He makes sci-fi and horror thrillers that are often pretty weird and dreamy, a film this big is also a departure for him, but he's been gushing about Dark Souls and Elden Ring in interviews for years, he seems a proper autist about it, and he's the one that brought the pitch to A24 and then to From Software.I don't expect some sort of Jodorowsky esoteric art film, but given the people involved, I also don't expect some sort of basic watered down safe PG13 blockbuster. I expect it'll be a weird dark fantasy film first and foremost. If it can capture the the fragmented, funereal atmosphere of From's games, great. I don't know if it will. But hit or miss, Garland's films have tended to have good atmosphere and aesthetics at least so we've got a shot anyway.
