>one of the best Yakuza games in YEARS
>Probably one of the best pirate action games since AC:Black Flag
>Feels like an actual adventure even though the story is retarded.

I wish more games could be like this. I just got to it on the backlog and I'm glad I played it. I hope they do a Ninja game next. I know they already did a Samurai game.
>>
I enjoyed it too. Dunno why the reception seems generally negative.
>>
>>737404007
I liked it too. People are down on the turn based combat in 7 and 8, but between Pirate Yakuza and Lost Judgement the real time combat has gotten really good. Definitely like it more than 3 Kiwami.
>>
>>737404112
People thought it was "wacky" or that it leaned too much into the absurdity instead of it being a serious crime drama with touches of absurdity. Also some people just hate to hate.

I will say though I played this game before playing Infinite Wealth and now I have no desire to play IW even though it's finally available on Gamepass
>>
>>737404195
Yeah I've heard 3 Kiwami was trash, although desu I always felt 3 was the weakest game out of the original 6 (even though fans will get mad for saying that and tell you 4 was the worst)

I think turnbased combat is fine, I just don't know where else they can take the series. I know Brazil and Peru have a lot of Japanese people so maybe there lol

I'm happy with the game. I wish it was harder. And a "Survival" mode with a hunger/thirst meter and maybe improved upkeep for the ship would be nice. Or even a Legend Difficulty. I don't mind the turn based I just think it needs better difficulty scaling. Or any scaling at all. Even if it was optional settings to have Ichiban solo fight during substories. Or having it be that you gain the Jobs from mentors ala Yakuza 0. I feel they left so much cool stuff on the table and they never are ever gonna use it. Ichiban is a good as dead because they wanna pander to the fucking faggot worshippers by making Mine the new main character. Fucking why? WHY?
>>737404239
IW had it's good points but...We don't need another game like it. But don't worry. Because we are never getting an Ichiban game again.
>>
>>737404007
How many years? It's not a great feat to be better than Yakuza 8. I wouldn't call it better than The Guy Who Got Rid Of His Identifier and it's definitely not better than Yakuza 6.
>>
>>737404419
>Because we are never getting an Ichiban game again.
Haha good to hear. I mean yeah I liked the first one because of COVID and it was something different, but I like the action games.

Yeah I played on Professional. I barely had to use healing items outside of a few areas. Some of the pirate ship battles were difficult if you didn't upgrade your ship but none of them felt too difficult.

>The main story is a generic pirate treasure hunt you've seen many times before.
>The story itself doesn't make any sense because you have people in literal frigates trolling around Hawaii and even opening fire on Hawaii itself and this somehow doesn't attract the coast guard let alone the US navy.
>Continues the trend of making stuff like the giant squid as something that exists in universe instead of being a substory where it maybe exists and people are starting to get sick of the fantasy nature of the world ever since 7 started leaning this way since it's taking people out of taking the story seriously.
>Majima's amnesia only exists to justify him wanting to be a pirate and doesn't really do anything in the story outside of make characters who know him go "Majima, stop having amnesia, you're being stupid." and lead to a fight just so they can have a fight.
>Has now introduced an actual method of immortality that isn't a throwaway substory joke that they can now use whenever they want because Jason and Masaru figured it out.
>Easiest game in the entire series even on Professional. If you even upgraded attack one section you are already grossly overpowered even for Amon let alone the rest of the game not to mention the rings.
>Ship combat is bad as it incentivizes stunlocking over everything and a good 80% of the unlocks either do no damage or whiff so badly it's not worth using them. You can't even ignore this strategy because otherwise the coliseum isn't possible to complete as you have to take down ships in around a minute in order to even clear the actual combat portion.
>Devil Flags are just rehashing the same 4 bad guys and one major bad guy storyline they've been forcefeeding us since 0.
>Mad Dog is pointless as a style as Sea Dog does more damage, can mob better, has extremely broken attacks like the hook stab, and has objectively better Heat Actions for every situation.
8G is mediocre at best.

