PS2 THREAD NOW

WHAT PS2 GAMES DID YOU PLAY
>>
ask your mom lol
>>
>>737374040
I recently played through vice city using a PS2 emulator, really enjoyed it outside of the haitian gang sniper mission for some reason it was really difficult to aim because the reticle moved way too fast using my xbox controller and I couldn't fix it so I had to switch to KB&M just for that part.

I am playing trough this classics list
currently on yakuza 2. other i played either the pos3 version or on og hardware many years ago
>>
>>737375413
i tried to play Yakuza 1 and I thought it was not that great. I keep getting sucked into playing diff yakuza games for the atmosphere but the gameplay is always so bad I cant finish it
>>
>>737374725
It moves crazy fast for me too, don't remember how it was on a real PS2 anymore

Champions of Norrath: Return to Arms. The only game I can think off that's slow-paced like Diablo/PSO but not rollslop like Monster Hunter
>>
>>737375869
as for yakuza i recommend you play the games with the restored patch. it uses the japanese dub and the dialog is much closer to what characters say.
as for the first game it is indeed mega jank and flawed, overcommitting usually leads you to getting knocked down and even with quick rise and parries it is still a difficult thing to avoid because the timing is so strict. I recommend getting as much experience as possible in combat and doing the komaki training missions to learn new moves and to also figure out where the secret weapon store is so you can buy protective gear against guns, after that the game is mostly a breeze aside from a few boss fights, for those i recommend always carrying at least one decent weapon and a lot of health packs. second game improves the combat drastically and it is way more fun to play trough.
>>
>>737374040
God Hand
Robot Alchemic Drive
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks
>>
>>737376131
to me this and balder's gate are just the lego versions of actual cRPGs. Just basic coop hack and slash. only fun with friends.
>>
>>737376213
I did use the restored patch. I got as far as the underground hobo base with the guy with all the security cameras. by that point the story was already fucking terrible and slow but that silly shit made me think this game is retarded.

Also the combat is just fucking awful. Probably the least fun beat-em-up combat on the ps2, even worse than The Bouncer.

>>737375413
Also definitely Kings Field The Ancient City and Shadow Tower Abyss should be your next playthroughs. Absolute class games. Unless you are filtered by japjank.
>>
>>737374040
Playing ZoE2, for how much everyone jerks this title off it's not geally that good, makes me wish for a remake of it tho.
Fix the atrocious camera system, make the subweapons also add up passives and make them upgradeable with a charm/energy system, re-do the english VA and put in the option to switch to the JP one, and make the story also be about Dingo's survivor guilt and being fucked by every side instead of being geopolitics with a snarky character and you'll have a great game.
>>
>>737376538
i have a physical copy of this game. Never even touched it cause I realized I dont like Kojima or mechs

Going through this on pcsx2.
What was the reception back then? It feels like such a downgrade in the combat and exploration just to cram in some half assed stealth and the cringe evil Prince.
>>
>>737375413
Jak 3 is the best in the series, Raymen 3 is pure kino, Katamari is on PC but it's virtually no different.
>>
>>737376131
This game was kino and I always liked the monster and player character models in it.
Would love to see a full blown mmo use them, this is what the updated EQ player models should have looked like in luclin.
>>
>>737376605
doesn't feel like either.
Cutscenes are short enough to just feel like a justification for moving from setpiece to setpiece, story is more focused on the bigger picture instead of an analysis of the single character struggle within the story, the mechs move more like flying action characters than bulky machines.
I'd say go for it, you'll be dropped into action not 2 minutes in the game if you skip cutscenes.
The only Kojima ahestetic is the kind of green, wide, wireframe-like UI.

not sure if ill play jak3 since jak2 was really not fun. i didnt even finished it.
>>737376506
depends entirely on how jank it is.
>>737376379
never played the bouncer so i can't compare but i personally don't think it is that bad. Yakuza games do have a shitload of coincidences and melodrama, it is part of the charm.
>>
>>737377086
Jak 2 was a low point despite everyone telling you otherwise, feels like they just tried to copy GTA but using their already enstablished IP, Jak 3 is still on this like but makes the game much more colorful and fun.

Why are the Ratchet games so demanding?

I liked the difficulty and how enemies had their various attack patterns that you could learn to block, backstep or simply just sidestep with regular movement. It was almost soulslike so I still managed to enjoyed it solo

Yeah I played both Y1 and Y2 instead of Kiwami and the main problem for both is the main plot not even the side missions.

The clunky combat gets better after leveling up; Y2 has better combat but optional bosses are sponges.

