Hoyo does follow a formula, but it works so why wouldn't they? Try wuthering waves. Despite the shit it gets, patch 1.3 and onwards it dodges most of your issues. Just make it through to a place called the black shores and you'll probably enjoy the rest.

The opposite of self insertion and something only games can really do reliably. Really, try WuWa. Between the three "best" gacha right now of ZZZ, WuWa, and HSR it's got the best use of that synthesis in particular, even if it has weaknesses the other two don't.

ZZZ golden age was Jane+Seth, while the stuff with Miyabi really felt like a proper epilogue where you unlock the "ultimate character." I think AoD was an adorable "return to form" for ZZZ and I'm happy to see it moving back into being whacky wahoo urban hijinks, but I think they need to focus more on making Absolute Creatures than shit like Promeia.
