Now that the dust has settled, what did we think of ER: SotE?

IMO, the scadutree fragment system severely reduces the replayability of the DLC. Elden Ring in general is already too large and a completionist playthrough is too much commitment for an adult with obligations and responsibilities, but unlike the base game, the system sort of forces a completionist style.
>>
>>737254452
you don't have to use scadutree fragments
i was able to get to radahn just fine without using a single one
>>
>>737254452
Some high highs but the lows are abysmal. I still can't believe the final boss is real and not some elaborate shitpost, genuinely could not think of a more embarassing choice to close out the game with

I loved this DLC and the world design was great. The bosses were also insane outside of a few duds. 10/10 dlc as expected by Fromsoft

you aren't meant to feel strong you're meant to be able to complete the game without having to no-hit every fight and skipping 90% of the content
>>
>>737254452
i like exploring a level not whatever the fuck elden ring is, 90% of the game is running into a wall hoping you find some opening only broken up by a boss rush, its just dogshit gameplay, and as good as the combat it is, gets broken up by the nonsensical dbz power up move spam that every fucking build does not to mention every boss having twenty phases it becomes unremarkable very quickly and the dlc only expands upon these ideas and makes it worse than the base game
>>
>>737254452
played it recently after not having liked Elden Ring too much
>world design is ok, I like how vertical it is
>weapons are cool even though the gameplay itself is still roll slop
>very cool art design
>areas are mostly visually interesting
>Rennala and the tree avatar were cool
But
>fragment collecting sucks
>every enemy and boss is like satire of my base game criticisms:
>barely readable
>everything spasms and spins
>usually cover at least 80% of the screen at all time
>flailing at legs
>why is every fucking enemy spinning all the time?
>positioning has completely disappeared as option in fights as now every enemy is essentially a homing missile which also makes them look like shit (Mesmer's charged spear thrust looks particularly awful due to this)
>I think I liked one music piece but I forget which one because all tracks sound similar
>the mist forest sucks
>I had been aware of the Radahn fight beforehand and was still surprised at how bad it is

I guess if you like Elden Ring, it's more Elden Ring. I didn't like the base game all too much so I didn't like this one either. I wish they had continued going the Sekiro direction rather than doubling down on Bloodborn and DS3.
>>
ER was shit so I never played it

How to speed run elden ring to dlc.
>Both fort medallions,
>grand lift
>radahn festival
>rannis quest (2nd half) for mimic tier and tiche
>leydell
>both snow field secret medallions

Should be like level 60 before draconic tree sentinel. You can cheese most bosses with imp fang ashes and blood hound fang, and use storm blade spam to kill blood hound knight.

The only other things to speed run are the ball bearings for smiting stones and glovewort/gravewort

The only down side to speed running the game is you miss out on all the low level upgrade items from rannis first half of her quest. Pretty much 100% the game means completing the frenzied flame and deathbed quests and curing oneself of the frenzied flame with the melanie needle at after the multiheaded dragon.

Most people finish the game between level 120-150

I liked the Crusade and Hornsent elements but narratively the Miquella stuff was pretty trash. Terrible conclusion to that character, particularly with Radahn of all people playing such a prominent part. Literally my worse fear was that he was just going to end up being Griffith and that's pretty much what he was. I would have much rather he was a genuine messiah figure with a story element in the DLC more similar to Ranni.

i had a blast learning rellana which culminated in this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9BFYlFtJpA
but for the life of me i couldnt enjoy fighting messmer, and there was such little freedom allowed in approaching radahn that i just felt funneled into dodging the same dodges 99% of the playerbase were doing at the time

I genuinely missed having all the copy-paste small dungeons with shitty rewards that i couldn't even use for my build. its was a real bummer when i finally realized that there was never going to be any point in following a cliff face just to see what might be over there, because it was literally always nothing, rather than nothing 90% of the time like in the base game
>>
>>737257941
The first time I played the DLC I didn't have the Deflect tier until Radahn so I loved Rellana, since she's pretty much a perfect dance of positioning and parrying. Didn't much care for Messmer because as you said he was too strict with positioning and with parries being pretty much impossible, which I hate in a boss. Replaying it with the Deflect tier really made the fight much better and allows you to be much more aggressive.

