The area design of Command Mission is very similar to Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter. The game world is hyper-linear, being composed primarily of a bunch of interconnected corridors. While you can take a few detours, there isn't really going to be much variation in how different players progress through the game, in stark contrast to earlier JRPGs which usually opened the world up and allowed people to deviate somewhat from the "optimal" path. The combat system of Command Mission feels a bit like a hyper-simplified version of FFX. Personally, I found it kinda bland and not very memorable. The story was whatever, the characters are all one-dimensional, and there were no interesting character interactions. X is a boring protagonist who doesn't have worthwhile interactions with literally anyone. He doesn't have a compelling story, despite being the central protagonist. He doesn't have strong interactions with the antagonists either. He's dull as fuck.Overall, I don't particularly feel like Command Mission is underrated. It's a game that can only be appreciated by the ever-dwindling MMX fanbase, but has no legs outside of that. No one who doesn't already love MMX would have any interest in this game, but not all MMX fans would particularly enjoy playing a hyper-linear JRPG. The two genres are too different.

You know how in some stories, there's an extraordinarily advanced precursor species who left behind insanely advanced tech that the people of the present can't fully replicate or even reverse engineer? Ancient tech that's many times more advanced than what the current society can create on their own. Even if they CAN replicate it, it's inferior to he originals.Light and Wily are those precursors. X and Zero are their precursor tech. It took everyone two hundred years to catch up to what they created, and even then, there are flaws. Copy-X is supposedly a perfect copy of X, but even if you can perfectly replicate the hardware, the software is in another league entirely. On paper, he should have a limit. Eventually, X will reach a point that Zero can never keep up with. But the scary thing about him is that he's never reached that point. Even Awakened Zero apparently wasn't his full power.