How many action Pirate games have there been in the past decade, I'll wait lol
>>
>YAKUZA LITERALLY JUMPS THE SHARK
how do retards defend this shit?
>>
>>737405057
Nu-kuza fans are retarded. Then again, they gotten into the series from the memes so they love the whole ironic memefest garbage
>>
>>737404906
Why are you acting like I'm only talking about video game stories and not movies, TV shows, or books? The story is them just searching for a generic great treasure that gets ever so slightly recontextualized in the finale to explain why Majima went looking for it in the first place before he got the amnesia. Even something as basic as Peter Pan or PotC has the same sort of generic journey for long lost treasure.
The story was at its best when it was actually focusing on the aftermath of 8, explaining Buraisu a bit more than 8 did, dealing with Saejima, and hanging out with Noah.
>>
>>737405405
Because the reality is that there ARENT that many pirate video games. If you're trying to compare the game to the original Yakuza games I get being upset. If you treat it like a side game and the story as an excuse to do Pirate shit, it is fun.

Also the whole "why doesn't the coast guard intervene" can be explained by "The Queen" since she pulls so many strings.
>>
>>737405831
>If you treat it like a side game and the story as an excuse to do Pirate shit, it is fun.
It isn't a side game. It's literally a mainline sequel to 8 which Yokoyama himself outright stated in the press tour when they announced it and made it abundantly clear Gaidens are not side games, they are mainline stories.

Even if you ignore that and take it for what it is it's just Majima meandering for quite a bit until suddenly they figure out the treasure is somewhere on Nele Island because an immortal man that knew Bryce hid it there, and then you get into a final boss fight with a guy you've seen all of two times during the entire game so he doesn't even really feel like a final boss fight.
>Also the whole "why doesn't the coast guard intervene" can be explained by "The Queen" since she pulls so many strings.
Doesn't work as an excuse. It was literally televised, the internet exists, it's a direct attack on US soil within US soil by ships retreating into international waters, Bryce's control of Hawaii is gone so any sort of corruption within Hawaii would be minimal at best as his stranglehold of it has been destroyed, and even if Queen has control over Hawaii itself she can't control the entire rest of the US from retaliating over this brand new 9/11-esque situation happening via 18th century ships.
>>
>>737405057
Unc-kuza fans are retarded. Then again, they got into the series during the ps2 era so they ignore the actual combat especially from Lost Judgment.

>>737404112
I don't like Majima and I want less of him

Lol you take those games too seriously. People like you are why we can't have nice things. Why are you watching press conferences and shit? Just enjoy the game when it comes out and realize majima is the wacky, zany guy in the series.

the boat parts kinda suck, the combat is fine, and the story failed to grab me
literally the only good part of it (combat) is done equally well in other, better yakuza games
it's fine if you enjoyed it but after pirates and infinite wealth i'm finally giving up on the franchise
>>
>>737405405
There aren't many pirate-themed media actually

>Why are you watching press conferences and shit?
Because it was when they first announced the game at all, everyone wanted to know more about the gameplay or pretty much anything, and we already knew it was 100% a sequel to begin with since it was titled "8 Gaiden"? I'm also going to take the game seriously because the story wants me taking it seriously and is regularly having people murdered in front of me or having a character sit me down to explain the ramifications of 8's ending to me for half an hour.

>>737408235
Even so, the throughline is mostly the same.
>>
its on sale for 18 bucks

should i
>>
>>737410059
Yeah, $20 is solid for the game. Just make sure you've played 8 or the first hour immediately spoils the entire ending and the epilogue does as well.
>>
>>737410059
Yes
>>
>>737404007
that looks incredibly gay, and pirates are gay. even the mouth looks like he's ready to take a fat cock in
>>
I wish it was on switch 2.
>>
>>737409957
>Even so, the throughline is mostly the same.
And how is this a fault exactly? If pirate content is far and between, a MAjima rendition is nothing but a plus.
>>
>>737414720
>And how is this a fault exactly?
Because it's ultimately a generic pirate story where the actual treasure isn't really that interesting to learn about or find and spends 60% of the game basically meandering until a clue falls in their lap. The journey to find the treasure is more or less like any other pirate story you've seen but with underdeveloped antagonists and a good half the story not even really amounting to anything.