>>

Same and I think the only fight that was fucking rough with it was Leda and friends. Although it was a lot of fun summoning people so confident they could kill everyone with that barbs spell before it got patched only to get fucking obliterated since they lose their own fragment buffs.
>>
>>737258276
Bayle fucking sucked. Wow, epic moby dick reference with a boss fight that's 50% walking to the other side of the arena because the boss did a kickflip across the map.
>>
I really enjoyed it. I don't understand scaudtree hate. You are supposed to explore the game? No one complains about having to explore the base game for flasks and golden seeds/ memory stones. I think its because everyone has them memorized already. I also don't understand the sentiment that all the stuff you find in the DLC is trash. There are many weapons/spells/armors/tears/etc to find just like in the base game. Yes, if you have a specific build, not every weapon will work for you. This is true of all fromsoftware games. I honestly don't understand why people harep on this so much with elden ring.
>>
>>737258356
wut he's always in your face, he's the perfect dragon boss
>>
>>737254452
I'm not buying this slop at full price and it has never been on sale, so I guess i'll forever be deprived of fighting Radahn 2 and Zanzibart 25.
>>
>>737258424
>I honestly don't understand why people harep on this so much with elden ring
The problem is a bit more exaggerated with how much stuff there is to explore. The actual problem comes from people only wanting to do 1 playthrough so they don't think about NG+ when they pick up something not for their current build.
>>
>>737254452
I found it boring from the perspective of a character that was already more or less maxed out from the base game. The isolated progression system may have been a good idea or necessary to balance it with the base game, but it was extremely unsatisfying with how they obscured the effects of the scoobydoo fragments behind some vague "you're better now bro. you've leveled up bro. just trust me bro. why you need to look behind the curtain bro?" I found virtually no new gear worth switching to, I think there was the one improved turtle charm I used but that was it for the whole DLC. Bosses were pretty unmemorable on the whole. Final boss was kind of bullshit and unfun with how little breathing and wiggle room you got. Half the tries he would already be charging you by the time you spawned and regained control inside the arena. I heard they eventually nerfed him though.
>>
>>737258618
Ok. It's not Spyro or Banjo Kazooie. I don't understand the autistic impulse to treat every game like a collectathon, then get dissapointed when not every item you find is usefule to your character. People are going to use guides top find the items they want anyway, or they are like me and enjoy the pleasure of exploring regardless of the reward.
>>
>>737258424
Going in with a Str/Faith build, finding the Greatsword of Solitude in the first 15 minutes, I didn't really feel compelled to use much else, either aesthetically or performance wise. I really wish you could use multiple Ashes of War on the same weapon because I would absolutely love being able to access more of the "Wind" themed attacks like Storm Blade, Storm Caller

Plus they hid the Oathsworn armor and shields in very niche spots and the armor was also quite weak. I would have been rocking those the entire game if they were given early and I could put the cloak onto it so it was at least as good as normal Knight Armor.
>>
>>737258470
Did they change the AI at some point? My memory of Bayle was that he was constantly running away like a bitch and when he wasn't he was way to fucking big to see anything he was doing.
>>
>>737258831
To me, this is not a bad thing. You found something cool to use right of the bat that you liked enough to use for the entirety. That leaves all the other cool stuff for you to use on other playthroughs if you are so inclined. Such is the nature of all souls games. How many people stuck with the claymore and zweihander in dark souls?

