Android gets proton and will run PC games
>>
you actually think android is the competitor of windows?
>>
>>737251084
I think this will kill gen Z and Alpha ever getting a pc and touching windows.
>>
>>737251217
anon they already couldn't figure them out, this generation is on its way to not being able to scratch their nose if AI or something doesn't tell em how
i don't think this was ever the final nail in the coffin
it's like saying a minor paperclip is the real reason why the guy born without legs won't be able to walk anymore
>>
>>737251084
Android is Linux but googlefied
>>
>>737250984
TLDR?
>>
>>737251414
>paperclip
papercut* wtf am i on
>>
>>737251217
zoomers can't navigate a file browser to save their lives. alphas are probably worse.
>>
>>737251472
Proton 11 came out from Valve which added ARM64 Proton Support which means it will work on phones or tablets. It's still experimental obviously.
>>
>>737251746
So, Proton is a VM for Windows?
>>
Android bait aside, the good news is the ARM support.
I UNIRONICALLY think that ARM is the future.
If only PC parts weren't going through an apocalypse right now because of slop, I'd bet on the Steam Deck 2 using an ARM chip. The Frame is going to use one(if it ever comes out)
>>
>>737251806
A collection of tools designed to get Windows software running on Linux. It's a translation layer instead of emulation or VM. This now extends to phones and tablets and anything with a ARM chip.
>>
>>737251920
Oh nice
>>
>>737251217
youngest gen z is 16

gen z is 16-31 im pretty sure a lot of that age range got a pc and touched windows before
>>
>>737251885
This makes those chinkhelds shine even more. Odin 3 and the DS copy Thor pack high end Snapdragons and they have MESA support just like Steam Deck.
>>
Android can already run pc games with winlator
I'm just waiting on steam to polish it and release it
>>
>>737252148
Winlator uses DXVK which is pretty much an exact rip from Valves proton repo. What you play on Winlator now is what Valve is doing now.
>>
>>737252259
Cool, why won't valve release it then? It's already good enough
>>
>>737252127
Problem is that those chink handhelds doubled in price because of the RAM bullshit
>>
>>737250984
This is actually insane, I just tried "GameNative" it's free and open source. Ps4 era games run really well.
>>
>>737252324
DXVK relies on the device having a competent Vulkan driver. Lots of phones out there have garbage Vulkan drivers. Snapdragon devices replace their driver but only some can (rooted devices and chinkhelds) most others have this on lockdown by the OEM/Carrier.
>>
>>737251217
what? no, phones will just become the gateway to pc gaming
>>
>>737252347
You can still pick up an Odin 2 Portal for $250. It will play everything up to Nintendo Switch or Devil May Cry 5 on PC.
>>
>>737250984
It's such a sadness, that you think you've played a game on your fucking telephone. Get real.
>>
>>737252775
Phones are stronger than Nintendo hardware now
>>
>>737252775
Aren't you dead
>>
>>737250984
Xbox emulation is also on Android now. It's pretty decent. It can play Jet Set Radio Future at full speed.
>>
>>737252775
You can connect it to a Monitor, connect a controller and it feels like a PC / Console.
>>
>>737250984
Android on suicide watch.
Linux gets lepton and will emulate some banking apps or something. Android is the worst thing to happen to computing since Vista.
>>
>>737250984
already sold my steam deck and bought a redmagic 11 pro
0 regrets
>>
>>737250984
It's not just Proton. They released an arm version of Steam, so you can ditch Android and run Linux instead for better performance and latency. It's still in a very early stage, so the performance tends to be worse than Android, at least on Rocknix.
>>
>>737250984
I had bought a LGV60 with the dual screen case for playing games on, and I pretty much just played Starcraft on it or emulators. I can't think of any other games I'd play on such a small screen, and without as much power as a laptop. Not to mention that the LGV60 would get hot as fuck when emulating.

Seems like a good way to blow up your phone unless you buy one of those external fans for your phone.
>>
>>737250984
modern phones are decently powerful and when valve inevitably starts supporting playing steam games on android it'll cause developers to account for them and make settings options for them
we're about to see the death of obsolescence
>>
>>737254542
>Valve
>Supporting Android
Valve always takes the laziest option that requires paying off the fewest rentseekers.
They're releasing an ARM VR headset and explicitly using Linux for it, they're not going to negotiate with Google any more than they have to.
>>
>>737254860
>negotiate with Google any more than they have to.
here's the thing
they don't have to
remember the precedent timmy set with apple?
>>
>>737254860
The input latency on Android is terrible. Valve is doing the right thing by going with Linux for the Frame.
