>>737326624Me2 has done a lot of damage to what could've been a good franchise.
>>737328512But Me2 is the best in the series?
>>737328609Everything wrong with ME3 started with ME2
>>737328609>neither the RPG elements of 1 nor the combat of 3>the story has basically no relation to 1 nor 3it's like they wanted a spinoff, but then retconned it in the last moment and added the Harbinger DLC, and added his voice to the bugmen when he takes over
>>737328609It's a shallow game with barely any complexity or strategy. Just equip best weapon and shoot shit while picking the blue/red options to win.
>>737328512>>737328762I like ME1 better and I wish the sequels had kept more of its RPG elements instead of ditching them in favor of becoming more streamlined cover-based shooters, but I don't really get the sense that it killed enthusiasm for the series the way ME3 did with its wet-fart ending. >>737328854>the storyIt was good though. 3 was a continuation of the story but that doesn't really matter because none of it is memorable at all.
Gaming is such slop now that somehow even ME3 is now considered to be a good game.
>>737329248Of those 3 games, it had the best combat. 2 is in the weird middle ground of dropping the RPG aspect, but anything it did 3 just does better. Being a biotic feels like shit in ME2 because the barrier/armor system not letting you use powers.
>>737329083>don't really get the sense that it killed enthusiasmYeah, obviously, but it laid the foundation for ME3's failure by sidequesting for an entire fucking game creating the worst parts of ME3 with Cerberus as its own sovereign power instead of deniable schizo glowies after effectively retconning everything you did in the first game out of existence.Ask yourself this. If ME1 did not exist, how much of ME2 would need to change?
>>737329504Fine but I'm not really interested in comparing the merits of two shitty games.
>>737329248In five years Andromeda will be considered an underrated gem
>>737329248It's far far down the slophole to the point where ME3 is remembered by late-comers as a true masterpiece that made all other games look less good in comparison. The reality was that in 2012 ME3 was almost RE6 levels of poorly received and only marginally accepted despite of the ending by anyone but biodrones as a "really good game". Most people were complaining more than they praised it, and a few idiots liked it but it was generic praise like "Omg it's so good" or "Dude Mass Effect!!! 3 is so good!!! I paid 60 dollars and got my money's worth!!!!11"But in reality most really hated it. It was 2012, and it was possibly the worst hyped up release since Halo 2 was met with a lot of groans in 2004. In reality, 3 just isn't a good game. It's a mid AAA game, and a really bad Mass Effect game, but zoomers were only 12 and thought it was great, like Zeldafags think TP was anywhere near as good as OoT or ALttP in 2006.
>>737326624"Ah yes...'refugees'."
>>737329083>It was good though>Reapers are immortal machines that hibernate deep in dark space and have created elaborate way to return to the galaxy using a mass relay>stopping them from coming via said relay is the end goal of the first game>lmao nvm, it takes them about 2 years of space flight to come to the edge of the galaxyIt was awful is what it was
>>737328512Actually it was just ME3.Franchise is perfectly fine until you're about 1 hour into the third game, and a lot of it was avoidable even with 2 "not really moving the plot forward".Fans lack imagination, and fans think everything has to be a cliché.
>>737330778nah me2 is still the worse, just remove me2, and the franchise doesn't change at all, nothing literally happens
We have dismissed that claim.
>>737328762Everything wrong with ME3 happens in the first hour of ME3 and has literally nothing to do with anything they wrote in ME2. It also has nothing to do with anything they didn't do in 2 that they should've done.It only has to do with 3 having retarded low-IQ writing in the form of Mac replacing Drew and taking sole reign as the Lead Writer, and in coming up with his own spin on where the story should pivot to, he came up with some retarded scenes that reestablish the characters poorly, have uncharacteristically corny dialogue, and introduces genre-breaking elements like the Child (like it's an M Night Shyamalan film all of a sudden) and emphasises PIANO = SAD in a way not even ME2 does with its little piano jingle as Shepard's floating corpse falls into the MASS EFFECT 2 screen title.Something is just off with ME3 and it's nothing that has any continuity with 2 that does that. It's a style and a mood shift. It's a genre failing, and Mac just being an overall empty-brained writer whose best attempts only come across as "wannabe" and not the type of movie-isms he's clearly trying to emulate. It sucks because it sucks, on a standalone level.
>>737331027>(like it's an M Night Shyamalan film all of a sudden)who could have seen that plot twist eh?
>""""""holocaust""""""
>>737330893ME2 is the best one. It has cool MTV characters that catch your eye. Striking musical motifs, awesome vibrant colored visuals, and better cinematography and really paints the tapestry of the world in ways that previously was only something you could read about in the codex. As far as characterizing upon, and executing on, the Mass Effect's writing and world, ME2 is unmissable just for that alone. I don't care that it doesn't do much with the ball of the "Reaper LOTR plot" that's waiting to be kicked, and the Collectors/Suicide Run was honestly fine. I even went "woah" at the end when Harbinger is seen as it leaves the General, confirming that you have kinda been going head to head with a Reaper for the whole game, and unlike Saren it's not an autonomous agent who lost his mind without realizing it, but a literal puppet-army of proxies who are enacting the will of a Reaper who is solely trying to manage their abduction plan in spite of Shepard's intervention. In a storyline where the Reapers don't yet arrive, ME2 is a great continuation of 1 in the absence of a real invasion. And 3's failings literally has nothing to do with any of these details.
>>737326624Ah, yes, the Volus shadow govermentLet me tell you something Shepard, my people have been allies with the Volus for centuries, and I can say that we don't have any greater ones. I have heard these baseless accusations of hidden influence for as long as I've been alive. Quite frankly, I thought you a smarter man, than to believe in such conspiracy theories. Volus have acquired their wealth through pure meritocracy and sharp mind for commerce. What will I hear next? Volus poisoning the air with ammonia? Selling Council secrets to the Terminus Systems? Spare me!
>>737330702The whole dark space thing and ignoring how big space really is, necessitating the relays existing and then turning the reapers into whack a mole was poor. The whole playing through me2 and me3 you could just feel the decline in quality and passion the first had. They really did kill off the potential for the next great science fiction franchise with 3 games.
>>737326624>Ah yes, "Rapers"
>>737331160We have dismissed the overinflated numbers.
>>737326624Shepard realistically NEVER recovered from this.
