Played all the halo games for the first time recently
Does anyone else think this is the best one?
>>
No. Because it deliberately is designed to be less Halo-ish than the others.
>>
don't listen to this faggot >>737291897
3 ODST is the best halo game ever and arguably the only one worth playing.
>>
Don't listen to this retard>>737291952 ODST is a semi fun game, but the best Halo game it's not. 1-3 are the holy trinity.
>>
I haven't played ODST but have

1
3
Reach
4
2

Finished all except for 2. 4 is best. 4 turned it around from a homosexual child rape church to videa egg sallants. Should have been more Cortana. But nooooo. Niggers. I hope you are not happy with you are self for saying 4 was bad because it wasn't advertised or bad.

>>
>missions are short, tight, and get straight to the point, generally don't have time to drag like the library or control room
>best singleplayer weapon balance of the bungie series, snipers don't oneshot and there's no BR (although carbine is maybe close)
>only has one genuinely annoying mission, most halo games have at least two
>great soundtrack
>noir sequences are memorable even if there's not much reason to explore

It's one of the tighter games. If you really fuck with Halo' big open-ended sandbox missions where you can do shit like fly straight to the end of a normally hour-long mission I can get not liking it as much
>>
>>737291897
This is literally why it's the best one. It didn't go far enough, they could've made something even better not following so many Halo themes.
>>
>>737291897
It's more halo than reach

Yeah pretty much, it helps that it's about the average solider (or well, the best of the average solider) and they were still written by the core Halo writing team at the time so they still feel like 2000s representations of Aliens marines with a mix of Iraq war thrown in.

It's interesting to be on the backfoot for once, usually you're leading the charge and fucking up the Covenant but this time you're just trying to survive and get out of the city. There's a feeling of desperation that I really enjoyed.

It's a shame the night city sections aren't as stealthy as they could be and ODST still feel like Master Chief instead of slightly stronger marines but overall I think it's a short and sweet game that is great to experience.

I coop'd it with a friend last year and he liked it a lot which was nice because he didn't really like any other Halo game I played with him.
>>
>>737291897
And that's a good thing!
>>
>>737293887
I loved the whole dark rainy city aspect hoooooly shit the atmosphere plus the music was unreal at the time, it was like a precursor to destiny's patrol maps.
>>
>>737291668
I dropped the series with this one. 3 already got under my skin just prior, but this one was just another level of bad.
>>
>>737291668
Reach
Halo 2
ODST
Halo 3
Halo

In order of my enjoyment of the campaigns. No other Halo games exist.
>>
>>737294302
>everything is third person and regularly no attempts to even make the hud unique
HUD stuff is actually ball cancer to do with Halo's tooling, which is why so many mods just don't even do relatively simple shit like new weapon pickup icons.
>halo 1 hud editing
>can't actually see what you are doing, you have to just adjust coordinate and values, then load up the game itself to see wtf you just did
>halo 2 and 3 hud editing
>still can't see what you are doing, but at least the hud changes update in realtime in sapien/tagtest... but it can crash because fuck you
>halo reach and 4 hud editing
>just die at this point honestly, it's the most convoluted. unintuitive system i have ever seen
Even 343i devs themselves weren't pleased by that system because of the "fuck_this_cock_shit.cui" tag in one of the h4 builds.
>>
>>737291668
It's a close second to the first game for me, on the right day they could switch places.
>>737293673
The carbine is fine in the context of that game. It's not very accurate to offset the shield damage compared to the automag, and you have to actually kill enemies in order to get it.
>>
>>737291668
Don't really care for basic bitch human soldiers, at least Reach had cool Spartan-IIIs.
>>
it sucks absolute ass
>>
>>737291668
No but it’s really great. Halo 1-3 are a much better experience overall. That said this was the best iteration of Firefight by far
>>
Where did all these ODST glazers come from?
ODST is the worst of the bungie Halo games by far lmao
>>
>>737300045
Firefight is fun.
>>
>>737293673
>only has one genuinely annoying mission, most halo games have at least two
This post made me realize that Halo Reach doesn't have any annoying missions.
>>
>>737300129
Reach is the annoying mission.
>>
>>737300129
The sabre pilot mission was kinda ass tho, other than that I'd agree. Reach has the most replay value imo.
>>
>>737293027
i hope you know that your post is cringe as fuck
>>
>>737300210
It was like Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) space combat with a Halo skin. It was kino.
>>
>>737300045
ODST was only really hated at launch because of its malicious overpricing, the campaign itself was really fun and firefight was awesome. Now that its MSRP on Steam is 5 dollars and you can find it used in bargain bins for a dollar you can just enjoy the game for what it is.
>>
>>737291668
It was mostly a passion side project with a smaller team at Bungie consisted of the most veteran developers at the time. The enemy encounters, the level design and the overall gameplay is sublime since they had mastered the Halo 3 engine at that point. The game is also a spiritual successor to the TV show Firefly with its cast of actors. The OST is arguably the best Halo score as well

>>
>>737300045
If you were hanging around the right places during launch, you'd have seen lots of impressionable young adults glazing ODST because they felt the saxophone and daytime police procedural writing gave the game a refined air.
Not that it's a bad game, of course, and recent fans probably like it for different reasons because of a general malaise towards things like sub-NCIS-tier dialogue.

