If it runs on a core2duo gt1030 It will run on anything
>>737329057>>737329113>>737329962Cool, thanks anons.I'll give it a try either today or tomorrow.Shame I got into the thread so late though
>>737328363Yeah I do have to agree, even taking into account the changes they've made
>>737327831the developer stream linked above says that is literally their entire point. Fuckin shit creature
>>737330060I wish I could play this game for the first time again....
>>737331006damn, none of the dlcs or regions mods really feel like getting lost on your first playthrough
>>737331006I don't. It took me 2 years of playing on and off to finish my first playthrough and fall in love with the game.I'm afraid I wouldn't have the patience to do it a second time.
>>737266541My first playthrough i never saw Moon or filtration at all. I somehow went straight to Five Pebbles, and then he said west so i went straight to the farm arrays and then the end.
>>737330654Should've accepted the pearl
>>737332529Different experience for me. I started playing the game right around the whole pandemic lockdown stuff in early 2020. Probably the comfiest time to play rain world since I had so much time indoors and the game was somehow scratching that exploration game itch I had at the time. No idea if I would do that nowadays if I were new to the game.
Rain World is the greatest game that will ever be made. There will never be another Rain World.
>>737330654>It wasn't me! 5P did it!
>>737331127watcher was pretty good for that, so long as you don't look up how your abilities work