Just play Y0 if you want atmosphere; Kuze + 80s + Majima as playable character pushed the game up

I just hope Y3 main plot won't be as bad

>>737377847
aside from zero no yakuza game ahs a great plot. it is just mediocre to bad.

you should try playing the psp yakuza games.
they were made by the def jam ffny devs and it is basically an adventure mode of that game. the story does have melodrama and many coincidences but it is miles better than your average yakuza game. the second game is more of the same but with a slightly worse story and many gameplay changes.
Much like the restored yakuza games they are translated and can be fully played aside from maybe a few mini games.

I replayed True Crime NYC this month and even though i love it as a kid, i can see why this game disliked by huge chunk of people. The map is too huge and driving is annoying. You die and fail mission so easily, even more so on 2 missions that force you to shoot at vehicles while being gun down by the entire mafia / gangster / cults. The song selection is fine i guess. Imho the martial arts and just how many criminal case you join in still the best so far. Hell i don't even realize i cleared all the fighting club mission before i took down any of the three big criminal gangs.
tl;dr i get it now why people hating on this game now, i still like it.
>>
>>737380472
Streets of LA is far better, though I remember having one of the early issue copies that had the softlock/save bug so I could never fully beat it.
>>
>>737380472

>>
>>737374040
I haven't touched it in a little while, but the last things I played were Yakuza undub, Dynasty Waariors 2, and I chipped away some more at getting 100% completion in Gundam VS Zeta Gundam
>>
>>737377086
>jak2 was really not fun.
That game is very definition of artificial difficulty. I dont get praise it gets some missions are insanely retarded. Jak 3 is literally Jak 2 gameplay wise but with better pacing, balance and such.
>>
I'm trying to play SMT digital devil saga but my mind goblins are getting in the way. I'm getting lost and going back and forth around these dungeons, getting too many random encounters and then dying after like 30 minutes without a save.
I don't want to use a guide and I don't want to use save states but I'm thinking its the only way I'll be able to get through the game

>>
>>737375413
People onions about halo or Metroid prime but rachet and clank being the unofficial Sony shooting rep of that gen mogged them desu
Up your arsenal and deadlocked are just more fun
>>
>>737385290
I would hardly even compare Metroid Prime to those two, its strength lies in its exploration, I do think Halo and Ratchet is a more fair comparison, but that is still a hard one since Halo is telling a serious dramatic story while Ratchet is mostly for fun.
>>
>>737385404
For sure they are different things but I just mean baseline if you're in the 6th gen these are the games you were playing if you wanted to shoot something with like time splitters being the multiplatform meet up

>>737377217
The jak games are fine, 2 is only really difficult from how awkward it is to shoot. No strafe and lock on targeting. It also had an empty open world you walk back and forth in and very few levels overall so it got tiresome.
Had some fun cutscenes and some high point missions tho
Jak 3 is probably overall better if you just ignore it's fucked balancing.
I think my main issue with these games is how little they connect. Outside of like 2 cutscenes you can ignore jak 1 while playing jak 2, and despite 3 being a direct sequel to jak 2 the main villain is just some guy who the game pretends always existed and the game takes place in some random desert with a noble savage angle despite the fact your introduction to the savages is combat arena to the death.
Extremely messy but I suppose least it's interesting
Jak x is pure kino tho
>>
>>737385943
Jak X didn't have the same magic CTR did but it was still pretty fun.

Slowly because I'm an autist who has to talk to every NPC multiple times, including checking back after story events in case their dialogues changed. And my Japanese is still not so good, so I'm reading slowly.

I have Ape Escape 2 and 3 outside of this picture and it's missing a few obvious gems like SA and MGS2, but overall I think it's a pretty good list.
>>
>>737386172
Beginning is information overload because it needs to make sure you understand the mechanics of the game. Also its very railroaded to start the game as well so its easy to sort of give up on the game. Once you get past that, its pretty good
>>
>>737377064
It's a rail-like shooter with lock-on targeting but you can turn and operate in a 360 degree arena or hallway. It feels like a 3D pseudo shmup with anime drama and the weird ass plot to go with it.

both the PC port and PS3 version have a slightly different kairi model cause they lost it or lost the source code or whatever so you're playing an objectively better version
also non-JP PS2 KH1>Final Mix simply because the recolors suck ass and so does synthesis with its retarded changes

PS2 kairi is objectively cuter, plus you can see her (and selphie's) panties only in this platform.
The recolors and synthesis being worse (i guess because there's a lot more shit to craft before you can get ultima?) is subjective.
