Ambitious, proactive, quick on his feet, sneaky. While every other assassin is ‘the unending war against the dark’, Kenway is all ‘I want money’ and it grooves. The amount of mini games was just right and I’m surprised and pleased they put in a whaling mini game.PS3 era graphics still hold up. Ship design and aesthetic were very well done. Sea shanties are cool and hearing your crew sing them is cool. Too bad most of the songs are gatekept by floating musical scores. The MehShip combat starts to get boring after a while. At first it starts off fun but by mid game its very repetitive and nothing new comes of it. The pirate fleet mini game was a decent time waster though. Big collectathon, which is a staple of the series. Great if you’re into that sort of thing but obviously not for everyoneThe BadTraveling times. As I get older the more I dislike traveling from point A to B and there is a lot of that in Black Sails. IMO the more time spent traveling the less time you’re playing the game. The movement tech is super jank. Too many times I’ve leapt the wrong way or Kenway stops moving due to an imperceptible rock, or eave. Escort missions. You like walking around following a person at their walking pace? Be prepared to do that with a ship as well, more than once. Edward Kenway is the man. While other assassins require monastic training, Kenway does by nature. The Leap of Faith is a keystone tenant to the Assassins? Kenway does without thinking. In the first hour alone you chase an Assassin to ground, bluff your way into the Templars, then kill several Assassins ambushing you. Add on top of that a colorful cast of famous pirates all converging in one area each with their own spotlight and you have a pretty decent setting. 7/10 game, would recommend.
