Finally played it since it was one of my dad's favorites and thought it was ludokino.I'll be playing some other point and click games from the era and was wondering if you guys have some recommendations for some really good sci-fi ones as well?
>>737380417For scifi there is one called majestic I think? It's been so long I don't really remember much about it though
holy fuck i haven't seen this game in so long, this picture was such a blast to the past
>>737380417Space Quest 6
>>737380417Have you tried Full Throttle yet? That was my favorite at the time alongside The Dig.
>>737380738Nope, this is literally the third one I am playing from that era after Monkey Island and Phantasmagoria. I've added everything mentioned to the list and will take a look at them, Full Throttle and Majestic seem really cool.
>>737380417>some recommendationsMonkey Island 1/2/3Broken Sword 1/2The old Indian JonesDay of the TentaclesFull ThrottleSam & MaxGrim Fandango>sci-fi onesI have no mouth and I must scream
>>737381659>I have no mouth and I must screamOh yeah thanks for reminding me for this. It has always looked very cool, but I will probably read the actual short story first just to compare them.
>>737380417I don't think there is anything else at that level. It was the only real big budget game at the time, and that's because it started as a scrapped Hollywood movie that they needed to salvage. Maybe Myst I guess.
>>737380417>point and click games from the>sci-fi ones Dune I? It's vaguely point&click-ish.Not many sci-fi point & click, I'm afraid.
>>737380417Beneath a Steel Sky comes from that same era of point-and-clicks. Different style of sci-fi though; dystopian future city rather than mysterious alien stuff
>>737382234Is this that Dune game that was a really early RTS style game or is that a different one?
>>737382489Dune 1 has some proto-RTS elements. Dune 2 is considered one of the first proper RTSs
The Star TRek games, 25th Anniversary, Judgement Rites and A Final Unity are good. Also, not scifi, but you have to play LOOM.>>737382484And it's free on Steam.
>>737382489Dune II is the one that is the effective root of the entire RTS genre.Dune I is a light GSG played in first person. The two have not much in common, and got developed in parallel by different studio due to some confusion/shenanigan about the IP rights.Banger soundtrack in both tho.
That puzzle. You know the one.FUCK that puzzle.
Point n' Click more like Guess n' Click
>>737382845The turtle one? It's very easy, the solution is in the same room.
>>737382845Actually I'm not 100% sure which one you are referring to because this game had some bs moments but not strictly a bs puzzle. Are you maybe referring to like one of the big ass moon logic leaps the game excepts you to make cause yeah those were shit, but the actual puzzles were fun.
>>737382484Also Primordia was a nice, modern take on point 'n' clicks, while still remaining faithful to the older style. You're a robot dude in a post-apocalyptic world where humans are all dead.
>>737382591>>737382745Oh good to know, thanks for the info. I've always actually meant to try the one that set the roots for RTS too so I guess I will play them both now.Do the games except you to be familiar with the books and lore?
>>737382925Every time I play this it takes me at least 3 tries to get it right because some part is not EXACTLY where it needs to be
Stop flooding the board with your gay fucking movie games.
>>737382484>Beneath a Steel Skyunderrated game, even though it's pretty known and popular. Hope some shit youtuber makes a video essay so plebs on vee can spam threads about it with borrowed opinon.
>>737382845>that goat>the only time-sensitive puzzle in the entire gameREEEEEEEEE, I was doing the right thing all along!
>>737383136NEVER
>>737383042Primordia is one of my favorites, old and new
>>737380417Frederick Pohl's GatewayTorins PassageIndiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis Day of the Tentacle
>>737383740and Toonstruck
>>737380417The Dig's OST is so damn good
Rise of the Dragon is scifi/cyberpunk dystopia, and breddy gud.
>>737384043Everything about its presentation left a really strong impression on me, not surprised this game blew my dad away in the 90s.I have always been more into arcade design or RPGs, so it is my first time stepping into the genre more. The list is filling fast with all the recommendations lol.
>>737383798More like Troonstuck.
>>737385795>more like troonsucker (GIWTWM)
>>737383053>Do the games except you to be familiar with the books and lore? Both games rape the lore to various degrees, just in different ways. So no, you don't need to have read the books, you can roll with just what the games throw at you.If you need an ELI5 on the overall setting:>Technological level is half sci-fi & half medieval because mankind got 99.999% exterminated by an AI revolt millennia ago, and has since made even *suggesting* using computers an immediate execution>Warfare is mostly melee (Dune II ignore on that one completely) due to shields being absurdly cheap & effective but only against fast-moving objects - dagger goes in, 180mm APFSDS shell bounce>Slight supernatural elements (witches, weapon masters, mentats, etc) are due to mankind needing to find ways to make human brains&bodies pick up the jobs of computers and robots, to various level of success and side-effects>Spice is the most valuable shit in the universe because it can unlock mankind's supernatural prescience, which is the only way to use FTL travel without a supercomputer (also extend lifespan so any rich fuck want at least a few drops of it)>Spice only grow on a single shithole in the entire galaxy, so the Empire tend to filter who is even allowed to attempt harvesting it - every faction volunteer because even a 0.001% share on the exports make you rich as fuck>The Imperial House stay in power due to their troops being absolute terror on the battlefield - they are not completely invincible however and not very numerous, so the Emperor is quite paranoid about upstart factions
>>737380816Also dont lseep on Indiana Jones and the Fate Of Atlantis. Another absolute classic.
>>737387319Oh damn, I actually played this a little as a kid lol just remembered. I don't think I got too far and its a great time to restart it.
>>737380417How long did it take you to realize you should hold the button
>>737380816You absolutely must play Full Throttle, then. It's fucking mandatory mid-90s pc gaming.
Play Rex Nebular & the Cosmic Gender Bender.Make sure to play on the hardest setting. It has the greatest puzzle involving a hamburger. Ever.
>>737380417If you want scifi themed ones, look at the Tex Murphy series.
No one is mentioning Space Quest. They're bullshit but they're scifi, so they fit op's request.
>>737380417Man, great game, I can still hear that dumbass Ludger getting his arm sawed off. Probably one of the best straight sci fi games from that era.>YEAAAGH EAAAGHHH... EAAAAGHHFull Throttle, Bladerunner, the Tex Murphy games, Siberia (sort of alt history sci fi), The Longest Journey (more fantasy but it's set in a sci fi future), Starship Titanic (jokey Douglas Adams project, you'll need to get some cheap 3D glasses for one puzzle). Also seconding Fate of Atlantis, The Broken Sword series, and Grim Fandango as classics that aren't sci fi. FoA is cool to replay because it has three pretty different routes through.Art wise Neverhood is fun because it's all claymation. Toonstruck because it's got Christopher Lloyd gurning with cartoon characters. The Last Express is a rotoscoped murder mystery on a timer because of the train schedule.
>>737389474>sq4 was literally my first pc game and THIS is what I was immediately subjected to
>>737389474Wasn't Space Quest one of the first replies though? >>737380693
>>737388091Shame the sequel got scrapped. Looks like Lucasarts was far along in the development too.
>>737380417Wadjet Eye Games makes a bunch of old point and click style games, last one I played was Unavowed, which was pretty good.
>>737391051>Soundblaster screams
>>737392019Gotta hand it to Sierra installers. They had a knack for getting the settings right the first try. Which meant that the scream was extra extra horrible.
