Critical hit builds in video games are never fun

sounds like somebody doesn't know how to fish

They are in Noita
>>
>crit res
>crit damage
pure stat bloat, if your game has these go back to the drawing board
>>
builds in general are not fun. it limits you.
hell with dem builds i say. do what you want instead i say
>>
Random crits yes, but if there are ways to ensure a crit then i think its ok

Like in warframe, where it is random but certain weapons can get up to 200% crit chance which applies the crit damage multiplyer twice
>>
>>737292121
noita is not a real game though
>>
>tfw your crits can crit
>>
>>737292043
>Critical hit
Need a better name. Any suggestions? Like coolycool hit?
>>
>>737292789
Visceral Attack
>>
>>737292291
Gunfire Reborn does this with crits and weakspot damage. If you get enough crit chance or weakspot damage, it rolls over from just being a critical hit to an even more critically hit weakspot. You'll if the text goes from orange to purple.

Breddy gud. Doesn't remind me of bloodborne at all.
>blood
>viscera
Peak game design
>>
>>737292789
It's clearly a well-aimed hit and that is the best description
>>
>>737293009
It is, no doubt.
>>

TURBO ASSRAPE!
it conveys the relevant thrill and peril

>>
>>737292043
I agree
it's the worst cancer and it always performs better than everything else
a crit should be something you rarely get and you feel good about it when it happens
instead retarded shit devs always has ways to severely pump up both chance and crit damage mulitpliers/values
>>
>>737293690
>it always performs better
It doesn't, retard
>>
>>737293690
This is only true if you play shit games that have criticial crits or other such retardation and 200% crit chance becomes a baseline for every build because every late game enemy is balanced around the quad damage
>>

>end of WotLK
>Survival Hunter
>hard cap armor pen
>haste soft cap
>crit soft cap
>BiS endgame
Literally just infinitely explosive shotting everything forever always. Top of DPS charts in every single encounter. Just biblical levels of violence inflicted on anything within range.

If you were half intelligent, you became the most potent threat tool in the game, too. I could single handedly force a off tank shift with the power of misdirection. I was always the opening salvo of every single encounter because I could spike initial threat on the main tank beyond what any other alpha strike from any other class was capable of.

God it was such an experience. Absolutely sweaty, fat, and shameful, but an amazing experience. So glad I quit after that expansion ended.

I think it was Warframe that gave you a chance for red crits if you had over 100% but I always found that dumb.

>backstabs result in a guaranteed crit
>backstabs do 7x base damage
>use buff that does extra dmg at the cost of accuracy
>backstabs can't miss
baldurs gate 2 thieves were kino
>>

>guaranteed crit
Not a real crit build
>>
>>737298371
looks pretty real to me
>>
>>737298371
If I grab your balls, does that not consider a guaranteed critical hit?
>>
>>737292127
My man speaks the truth.
>>

>does that not consider
I don't argue with thirdies

Wrong.

When it's all down to RNG yeah it's no fun. RNG has a bell curve in games, and it always sucks ending up being that guy whose game falls on the far left dead-end of the bell.
When players have agency over it like finding & hitting a weak point, it's rewarding.
Shame that static combat games like turn-based or MMOs like WoW have trouble figuring out how to implement crits without just turning to pure RNG.
Maybe they could attach it to specific abilities and/or some sort of charge that builds up, like if a rogue in WoW had a guaranteed crit with max charges.
But yeah, there's different ways to go about it. Doing it the way in your pic is the least fun way, but the concept isn't the problem, it's how it's done that is.

CoC cast on crit Forbidden Rite Cyclone Occultist was one of the most fun ways of playing PoE for me. Maximum comfy right-click spin to win.
But that was so long ago, I doubt that build even exists anymore I haven't played PoE for almost two years.
>>
>>737292043
I don't mind them, and can be pretty fun having them set up to take down bosses quickly, and have them potentially tied to dodge so your essentially invincible even in a horde.
That said, I'm a spectacle kind of person, so I like my explosion/AoE/chain builds and watching hordes die quickly. Bonus points if there are also panic mechanics, environmental damage, lingering partical effects, unique death animations and alaternative status effect animations like being frozen in ice, turned to ashes/charred bones, exploding into chunks, dissolving into a puddle, appearing weak due to poison, zombifaction process/etc.

Septuple? I played assassin and never dealt 400 damage. 392 divided by 7 is 56. Wait a second, did you just fish for crits for this thread?
>>
>>737292783
I don't care for the game but deleting someone via PA's 450% crit was one of the only things that made playing Dota 2 worthwhile.
>>
>>737292043
That's because most games treat crits as RNG

In reality a critical attack would be attacking a weak spot of something
>>
>>737299309
>it always sucks ending up being that guy whose game falls on the far left dead-end of the bell.
And it always feels good to be on the other side. Luck is a skill, just get luckier. If you can't, then don't make a crit build, it's not like it's forced on you. Leave it to the real men who can handle some gambling.

thats an ancient image. but for huge backstabs you wanna use the staff of the ram and use kai as kensai/thief, or assassin for the extra multiplier. think there's other tricks too probably
>>
>>737292043
2x Grave Robber plus Man-at-arms plus Occultist in DD is fun.
>Grave robbers at the back
>Stack speed so the one at the back always goes first
>Man-at-arms shield back also shuffles forward
>4 lunges in every fight
>Crits and stress heals abound
>>
>>737301441
Certainly, one can easily reach 1000s. I strongly dislike power gaming. On the contrary, I love weak characters much more. Overcoming adversity brings fun.
>>
>>737301949
>ugh stop playing the game correctly
>>
>>737302656
Oh, I'm sorry, officer
Danger 5, probably.
