Why is it always knight, mage, healer. Is there any canonically unique main parties in rpgs? Like maybe an orc protagonist with a necromancer and an ardent.

the three major roles of most RPGs are healer, tank and DPSa knight is usually a DPS but can be a tank, a mage is typically a DPS and in Konosuba's case Aqua is a priestess which is a healerthat is the ultimate trio you can divide a party into neatly without doubling on abilities or requirements or missing any, like dividing the colorwheel into blue, red and yellowsure you can toss green and orange in there if you need it but those three do the job bestin this case they did effectively toss in a fourth in the form of kazuma, a rogue, who is also a DPS and you'll notice typically those are the ones you can have the most ofyou're also conflating roles with races and classesorc is a racenecromancer and ardent are classesthey usually take on certain roles and you might be able to subvert that but they're ultimately still not roles and thus the trio isn't brokenyou can absolutely play a game with a bunch of DPS and just absolutely haul ass shoot piss kill quick and be done with it, you can play with a buncha tanks but that's slower, and playing with a buncha healers is like giving the flower girl at a wedding the role of setting up the pyrotechnics, you don't do that unless you want things going to shit and someone crying
