eternal went off the rails, in a bad way, with too many cutscenes showing how ebin doom guy is, the whole bing bing wahoo movement and forcing you to use specific weapons
dark ages allowed you to use whatever weapons again but still couldn't let go of all the goddamn cutscenes and needless story

2016 was good but could have been better. I think it nailed a new tone that was both new age and similar enough to OG doom.
Eternal went full retard in every department but gameplay. Gameplay was generally better than 2016 but I was not a fan of max 5 bullets for every gun and constantly needing to chainsaw endlessly respawning shitter enemies.
No clue wtf happened with dark ages I never bought it lol.

I can respect them switching up the formula and not just trying to do eternal again since the gameplay was already perfected
2016 and especially eternal are just better games though, and much more replayable since there's no gay dragon or mech missions, can't even imagine going for UN in TDA just because of those

I can't believe how much Dark Ages sucked.
The hell landscape is so boring to look at compared to Earth or even Mars.
There are no civilians you can interact with, just stoic soldiers fucking everywhere.

And worse of is the tone of Dark Ages.
Alot of the fun for me is seeing the juxtaposition of the panicky humans going WTF at Doomguy who doesn't give of what's going on around him.
But in Dark Ages everyone is an alien soldier doing the exact same thing as Doomguy, it's so fucking boring.

I just don't like how they turned him into this prophecy "Chosen One" type character. I felt Doom Guy was way better when he was just your average Tough Guy Marine and was just killing demons because someone has to stop them from tacking over and did the best he could

Best of the NuDOOM, was the closest to capturing a new graphics version of the classics but with a bit of a dumbed down map in favour of more combat focus. Great designs, atmosphere, didn't shove story up your ass but was there if you wanted.

Very fun and fast, decided to make itself goofy looking but that's alright. Some great moments.

Way too much cutscenes and other characters. Gameplay better after updates. Almost not a shooter though.

Overall, they're cool and I do a full series run every year, but I hope they return to 2016 style though I know that's a pipe dream.

I enjoyed 2016 and Eternal, but Dark Ages going in so hard on "the Slayer is the most ebin badass evar" and a story nobody on earth gives a shit about really soured it for me. Eternal had some of that going on too but was still really fun.

2016 was a package of good music and characters and they removed all of that
