My best friend introduced me to persona 6 months ago because he wanted to see what id think because I like columbo, we spent 120 hours making memes and enjoying the story together, I got with Chie and got scammed by doing the 'final' dungeon too early and getting hit with a time skip so I couldn't do all the events, I was so pissed. I love my best friend very much, he's cool and I'm glad he shared it with me

I want to believe that Persona 4 was an unintentional masterpiece, they somehow managed to make a game this good in a mere 2 years and without a design document as well.
But at the same time, this was during the golden years of Atlus, they made so many good fucking games around this time.

The highschool-life part was the most utilized in 4, which is one of the biggest draws to me personally.
The story and main cast is a scooby-doo tier murder mystery, which adds to the charm a great deal if you'd ask me.
The supporting cast also has more chemistry in my opinion, including the arcana side-characters.
On top of these, I personally enjoyed the TV world / fog concepts much more than

Before I begin, I've finished P4, P4G and P5. Haven't touched P3 personally, but experienced it through a friend's playthrough.

The short answer is that it's not janky like P3, and it's got a better overall cast and scale than P5. P5's story was weirdly lower stakes and more self-serving than the other nuPersonas, which makes it fall flat in a lot of areas.

For the longest time the consensus on this board was that 3 was the best, and it drove me fucking nuts. 4 is better in every single way, and is easily the best Persona game.

If Persona 2 wasn't completely broken that would be the best, but alas.

played 4golden first without knowing anything about series. So for first time it really felt nice: good setting, memorable characters, unknown mystery, even gameplay felt fresh.

Then played 5 royal and yes, its good, but its not your first time in that world so u know what to expect.

Now im playing 3 reload, still at the beggining,

At some point you realize that apart from grinding boring fights in tartarus rest of the gameplay is just picking location from world map, chosing job, skill to train or social link, clicking thru few strings of text and do it for every day till the end. No real gamplay apart from walking. After few hours i just googled persona 3 reload guide and there is guides that you can follow day by day to get 100% and anyone can do it because there is no real gameplay to be bad at.

They should really remake entire gameplay portion outside of dungeons in persona 6. Something like proper openworld without loading screens, better movement system, maybe bicycles ect.
Maybe yakuza style minigames for training stats or doing side jobs because now its just choosing what to do, accept it and that is it.

Series is still stuck at ps2 era without any changes. I really need to try metaphor rephantazio

The rural sticks of Japan is more interesting to me than school and urban settings. The story also feels more personable. In 4, you're literally just some kid being forced to live with his uncle, and right as you get there and shake hands with a strange gas station attendant, a bunch of weird, creepy shit starts to occur, as opposed to 5 where you just so happen to get fucked over by a politician who you then so happen to run across again. Parts of 5 are just a little too convenient at times. The relationship between the main characters also feels a lot more natural, whereas in 5 (Keep in mind I've only played vanilla 5 on release, so maybe it changed, but), Haru becomes your friend and then shit hits the fan for her, but it feels like she joins your group with very little relation to everyone else.

Aside from that, I think P4 takes advantage of the setting a bit more to kinda make you and your friends do more interesting things together. Everyone's not on their phones all the time, you're actually sightseeing different parts of this small backwoods town, growing accustomed to the strangeness of it all, how out of date everything is, but learning to appreciate that coziness. In P5, there are honestly so many games that have copied Shibuya at this point that it feels a little overdone, been there done that sorta thing. Even at the time that one location was very popular in Japanese video games, so it's just kinda whatever. I honestly can't think of too many other games that take place in rural Japan for that matter.

I thought P5's story was fucking stupid with the whole changing hearts and "being evil is bad". It felt like it was a story written by teenagers. P4 works better with its setting. Its a bunch of high school kids who only have powers because they stumble into a TV world that they know about and work behind the scenes to solve the mystery (as oppose to saving Japan or some shit). The character's problems were also more relatable and made sense for what a teenage might deal with. Also P4 is the right about of style and the music is kino.

The easy answers are that it was the first one I played and the soundtrack is banging with jap chicks singing english and you can fill in your own lyrics when it's not clear what they're singing. The other answer is that it gets right into it. You move to a new town and learn the area a little bit and then BAM, SOME BITCH IS HANGING FROM A TELEPHONE POLE and then YOU FALL INTO A TV and then THE CHICK FROM YOUR CLASS IS MISSING AND YO UGOTTA GO INTO THE TV TO SAVE HER. It's still a 100 hour RPG but it starts like a race car. P3 literally gives you nothing more than people turn into coffins at midnight and some of them stop feeling and stuff so climb this tower for the first 30 fucking hours. 5 is better than 3 but getting revenge on shitty adults isn't as compelling as solving a murder mystery and actively saving people.

If those had been based on P3 instead then P3 would've been more popular. If those had been based on P1 or P2 then those would've been more popular. Persona is a series whose popularity rose through its secondary media; P5 is the first time where the game itself was popular out of the gate (largely because of the audience built up from the P4 secondary media).