Bit of shameless self promoting but I've been whittling away at a """Project""" categorizing and archiving a fuckload of game trailers (2+TB) from back in the day using a site (that's gone offline now) that would reupload the trailers from websites back in the day meaning a lot of them a "high quality" for the time and some in Surround Sound

Just got done uploading the H lettered games like yesterday and there was a fuckload of Halo trailers for the the various games so if you liked some of the trailers from back in the day (or are a Zoomer and never watched them) and want to see some "HQ" (720p) 5.1 audio copies here you go

https://archive.org/details/video_game_trailers_collection_H

When it comes to the Halo stuff it's mostly 3 onwards but there is actually a 5.1 version of a Halo 2 trailer in there
>>
I've never touched 4 onwards

Should I bother or is it completely irredeemable?
>>
>>737301346
You can honestly skip 5 but Infinite is worth a playthrough
>>
>>737301164
I liked it because I thought ODSTs were cool and my favorite gun at the time got reworked into usefulness.
>>
>>737300371
I suppose but the controls and mechanics for piloting the sabre really put me off, least they could do was ripoff Ace Combat or something cause they clearly didn't know what the fuck they were doing.
>>
>>737301346
It's complete putrid dogshit after 4, I'd also include 4 but Cortana is pure sex so it has some redeeming qualities.
>>
>>737291668
i appreciate this and reach for just being
>kill those fucking ayylmaos we're winning this war no matter what
i never liked the flood or the game of thrones "lets see what the squids are up to" storyline.
>>

The only issue I have with reach levels is that they're way too long, par times are in the half hour range, on the other hand odst missions are the shortest, with pars being in single digit minutes

>>
>>737291668
Mechanically no, but the tone, the music, the use of lighting and shadow makes it feel like a more personal and in depth experience even if in hindsight you play a guy going to 5 points to pick 5 things up and put them down.

Defference to Darkness is the best track in any shooter and you all know i am objectively right.
>>
I just didn't like the "shield" system turning the screen red like in CoD. Not only annoying visually but it's also ambiguous in a bad way. Is there any kind of mod that changed it to be a HUD element like CE or Reach?
>>
Humans are Forerunners.
>>
>>737291668
I only ever played the campaign, and multiplayer is so central to Halo that I can't really judge it overall that way, but I definitely remember liking the campaign most of the games I played (2-Reach).
>>
the dialogue is embarrassing. I really liked it as a teenager but as I grew up I reversed all my opinions on the campaigns

>reach held up better than ODST despite finding it disappointing at the time
>halo 2 holds up better than 3 despite finding the cliffhanger annoying

3 is still the best multiplayer but only just and HALO CE is the GOAT but only if you appreciate it's new-agey atmosphere and soundtrack

I end up coming back to Halo 1 the most nowadays.
>>
Disclaimer, I never liked Halo.

Halo 1 is the best. Then Halo 3, then Halo 2.

The rest of Halo you can pretend it doesn't exist.

Also, the pinnacle of the Halo experience is playing Halo 1 campaign couch co-op with an IRL friend.

No, but i could've been the best one..after halo 3.
The whole theme behind this game is that "you're not him", then the game proceed to show how this one guy manage to fight a entire army alone.
It needed more survival elements and the enemies should've been way tougher and made you think twice before jumping towards them, basicaly, the legendary difficulty should've been the normal difficulty but with more stealth game mechanics and multiple ways to solve problems, the squad part could've been solved by simple making it more all at war battle scenarios then 4 retards alone.
>>
>>737307707
Same, played for the first time in 2020.
I can't decide between 1 and 3, but i think i like 3 more overall.
>>

I disagree with your ranking but I agree with
>No other Halo games exist.
That's the real correct choice here.
>>

>No other Halo games exist.
Pretty much, Reach was the last Halo and it tied the series neatly and ended on a perfect note where it looped back to Halo 1.
>>
>>737291668
I would say it’s below 3 and Reach.

The ones in the current collection are from a old Australian website I used to use and it looks like it finally shut down this week (I downloaded the files slowly over the past few years so luckily I got almost everything that could be saved) that used to grab the mp4/mov/wmv/avi/zips and reupload them to the site

https://www.ausgamers.com/

Admittedly I think for the later 8th gen stuff they started using youtube webrips which makes sense because by that point most places just started only putting stuff on youtube and facebook/twitter but the 6th/7th gen stuff appears to be direct downloads off of sites but the vast majority look like they're from the sites

I'm also working on some other trailer archiving with files directly downloaded off Xbox Live and PSN and a "Final" archive pack which will just be me adding trailers I find from Magazine Cover discs and some websites I've been just grabbing HQ file downloads off of over the past few years.

There's definitely some cross over with the files I linked to in the thread and the stuff that will be in the PSN/360 archive but all the sources together should hopefully save a lot of trailers from being soft lost media or only having shit Youtube copies on hand.

The Xbox stuff will be good too because a good chunk of early 360 and even OG xbox trailers were in 5.1 surround sound which obviously can't be heard if you just watch a crappy 20 year old youtube version.

Also just means it's easier for people to find and watch/download trailers for stuff instead of manually downloading youtube crap.

Deferenece to Darkness is a S-tier tune, but as a shooter track? It's great ambience music, but it's not suitable for bullet flying, that's why We're the Desperate Measures exists and is also S-tier.

I did it last year and back in 2011.
You gotta hide under the drydock next to the frigate to recover your shields. The enemy AI is too stupid to shoot at you from that angle. It's just a matter of patience as you pop in and pop out from cover.
>>
>>737312656

i remember reading somewhere that due to a tickrate issue or something the enemy fighter AI is way more aggressive on MCC than the original version, makes the sabre sections a bitch to do

ODST has a vibe the others simply don't. The notion of quiet moments walking near-empty streets in a rainy futuristic city warzone while soft, contemplative jazz plays in the background....in a FPS shooter. Only then is it interspersed with action sequences.

It should have been longer and bigger but Bungie was checked out at that point. As good as it is, its in a lot of ways just a Halo 3 highlight reel.
