Gen AI was supposed to revolutionize game development.
>>
>>737458898
the investors are starting to want their money back, they're charging more for generation, and it's only going to get worse because there's no way for this shit to be profitable
>>
>>737458898
It has its uses, but mostly for fun. It approximates things, but it isn't exact and intentional enough to use for production. This whole thing blew up way past what it should have been. Image and video generation should have been like a subscription service so you could goon to uncensored material all you want, and it should all be legal because its made up fiction. It would have been the perfect audio visual pleasure system.

Haha

>>
>>737459314
i think open-source(ish) AI for doing fun things will survive and some big companies will stick around but already it sounds to me from sources like small companies aren't able to acquire funding for AI ventures (silicon valley nepotism aside) and i can see a lot of companies who bet hard on it having issues when the propped-up market for it collapses
>>
>>737458898
You don't even know how much gen AI they do in game development.
And they won't admin it cus it's too controversial yet.
>>
>>737459832
Can you gen gatomon taking Veemon's cock? Make sure to make it humanoid, have balls and have it match the white color from the front of his body
>>
>>737458898
i kinda miss the silly fun of that era of image gen, even if the writing was already on the wall of how bad things would get. now everything is pretty firmly divided into
>incestrous paid image gens that are both censored to hell and make everything look like new jersey thanks to the self fueling piss filter
>chink video gen for youtube shorts revenue from boomer parents watching videos of cats that don't exist
>local models (increasing in size but not in quality) that are branched 13,000 times yet all are really great at 1girl nudes or anime girls and dogshit at anything else
>local image gen that requires your own server farm worth of RAM to generate something "almost as good" as the chink videos
no one's making "kojima mocaps george costanza for MGSV" shit anymore
>>
>>737460406
when Sora 2 first game out, there was a nice resurgence of funny videos. Too bad that's dead now.
>>
>>737460406
It really pisses me off how much they miss the ball with this. If they had really focused on making entertaining content with AI, it would have been amazing to see. unfortunately it seems like corporations have completely abandoned pleasing customers at all, and just play some kind of game of Monopoly within their own circles, trading and selling to keep up with the infinite growth model. at some point there just going to completely ignore the customer entirely.

So, what is SkyNet? Is it a prefabricated easy to host AI hookup? And please don't tell me this is locked behind a patreon paywall.
>>
>>737460929
It basically gives every NPC a simulated brain. You still have to pay for AI tokens and it's on github but addons yo I herd you liek mods so we put mods in your mods are in d*scord
>>
>>737459710
Someone made an LLM mod for Kenshi. Clunky as hell but being able to talk to NPCs in an open world game is such a surreal experience. I've been building whole factions by actually talking to people instead of just imagining something happened.
>>
>>737461162
I figured the way people were talking about it that it seemed too sophisticated for it to just be local hardware.
>>
It won't die because it's a weapon more insidious than nuclear warfare and all of the fun stuff we use it for just helps it learn and replicate human behavior better. Every government on the planet is all in on AI. It isn't leaving. And once Bill Gate's auto-meat shit is perfected the highest castes will have no need for humanity since they'll be able to produce their own laborers and food supply.
>>
>>737460106
this. so much gen AI went into rdr2 and elden ring you don't even know
>>
>>737461475
If you know what you're doing you could probably run Gemma 4 locally. I don't know if it's possible with Skyrim running alongside it though, but the game is old enough that it's probably not that demanding.
>>
>>737458898
It can be pretty useful.
For generic texture generation is quite good, and for motion generation it has the potential to surpass motion capture.
Everything else is spotty.
Maybe voice dubbing, because you can do make the voice EXACTLY as you want instead of hiring troy baker and telling him to make 20 different voices in 10 different languages.
>>
>>737458898
all i wanted was actual AI used for NPCs in games but nope, what we get is AI making the NPCs look better but they still act like retards

>>
>>737458898

At some point people need to realize that everything anyone has said about AI's benefits was just someone trying to sell you something very expensive and near useless.
>>
>>737461731
We've had the ability forever to make better NPCs for a while. Big companies won't do it since they don't want to filter players, and smaller devs generally don't know how to do it without it consuming too much time. When you make better NPCs you basically have to focus all your time on not only them but an environment that suits them so they can actually make decisions that don't just involve aimbotting the player. Things like flanking, cover systems, surpressing fire, squad pushing and allowing all AI to actually attack (which is important for melee combat). Maybe they fuck with the environment directly with explosive objects or fragile pillars they can drop on you. Right now every dev could probably have gen AI mimic player behavior and put it into their games, but they'd have to have the talent to be able to neuter it because they never want to take the risk of actually dumpstering on the player. I remember some old games, maybe one was unreal tournament, where devs learned early AI can't be too strong in games, and developing actual intelligent behavior is too much work.

Everyone knows that the money for generative AI is on porn and memes and copyrighted characters but companies are too stuck with trying for clean ethical image. Echo is a fun game for the AI. Simple mazes filled with bots. The game cycles every couple minutes and bots learn to do anything they saw you doing the last cycle. If you run, they run, if you climb over something, they climb, if you use your gun, well you're fucked because they can all use guns. Go a cycle without them seeing you do anything and they lose everything again.

It's still possible to make NPCs give you proper info related to whatever quest you're on, but it needs to be coded in properly. Stuff like quest objectives, items, exact locations, region info, item drop info, etc. need to be tracked constantly ingame so that it could be inserted into the AI's context, preferably in the forefront to ensure as little hallucination as possible. The problem is that I don't think most of these LLM mods have properly included all of the necessary data into the context and only does basic API calls. Not sure if the Skyrim mod is like that but others just seem to be lazily vibecoded.