It depends on the length of the content. In base game there was a steady parade of new weapons and general armor "upgrades" that were appealing enough to try out and wear for a while. That provides a sense of progress and improvement to go with your game knowledge and the area changes. But having such a strong set so early into 30 hours where nothing really excels past it aesthetically or performance wise to the same degree hampers that feeling.
>>
>>737259170
Nah, I'm watching videos of the fight to refresh my memory. Bayle is dogshit compared to Placidusax.
>>
>>737259452
I just don't see this complaint as being valid. There are plenty of other good faith strength weapons in the DLC, or even standard weapons of new types that you could infuse to that end. While it may have been true for you that you didn't feel the desire to use any other equipment, it is not objectively true that the DLC lacks density of content.
>>
>>737259625
agree to disagree, apart from his nuke placi is a chonkier version of midir, meanwhile bayle beats the shit out of you with his broken bone
>>
>>737259749
I didn't criticize the content density, I criticized the pacing, progression and mostly aesthetics. If you got Erdtree Knight Armor + Marika's hammer from that first Guardian you kill immediately outside the tutorial and then didn't get the default Knight armor until Volcano Manor that'd be silly too.
>>
>>737258684
>obscured the effects of the scoobydoo fragments behind some vague "you're better now bro. you've leveled up bro. just trust me bro. why you need to look behind the curtain bro?"
You stupid nigger you can literally see how much each successive fragment is affecting you in your character stats screen.
>>
>>737260146
I found the oathsseakers armor with the prata right away when I played. Not the games fault that you miss optional equipment in the starting area. You could easily go through the base game without checking the store in roundtable hold and finding the knight set since its something you need to purchase rather than find in a starting area.
>>
>>737260402
Okay? How is that relevant?
>>
>>737254452
>the scadutree fragment system severely reduces the replayability of the DLC.
I disagree. Literally just ignore it and use only the skibidis you find along the way from boss to boss and it should be enough, and if you instead ignore more and more of them it's going to be a different (and harder) game every time.

>Extremely powerful

Its just a greatsword with a good ash of war. I don't see how it is any more broken than any other weapon in the game. Its also endgame content so it all comes dwown to what is powerful for your build. Thats like saying because you can get moonveil early in the base game, that ruins the pacing. Its a retarded argument and I won't suffer it.
>>
>>737260824
>Thats like saying because you can get moonveil early in the base game, that ruins the pacing
You can get moonveil early by meta knowledge. The only way you'd get it organically is if you get pranked and then you struggle through a bit of cock and ball torture and you get a neat reward out of it. It's totally different.
>>
>>737254452
why is this shit never on sale? No way I'm spending $30 on a DLC with negative reviews. Is it even good at all?

You could say the same about the greatsword of solitude. You missed find the oathseeker armor in the early game of the DLC, whos to say someone wouldn't miss the sword? Its also locked behind a tough boss enemy. I just think your argument is extremely nitpicky and crappy. Especially if its your basis for disliking the whole DLC.

Visually stunning, but incredibly half baked. This may be one of the least finished pieces of content fromsoft has ever produced and you feel it in basically every aspect.

Terrible dungeon design for main dungeons. I have no idea what they've been thinking with Castle Ensis in particular, it's literally a boring featureless super linear hallway. Belurat is almost equally linear, Shadow Keep tries to do something unique but all of its individual environments feel fanmade except specimen storage. New Londo area in particular is abhorrently bad. Midra's manse felt like a personal spit in a face for me - a madness themed mansion should by all accounts be the most memorable area fromsoft can do, but it's literally a narrow path without ambience or a semblance of level design.

Overworld fucking sucks to explore. I salute them for creating interconnected overworld maps and it's probably very hard to design right, but there's barely anything to even find there. Some areas feel like an early alpha like Cerulean Coast, what the literal fuck is going on with this area?

Light greatswords, odachi and backhands are fun and a few other unique weapons are good but the vast majority of new gear feels like shit, boss weapons in particular feel incredibly samey and boring beyond messmer's spear, compare them to the likes of Frayed Blade in DS3.

