>random cast of a 7/10 PS2 game you would rent for a weekend in 2003 Why did Hollywood get really interested in video games in that era?
>>737406484It was the time when games were really transitioning to the mainstream, so I guess they wanted those bigger name hollywood actors to give the games an air of legitimacy. Now that gaming is so established with normies and even surpassed movies, they can get cheaper no-name VAs to cut costs
>>737406484look up the voice cast for spiderman 2: the movie: the game. everyone but james franco is there, and if i recall even had some "big" (but not hollywood actor tier) names for the non-movie characters

>>737406905And all of the movie actors except Bruce Campbell are phoning their lines in so hard they could be out-emoted by cardboard cutouts. I guess there's a sort of novelty to it though.

I never really thought about it before but I guess video games still had this trajectory of one day becoming "mature entertainment" or something. They had hearings after Columbine on video games potentially being a subversive thing that could inspire kids to commit violent acts. It had momentum that suggested maybe video games will tell stories that films can't in the future.
