this game was so ahead of its time

about time we give it the flowers it deserves
>>
It fucking sucked though, the only thing good about it was the trailer.
>>
>didn't even work at launch as Nvidia didn't release it's driver update till the week after
>every map had a meat grinder grenade spam choke point that killed the round
>parkour locker to the light class
>heavy couldn't even jump
>every single load out was cab9/vector SMG and deagle
>minigun and auto grenade launcher couldn't even kill anyone after a full mag dump
>5 maps just mirrored so they called it 10 maps
>Cosmetics locked to IRL stores
Fuck off retard
>>
>>737475059
This shit was the OG concord
It fucking sucked
>>
>>737475059
I wanted to like it, but it was just a boring run of the mill Multiplayer game.
At least I got some Tf2 item from it, or was that another game?
>>
It was basically a shitty version of TF2 how the fuck was it ahead of its time?
>>
>>737476761
It's nothing like TF2. It's objective defence that gets progressively harder as you lose each objective with extra handicaps to the defenders so the attacking team has a chance to win
>>
>>737475059
>Braindead AI, if you are playing solo/offline you need to do everything
>Container city front gate
>The goddamn faces
>Plot that barely makes sense with the DLC implying that at least some parts of both campaigns happened but also a lot of contradictions
>Container city front gate
>Class challenges were insanely difficult
>Outside of its dedicated objective operative was not that useful
>Container city Front Gate
Despite it all I do have a bit of a soft-spot for the game. It ain't great by any means but the general aesthetic and level design were pretty solid, what plot it did have was weirdly earnest with the VAs playing into the script pretty well, and the soundtrack was good with the menu theme changing based on faction and body type. One I'd consider playing it again to see how much of what I liked about it was just teen nostalgia but I think I'd start crashing out from having to constantly revive nechayev so maybe not
>>
the xbox 360 release was a disaster. servers just didn't work, was completely unplayable.
>>
>>737476664
Not really. It came out during the almost month period PSN shit the bed. Concord had a far less hampered opportunity.
>>
Isnt this free on steam now? i think thats why i have it. Gonna launch it and play for a bit if i can.
Everyone here should hop on to form a recent opinion of their own about the game instead of relying on whatever shit they heard from the internet years ago and so i can find a match.
>>
It was fucking broken at launch on every single platform. The parkour was shallow as fuck, every map was almost identical, guns felt like shit. By the time they rolled out dripfed fixes and the servers were actually working, nobody cared.
>>
>>737477313
Never mind. I see the potential but damn i forgot how low the standards were for shooters in that generation. I only really played cod and bc2 back then. It might be fun if it didnt play like total shit. Everything just feels bad. If it was better i could see it as an alternative to rainbow six siege.
>>
Anons are going to make threads like this about marathon in 5 years
>>
>>737475059
The progression system crammed into everything in 7th gen because of CoD4 has never been good. They had parkour and then specific loadouts couldn't use it, so it was never actually used for anything. It didn't have a map editor or mod support so you were forever locked into these awful LARPing story maps and there was no room to enjoy a specific game mode.

It was ahead of its time for awful hero shooters, but hero shooters are awful for a reason.
>>737477083
All console shooters from 6th gen onward were unplayable, people just increasingly lowered their standards until PC players were also forced to lower their standards.
>>737479906
Why would they make threads about a game from the 90s that they aren't making now?
>>
Brink was the last time I pre-ordered a game

>brink was totally kino bro
Look man I like parkour and was desperately looking for similar games to Mirror's Edge at that time too but Brink is dog dick and no amount of revisionism will fix that.

It's literally (LITERALLY) free right now on Steam and nobody chooses to play it.

I love Enemy Territory but this game fucking SUCKS. The body types don't matter, or to be blunt, the parkouring skinny guys don't matter because the maps aren't good enough for the parkour to matter.
>>
>>737475059
is this the first heroshooter or the ancestor of heroshooters?
>>
MUCHO BAD GUYS SPOTTED

Ancestor. It was the first time people were comparing teamshooters to TF2.

I don't care what other anons say in this thread it was so much fun at the time to play. Loved the aesthetics and musical score.
>>
Brink is still filtering /v/-lets to this day
>>
>>737481043
This guy always backs the wrong horse. He bought a PS Vita, Game Gear and a lifetime subscription to Blockbuster Video in 2010
>>
isn't it still fully playable with bots?
>>

>>737481169
Yeah, but there are unironically better games you could be playing with MP bots.
>>
>>737475059
Dirty Bomb was better and even then Splash Damage had to fuck that up too somehow
>>
It had a real stupid skill point system
Each class had a skill tree but they ALL SHARED THE SAME POOL OF POINTS that you unlocked from playing the game, so you had the choice of either pouring them all into one to be optimal with that (and naturally discourage swapping, in a game where objectives often required specific classes to interact with them) or spreading them out and being mid with everything. Terrible idea

>every flop is like concord
Concord flopped in a specific way for a specific reason.
As bad as Brink was, it wasn't infested with diversity committees.
>>
>>737481603
Concord was woke and thus unappealing

Brink was bait and switch and managed to trick a few retards because it said "Bethesda" on it (which is also true of their Rogue Warrior game)
>>
>>737481043
Agree about the soundtrack. It was the only genuinely great thing about the game.
>>
If you're comparing to modern colorful shooters and big flops, one thing I noticed that sets this game apart from its modern contemporaries is the complete lack of women. Its all men fighting men
>>
>>737481169
Better yet, it's completely free and has a campaign
>>
>>737481946
>and has a campaign
Oh fuck off.
You run around the multiplayer maps while some ambigious brownie spews out some shit dialogue.

never played it but I played ET like a motherfuck, the best shooter what wwalked the eart
>>
>>737475059
I guess you could say it was on the BRINK of greatness! Haw! Haw! Haw!