Whoever handled Miquella feels like a completely different person compared to the person who was writing DLC npcs. That was a character suicide, i can't describe it as anything else. Promised radownies is animated like shit, conceptually he's just a shittier twin princes and he even reuses pontiff animations, feels like a shitpost fanboss.
>>
>>737261353
Not really. The Greatsword is found in a gravesite in a very visually distinct spot of the opening area. Oathseeker armor is teased at the beginning but iirc it requires you going up to the entrance of the first dungeon and then cutting a right down by the coast. That's not really relevant though because it's fairly standard armor. Nice looking but statistically inferior to most other heavy armor, Moonveil is in Caelid, in a fairly discreet dungeon, which is a whole separate area, with scary powerful creatures that generally encourage players to come back later.

I never said I disliked the DLC. You can criticize an aspect of something without hating it, captain autismo

>>737261048

>the death pillar that does nothing
>skibidi chalice was obviously meant for something
>3 giant ass finger ruins with barely anything in them
>the area behind Midra's mansion is on the map but not explorable
>awkward ass teleport to Enir Ilim instead of going up from Belurat
>>
>>737261941
>You can get moonveil right away by choosing to ignore exploring the starting area and walking into hell cancer swamp
Yeah, I know, that's still a bit of progress beyond "Take a left at the very start of the DLC"
>>
>>737262168
No, it's not even remotely close to their high tier dungeons. Even specimen storage is just a poor man's research hall and other sub-areas are outright terrible.
>>
>>737261861
Yes, some areas are more empty than others. I don't think that makes them half baked or shit theough. They are just interesting places to check out, like icing on the cake. The scale of the DLC is far greater than anything every attempted by From before so its expected that some areas are more lacking than others. Castle ensis is also not a legacy dingeon? Its equivalent to caria manor in the base game. A small optional area to get some cool gear.

Anyone saying the overworld sucks to explore got filtered by the very thing they praise dks1 for which is vertical map design. It feels to me like there are geneuinly secret paths that you need tyo find in order to progress, rather than open fields that flow into the next.

I agree on the story points, miquella was disspaointing, but I did like the npc's.

The gear was all awesome to me, so I disagree there. I especially enjoyed the quest to get the sowrd of light and dark.

>The gear was all awesome to me, so I disagree there. I especially enjoyed the quest to get the sowrd of light and dark.
But it's literally just a longsword with a stationary ash of war. Compare it to the insane ringed knight longsword which gives you a second moveset basically.
>>
>>737262498
Thats just one example of one weapon that was mainly interesting because it required a secret side quest to acquire. The dlc has tons of cool weapon yupes like beast calws, hand to gand, backhand blades, perfume bottles, light greatsword, thrusting shields, great katana's, smithscript weapons. And these can all be customizaed with different ashes of war, whereas the weapons in DKS3 were all loacked into the same movesets and scaling. This is not even counting the cool somber weapons like meteroic ore greatsword, sunflower blossom, greatsword of solitude, dancers sword, the crossbows, putrecence cleaver, euphoria, sword lance, and many more. I think they came out with some of the most creative items in any from game for this DLC, and added everything people complained about being missing from other games (bone fist).
>>
The fact it
>Is a sidestory, not something that comes after the main game nor is there another expansion that is
>Is self contained. Nothing you do impacts the mainline story- youi can finish the mainline game after doing SotE at its earliest portal and nothing changes. No new stuff in the mainline
>Doesn't have a lot of new story , faction or the big mysteries that people were interested in seeing more regarding. No GEQ / Melina stuff, and I won't even start on the lack of Godwyn shit some expected,, or all of "uterus structure" in the mainline people thought would be equivalent to Miquella etc.
>Last boss is stupidly difficult mechanically but it being the same guy again only puppeted by his queer boyfriend is disappointing. You can't even join with Miquella properly, or try to help his plan come to fruition, and no matter what you do nothing fucking happens.

I've long said that Phantom Liberty and SotE are two of the most disappointing expansions around because you can SEE how close they came to getting it right but everything was fucked or cut out too early.

