I loved Cyber Sleuth and Hackers Memory and I love Time Stranger too but anyone who tries to use it to shit on Pokemon is a larper who plays neither.The Digimon Story games are great, heavily SMT-like but with more of a focus on freedom of exploration of its evolution system and it's a fun concept. But they're also the definition of cheap JRPG in terms of flaws. HEAVY reuse of locations, often having you do the same dungeon layout multiple times or repeatedly go back and forth through the same locations repeatedly.It's only "better than Pokemon" in extremely surface level ways (all Digimon have one particularly unique animation along with a handful of generic ones for other actions, Pokemon has more generic animations per mon and unique cinematic animations are limited to specific mons) but if you actually released any of the Digimon Story games as Pokemon games they'd get the same linearity complaints that Gen 7 Pokemon got but even worse because linear Pokemon games don't expect you to walk through the first four routes five times each backward and forward.The actual fact is all of these franchises have different intentions and expectations. >>737475980The combat is Digimon Story games is much much closer to SMT than Pokemon, as is the world design. REs File Island is just worse than the first. Not just because it looks lamer, but because they're harder to navigate (though maybe the lesser looks are a reason why that's the case). And what you have to do to get the digimon to return to the city is just not as fun or varied as the original. And the digimon themselves feel lesser. They don't have as many animations per creature, the roster is very anime protagonist-centric. Pokémon has cause and effect, cohesion. Digimon games feel almost random, vague, generalized. You get like 7 moves, movesets are way to varied leading to a lot of overlap and it really not mattering what you're using. Stats are a seemingly meaningless mess. Pokémon's better.

They're going to keep adding new ones each season obviously as well as incorporating other battle gimmicks besides Megas, like Z-Moves. It's only on Switch now but it's sort of in an open beta phase and is coming to mobile in the next few months. The smaller roster of Pokémon and Held Items is great for introducing or re-introducing players. It's a good time to try the game out.

I'll be honest I didn't end up liking Time Strangers that much after playing it.Maybe it was that there was just a lot of hallways, maybe it was the fact that dlc was tied to the costumes you had to buy, but it felt middling to me.I did enjoy specific parts though.
