The game itself was a horizontal step from tsushima in nearly every single way. I disliked the change from combat styles to new weapons, I disliked the changes to the skill trees, I disliked the world feeling more open but more barren (somehow). It felt like they made one change and it was meant directly for an audience that was not me.Legends is worse in nearly every way, which is a MAJOR feat considering legends was just a mindless grind on like 10 maps. They tried WAY too hard to add in extra story beats and other shit people did not care about and make it necessary to playing the levels.

IMO, Yotei has better designed boss fights than Tsushima, but it’s a pretty close call. To me, one of the biggest letdowns was Yotei’s final boss. From a gameplay perspective, it’s an excellent final fight, but the fight isn’t as kino as the final boss of the first game. I think Yotei suffers from “forced kino” in general. I don’t know how else to describe it. It’s like they were trying really hard to outdo Tsushima in terms of the kino factor, but it feels forced outside of a couple of parts (The Ghost stance sequence against The Spider, the fight against The Kitsune, and the opening being the kino moments that actually stuck the landing).
