During cinematics when the camera changes to a new scene there is an awful texture streaming delay on various surfaces. I remember this exact same thing happening in RAGE and WOLFENSTEIN... And lets be honest, rage and wolfenstein are far from the smoothest games. They are just clunky games all around.

Whenever i play games i run ALL_CPU_METER to gauge how well a game engine utilizes multiple cores, and in the past few years id say about 99% of all the name brand games take advantage of multiple cores.. The only games that have surprised me by not utilizing multiple cores are the ID engine games and the ARMA engine games (arma2,arma3, and dayz)

While running the evil within, one core runs at 80% while all the others sit idle at 10% or below.. (Surpisingly even the laughable game WARZ has multiple-core support and manages to runs all cores at an even 40-60%.)

Pretty unacceptable considering bethesdas older game engines support multiple core usage just fine.

The next thing that I look at is how much a GPU core a game is utilizing. Usually the higher the better. You can tell a game is not optimized if it has low gpu usage WHILE the framerate is also low at the same time. Because that shows that little to no 3D hardware acceleration is taking place.. Again the only games i have seen with this issue in the recent past is the arma and ID engine games.

I can give the ARMA engine a pass for being based on legacy software, but remember how much bethesda hyped the ID engine? Making it seem like one of the best engines of all time? RAGE did not even have graphic options upon launch.

Given the fact that 60% of the damn screen is taken up by black bars, you would think achieving 60fps would not be an issue. But to my surprise the game's framerate was all over the place. I've seen it go from 60 down to 24.. And to see my video card only being used 40% while the game is running at 24fps is quite a pity to say the least.

It's really one of those games where the early antagonist is so good, that the game actively disintegrates once his section is over. Stefano's gimmick with the time manipulation gore art pieces was so much better than the burning priest dude and the cum wife. He also had the best monster, while I don't even remember what the other two had beyond the standard burning and bukkake zombies.

I'm not the best to put it into words, but TEW1 overall achieves things that TEW2 can barely grasp. TEW2 feels like a western studio tried to make an open world game using the characters. The gameplay feel might be better, but something critical was lost - whatever makes the first game feel so gritty and visceral. So focused and intense. I was one of those people who was really pissed off at the shit frame rate/Optimisation when it launched on xbox. Weird time for gaming when it launched. Devs were a foot in and a foot out of old and new tech.

I never played EW2 but, It looked really cool.
As time goes on I rewatch longplays of both games. Supper comfy but, but regular gameplay suffers trying to be the last of us. Should stayed with RE4 OG style.

I agree with the something lost aspect. For all the jank and some genuinely broken or buggy stuff the ew1 sometimes displays, the game is peak survival horror on nightmare and akumu. I fall more and more in love with it upon each replay and for the ew2 it doesn't really get that. I do actually enjoy the post serial killer stuff in ew2, the dungeon levels with all the blood and voice overe about how fucked seb is do hit for me BUT the gameplay just isn't there. There's a tightness to ew1 where everything clicks, ew2 doesn't match it.

Kinda sucked that Stefano Valentini was just an underling. The whole frozen in time photography murder motif was a pretty neat aspect. Then the bit where they expanded on his art with the statues when you had to destroy his art to get into the theater was cool.

Then we get generic evil priest guy. Even the little camera traps where you get slowed down when an enemy rushes you were fun.

Yes, and it's intense. You're constantly getting thrown from one setting to another, and it doesn't make sense until the very end. There's environmental hazards, ambushes, traps, setpieces, time limits, crazy boss fights. The resource management actually feels rough at times.
Some of the early areas are visually inspired by RE4 but they don't play the same.

TEW1 is like a throwback to RE4 without any of the slick polish and refinement it had. In many ways questionably retarded. What if you had QTEs and context-sensitive animations that didn't render you invincible, but you had to use them excessively anyway? What if the level design becomes hallway gauntlet of traps and enemies past the first two, very open levels? What if the game were excessively difficult, where the enemy TTK would vary from instadeath from headshots to tanking up to 9 bullets to the head?

God TEW 1 is so fucking GOATed. One of my all-time favourite games. They absolutely fucking nail the atmosphere. Mainstream survival horror since then has been pretty disappointing although the indie scene has good shit. It wasn't as bad as people were making it out to be, but still a massive disappointment, especially when it comes to the visual style. Open world shit was bad as you would assume, constantly going through the same areas instead of well crafted set pieces you travel through once. The only nice thing I can say about it is it gave the combat more depth, which is exclusively melee now.

I can't remember if it was more about her canonically refusing to kill, or just that her using guns didn't suit her. Them falling off the roofs might not necessarily be intentional, but I always remember that one part early in the game where there is a guy standing at the edge and it seems like an obvious situation where you're meant jump kick him off to his death.
