As a millennial who grew up on DMC I can say that the series regularly got clowned on for being gay and cringe by millennials. I remember X-play giving DMC4 2/5 stars because "Too arcadey japanese and flamboyant", takes like this is literally what led to the reboot in the first place. DMC was arguably before its time since it seems to resonate more with Gen Z, Dante was aura farming before aura farming was even a concept.
