Why would anyone care what this idiot thinks of fighting games?
>>

>Fighting games are not a product. They are an art form... There was a passage of [an] article... that asks, "What is the point of fighting games?"

>This question I think really encapsulates the division between seeing fighting games as products versus seeing them as an art form because this is the type of question a marketing department will ask. Right? If you present Fallout to the marketing department, they're going to try to figure out, all right, what is the point of Fallout in terms of people wanting to buy it? And as long as you keep this question isolated to the marketing department, I think it's perfectly fine.

>The problem that is happening a lot in modern gaming trends and we're seeing internalized in the FGC is when the marketing department shows up in the design department in the game design discussion and they start pushing the design towards these marketing questions. That's how you get characters or functions or don't nerf things because players don't like the feeling of nerfs. And that gets compounded of course in the games as service model because the marketing never ends. It's going on always and forever.

>But in terms of art, you cannot ask the question, what is the point of its design? There is no answer to this question. It's like asking, what is the point of jazz? Jazz is an artistic expression that was later on commercialized, but there is no underlying marketing appeal that it's trying to tap into. People like it for different reasons. Hey, you like jazz. I love jazz. A bohemian hipster millennial may love jazz because it's a sign of sophistication and a culture that they're not familiar with. But that is not the same reason why Charles Mingus loves jazz.

That's why.

If it's not a product then I can't steal it. yarr

I mean I get the sentiment and I kinda like Mark MSX but I'd like it if people actually played my genre. Just because he's so deep into shmup territory that having 40 people play a game seems like a victory doesn't mean that adding more shit to a fighting game just to make it more appealing is a bad idea.
The issue with people not playing fighting games isn't some retarded shit like
>motion input hard
it's the fact that it's an arcade mode, online multiplayer, training and if you're lucky a replay mode which if you're expected to pay 70 or heaven forbid 80 eurodollars feels meagre no matter which way you look at it
