I had an idea for a crime oriented game with yokai themed villians. Like one of the characters was going to be a kappa themed Yakuza crime lord who kills people by hanging them and eating out their assholes as they die, believing that by doing so he's consuming their souls and extending his own life. I tried pitching it to Sega buy they shot it down for some reason.

>>737265072Ghost Wire would have been a lot better if they had ditched the more casual elements like the INSTINCTS vision (forget what they actually called it in game) that let you see enemies through walls and shit, detection indicators, and all that Ubishit tier bullshit and went with a more slow paced Fatal Frame approach where enemies aren't really numerous but even a single one poses a threat. Shit sucks because there's some good elements for a horror game there like the environmental effects when enemies are present (store banners changing colors, digital sign boards glitching out, store shutters rattling, etc.). Fuck, that part where you basically get seperated from the ghost dude, lose all your powers, and have to either use your bow to take down enemies or sneak around them was probably one of the more memorable parts of the game and more in line with what the overall game should have been like.

Folklore kind of falls apart if there’s not a somewhat cohesive narrative behind each creature or oddity The issue with American folklore is that1) most of it is Native American (cool but people get weird about regularly using it?)2) the truly “United States” folklore is stuff like Mothman, Bigfoot, Flatwoods, etc, which don’t really have defined narratives and are more so just “omg I saw this,” so it doesn’t hold weight Folklore needs a story so it can teach a lesson of some kind Native American folklore actually does this (the wendigo and thunderbird, for example)

European and asian folklore/monsters gain depth over time because whenever somebody re-records something about one, they change it a little bit, which is also why you end up with so much conflicting information about them. SCP kind of reminds me of that, where it's a big, collective group writing project that has expanded and changed drastically over many years and many authors.
