>the idea>the gameplayWhy do so many games devolve into systemslop and numberslop? How come no one figured out how to make a game where the intended experience is the optimal experience and you never have to think about the meta systems and numbers governing the game, where you can just act the way a character in that world would actually act and things would work out MMOs are an extreme example, this applies to single players games as well
>the most praised """adventure""" game in the last 10 years
>>737454223Warcraft was always a numbers game, even the RTS trilogy had build orders and optimal stratsWoW just took the next step and simply embraced the excel gameplayIf you want an action adventure fantasy game play something else
>>737454602There are no games that try to address this anymore, every game is adding RPG elements and numbers because it's an easy way to dish out dopamine
That question has been bugging me lately.Has me questioning the whole medium. So many games are dragged down by systems, less would somehow be better.I feel like the only way to enjoy games is in spite of these systems, having to limit yourself or completely ignore certain things
don't make money
>>737454223Why can't you form a coherent thought without using the word "slop" several times per sentence?
Perhaps you should read a book.
>>737456741Why can't you infer the intended meaning from context instead of being a faggot
>>737454223MMOs often get away with having too many numbers because there might be 40 people fighting a boss. I like games where most of the necessary information just comes from shit that the characters can see. Ninja Gaiden, for example, doesn't have many UI elements and most of the information it does convey is just through shit in-universe.
>>737454223One more reason to appreciate games like Dark Souls and Skyrim
>>737456915It has nothing to do with the meaning
>>737458830Both series are systemslop, not to the extent of WoW but the numbers/items/metagaming get ridiculous and immersive play is discouraged by the game design
>>737458939Oh I see, you just don't like RPGs.
>>737454223Optimizing numbers is fun thobeit. I actually think WoW strikes a pretty good balance where you don't really need to think about the numbers while leveling and can just vibe and play into class fantasy (which action bar combat can actually do really well by giving you a much wider range of skills than a typical action game, while still giving you more agency of movement than a turn-based RPG), but then numbers optimization becomes important in the endgame. It gives something for both casual and meta players, and keeps endgame from getting stale. These days people optimize the leveling experience anyway, but you really don't have to. And you can turn most of those numbers and other UI elements off, a lot of them aren't even really necessary at high-end play.
>>737459360It's an outdated game philosophy like JRPGs
>>737454223>How come no one figured out how to make a game where the intended experience is the optimal experiencethey did, it's called movieslop.
>>737461995Oh, you're trolling. Why did I think to expect more.
>>737454357What is the best way to handle an inventory that large to not break the immersion
>>737454223MMOs are just 3D model viewers with a combat log
>>737462231Make it a grid
>>737462231Don't have an inventory that large
>>737462724This is the correct answer.