>>

I would say every new weapon type is a unique as those. They all have the ability to change ashes and war and scaling to suite and build you can dream of. They also each have somber versions with unique ashes of war, so sote mogs dks3 dlc in multiple ways.
>>
>>737265297
>Crow quills is just a rapier dude
Crow quills is literally a rapier paired with black keys from fate, it mixes rapier pokes with slashes and has a hyperarmored running attack, there's literally no weapon like it in ER.
>and friedes is just a scythe with some anime shit
Oh you're just trolling at this point

Light greatswords are the best thing about SOTE but they are nothing special, fromsoft already did this concept with Loyce GS in DS2. DS3 dlc weapons are unsurpassed in how unique they are
>>
>>737265835
>Oh you're just trolling at this point

It's a twinned scythe that has a unique moveset that is arguably the best scythe moveset in the entire series, a stance with a hyperarmored combo, a delayed aoe (which transitions into another combo after execution) and deals frostbite buildup on top of it all. You will shit yourself trying to find anything remotely as unique in ER.

Wasted potential, the weapon.

>It's a twinned scythe that has a unique moveset that is arguably the best scythe moveset in the entire series, a stance with a hyperarmored combo, a delayed aoe (which transitions into another combo after execution)
Yeah, around here we call that "anime shit" and call it a day.

Garbage game in general. The combat is embarrassingly bad and any build will inevitably end up being a rollslop. Stellar Blade's combat unironically mogs it to hell and back.

>>737254452
>Elden Ring in general is already too large and a completionist playthrough is too much commitment for an adult with obligations and responsibilities,
Did you just ask Grok to make a shitpost from 2011 or something? Haven't heard this shit since I was a high schooler reading a game informer.

As an adult with responsibilities, the argument doesn't hold much water for me, because I've blown over 500 hours on this game and would gladly play more. It wouldn't even be ridiculous for me to make a new character, though I'm hoping that the Tarnished Edition content drops first. There are no other games that come close to the same feeling this game gives, save its predecessors. I defy you to name a better rpg on a modern console.

>>737254452
Just like ER itself it was entertaining to play but looking back it's just more of the same tired formula by lazy devs that were asked to do one more Dark Souls because people will buy it.

No other game has buckbroken people as hard as this one. There are anons who have a psychological need to cry about the game every time they see a thread because they were filtered out of the biggest cultural phenomenon in gaming since Skyrim
>>
Not only do jump attacks have to be parryable in Elden Ring 2 but they have to knock them on their ass after being parried so you can do that ground stab you can do on dismounted enemies
>>
Literally every aspect of ER is worse than Dark Souls 3
>>
>>737256453
Silksong is a masterpiece that catered to the hardcore fans of Hollow Knight.
Elden DOGSHIT Ring is a casualized dumbed down mass appeal open-world slop that betrayed the souls formula.

You are dumb and clueless.

I don't even know how to start the DLC, it just came with the version of the game I bought.

I know this is a troll post but I felt like replying anyways and listing some examples of this being wrong
shields
armor
weapon arts
referencing older games
exploration
weapon affinity
alt attacks based on specific movements

You mean miles of literally nothing to walk through

I think it was a good DLC that managed to be worth it's frankly insane 40$ price point. The final boss was pretty bad, but everything else was good.
>>
>>737254452
The Skibbidi system is solid as a concept, but the frags being hidden away like many of them are is tedious.
I liked how beating Gaius got you access to a bunch of them, and that type of challenge->reward system should have been the normal format for the DLC.

The boss fights were mostly good.
Rellana is particularly really fun. Bayle is the best dragon Fromsoft ever made.
I'm not afraid to admit that Consort Radahn filtered me.

I liked how the regions looked (but the dark shader on the lighting was a bit annoying at times), but I didn't like how empty they were. I understand it was a streamlining thing, where you were basically being told that it wasn't worth your time to explore every corner of the map - its the end of the game, get going.
But at the same time, entire chunks of the map were hidden behind that type of stuff, needing to bust an invisible wall to get to the entire lower portion of the DLC. So you want to keep checking, and sometimes you're rewarded with a massive dungeon, and other times its more barren than the base game.

