I thought it was okay, reminded me a lot of the shadow hearts games conceptually. Of the gen 7 JRPGs it's pretty much top 4 by virtue of not being SO4 or infinite undiscovery.
So you have vesperia, eternal sonata, blue dragon, then this.

I think a lot of the praise comes from recency bias, because basically every JRPG that's come out since has been dog shit, so it's the last "Good" one they remember.

It's a great game, if a bit simple and straight-forward. It's better if you enjoy the memory short stories, which I think are really suited to older gamers. I played this last year, and some of those made me actually tear up, although I'm a dad and shit now so they hit way harder than they did when I was a kid and first played it.

The battle system is a little too simple, and there are a few really difficult bosses but the game is otherwise pretty easy. So if you beeline it, the gameplay feels kinda shitty but it's a lot easier if you do all the completionist extra stuff, which can make the game feel pretty damn slow.

Not a single character in the party has a personality outside of Kaim and Jansen and the designs for everyone are shit, the mortal party members are garbage as is the balancing of the game in general, the story is laughably bad after splurging basically its entire quality load within the first 2 minutes of the game, looks like shit, plays like shit with laughably clunky and unresponsive adventuring, constantl glacial pace random battles, the game is excruciatingly linear outside of Disc 4 where it suddenly opens up so you get to go around on your ship doing like 1.5 side quests and some insanely overtuned mega giga endgame dungeon which is just mostly more of the same insufferable "puzzle" horseshit as in the worst parts of the game, and then finally the game just makes you listen to the same fucking 3 tracks on repeat almost any time anything happens in the game. By the end of the game I wondered if im experiencing some actual parody with how bad the story and villain were

Im pretty sure when people are praising this game theyre literally talking about the thousand years of dreams short stories shoved into the game and like specifically some extremely specific audiovisual things in the game, but its just an insanely shallow time wasting slog as far as being an actual videogame goes

I just remember being bored at the funeral and some other scenes.
The music paired with the reading went really well, and the text in them wasn't so unrelatable to make me want out ASAP.
It was okay. Sena(?) reuniting with her son was pretty good. I learned the word "impertinence" from this game lol
I got this game along with Enchanted Arms and had much more fun with Enchanted Arms despite its strange story, cutscenes, anime dialogue, and animations.

I thought it was okay, but I absolutely despised the kids and never ended up finishing it.
