Am I the only who thinks Nintendo is pivoting away from Switch 2 already? It's getting outsold by a six year old console that's had multiple price hikes and they doesn't seem to be trying to save the situation at all.There's no games announced with a release date beyond Yoshi, and aside from Mario Kart and Donkey Kong none of the games released have been from their's usual A-list franchises, there hasn't even been a general direct since last year and it's the biggest gap between them we've ever had. Even what is likely to be their biggest game this year, Tomodachi Life LTD, is just a Switch 1 game with no Switch 2 version or even a Switch 2 patch. Sure, it's playable on Switch 2 via backwards compat but that's it.I get the feeling that Nintendo has already decided that the Switch 2 is not their future and the raving success they were convinced it was going to be and are going back to focusing on Switch 1 as a stopgap until they figure out their next move.

The Switch 2 has sold well but a large portion of that is its launch. 6 million consoles were sold in 7 weeks and that's due to the fact they didn't have any shortages that you'd usually see for a console. It also got its holiday much sooner than most consoles. When we look at the holiday, it sold less than what the Switch 1 did and had way more stock in Western markets to the point you could get one $50 off. Mind you, for its first few months on the market Switch 2 was outselling the PS5 each month. Once it got to 2026 the PS5 has been outselling the Switch 2 and that's with the fact that the console is pretty old. Tendies are assuming the Switch 2 will follow the same trend as the Switch 1 did. Now, that's impossible because there wont be a COVID boost but even still, its likely it wont follow the normal console trend of peaking in Year 3 or 4. We may have already past the peak year for Switch 2. This isn't too crazy to think. The peak year for the 3DS was its second year and the peak year of the Wii U was its first. Right now, Nintendo has nothing for 2026 except Yoshi, Fire Emblem and MAYBE Splatoon. Pokemon has been pushed back into 2027 and outside of Japan it wont really push much (see Pokopia, 50% of its sales were from Japan alone which is where its already doing well). Just because it had a good launch doesn't mean it will keep selling, and seeing how its flopping in western markets post launch and how there are no new games to change its fortune anytime soon, there is a good chance that we're already past the peak and it will start declining.