The new weapons are good.
The Milady is almost perfect, if it did more poise damage it'd be the GOAT.
Messmer's Soldier's Spear might be my favorite weapon in the game.
The Criques are fun, especially with the guard counter tear.
The incantations are good, but the new spells were kinda underwhelming.
Some new armor sets looked great, but they almost all had to be farmed, which sucked.
>>
as usual, it feels like they could have done more, but i did enjoy it.
>>
>>737268292
The ones on either side of the Stormveil gates are good because the gate isn't meant to be a shortcut but an optional harder but quicker pathway. The issue is that it'd be smarter to just add a shortcut ladder that you'd kick down from above or the like.
The others are totally redundant, however.

Doesn't change that Stormveil would be the crown of DS1 or DS2 as a level.
>>
>>737256794
>>positioning has completely disappeared as option in fights as now every enemy is essentially a homing missile which also makes them look like shit (Mesmer's charged spear thrust looks particularly awful due to this)
I found strafing to be particularly good myself.
Rollspam is heavily punished by input reading, so if you could run around anything, it was always for the best.
>>
I want to play it but I really can't be bothered playing Elden Ring all over again.
>>
>>737268530
>shields
>armor
uglier than in DS3
>weapon arts
mostly filler as most are useless and the ones that aren't are so OP they ruin pvp, DS3 already had all the good weapon skills
>referencing older games
i clapped
>exploration
play death stranding if you love walking so much
>weapon affinity
enchantment?
>alt attacks based on specific movements
doesn't exactly make up for the others, DS3 is better at literally almost everything then

Why bother when you can just cheat engine your way to the DLC?
Locking the DLC so late in the game like they did was a total mistake.
Mohg isn't the game's hardest boss or anything, but he has really high area scaling and the Nihil attack discouraging you from fighting him early. While you can rush him, it just feels like shit. Usually its just spamming bleed procs until you win.
No point in coping with that mistake compared to just giving yourself a warp to the DLC.
>>
>>737259625
Placidusax is just beating on an old man but he's carrying around a Dirty Harry Hand Cannon and will one shot you if you don't pay attention and then you're allowed to go back to kicking his ass.
>>
>>737258424
The issue is that they're not really hidden in obvious places and just getting the ones at the obvious crosses will typically leave you below level par.
The golden seeds are attached to literally glowing trees that you can see from a distance.

First of all, that's completely subjective, second I'm talking about how shields and armor actually function in the game you imbecile.
You're not worth talking to.

>>awkward ass teleport to Enir Ilim instead of going up from Belurat
This one baffled me.
I get its a reference to the warp from the Forge to Farum Azula, but it turns what could be a single great climb of the tower of Babel into two separate and more underwhelming sections, where the giant door we're teased with at the start is made redundant.

Belurat as a whole should have been sealed away until you burnt the sealing tree and then you'd have to go from the ground floor to the sky at once.

DS3 is good for fashion in the sense that basically every armor set looks similar so you can swap pieces without anything breaking the flow.
Elden Ring has more unique armor sets, even if they usually only look good as one set.

You can do some fashion souls, but not as much as you used to.
>>
Having to collect the scadutree fragments is the reason why I have completed the base game with all of my six characters but only went into the DLC with two of them.
>>
>>737262292
God research hall was so good... and I agree, the legacy dungeon areas aren't bad but they don't live up to my expectations at all, Stormveil castle is still the best designed dungeon in ER (level design wise, I do prefer other areas due to visuals or lore) somehow, and even then I still have problems with it anyway.
>>
>>737254452
A lot of cool vistas and secrets, but the main dungeons felt undercooked.
Also this >>737262196

>>737254452
Unironically better than than the base game, Its much more condensed and weirder. My only real complain is that it takes too long to be able to play it and also that it probably should have just been standalone so people can play it. It would have allowed the team to be a little more experimental.

It's the same for me. The main game speedrun is too concise for me to even bother with the DLC for NG+ runs anyway. It's just fun to experience once and get DLC items.
