Is VR gaming still alive?
>>737480835only through mods like UEVR and REVRexclusives and Zuck killed it
I’m having fun with Quest 3 standalone games and new game releases every week.
>>737480835I want to make a VR game to sell, but seems like the market is too dead in the water to make it worth it.
PSVR feels kind of dead. Still glad I got it and it was worth the money for what there was but it clearly never got the install base it needed.
>>737483687PSVR2 makes a decent PCVR headset with the adapter. Modders recently got eye tracking working on it
virtual desktop experience has been degrading in the last few updateshad to get an ethernet adapter just to eliminate stuttering
>>737483772I heard it drops the HDR though, which is probably the best feature of the headset
>>737480835>still no news on steam frameit's over
>>737483984Still OLED though so has better colors than most affordable VR headsets
>>737480835it will be if valve get off their butts and RELEASE THE DAMN STEAM FRAME
Do we know if it will be possible to use the steam frame wired with a PC? I'm never ever buying any wireless technology when a wired alternative is available, but everything about the headset besides it being wireless looks good.
>>737485302Why would you want to be leashcuck? I went fully wireless in everything in 2009 because wires suck
>>737485520NTA but I primarily use VR to simrace and the 2 hour battery life of these headsets just isn't enough
>>737480835Yes, it's not ever going to really die now that consumer VR is available, it's just too compelling of an idea and enthusiasts will always put money into it and develop it.It's currently in hibernation, because every company avoids it like the plague unless it's one guy's hobby project and he pushes for a VR mode. There are constant flat games that would likely have good VR modes, but they always have to be implemented with mods at best.>>737485302Unlikely to even have USB streaming, since the USB C is USB 2.0 according to specs.>>737485632The battery is external, so there is likely the option to just run power over a wired connection or use hotswap battery packs.
>>737485520Wires just work, it's physically impossible for wireless to be equal to wired. It can only be good enough and even that, atleast nowadays, is mostly the case in controlled environments, not in real setups. I don't doubt that in the ideal environment they test in and after having to jump through a bunch of hoops like foveated streaming or billion GHz adapters or whatever else they come up with, it can almost kind of be as good as wired, sometimes. In real life it will always have delay, it will always have compression, it will always be susceptible to interference and it will always be more effort than just plugging in a damn cable. Also what this anon said >>737485632, I don't like being on a timer and having a wire somewhere around is simply not an issue for me.
>>737480835>Researchers have created a new device that uses ultrasound to trigger smells directly in the brain for VR its never been so back
>>737485786>Unlikely to even have USB streaming, since the USB C is USB 2.0 according to specs.Damn, that's a shame. I guess I'll just stick with my Reverb until I can no longer use Win10 for whatever reason and get PSVR2 if that happens.
Remember when I caught a janny shilling Pimax?
>>737485859especially with getting a house becoming impossible you have to live in a cubicle complex with 200+ other niggers on the wifi bandi tried 3 different 200+ dollar wifi 6 routers and i cant use virtual desktop with a decent bitrate without stutteringswitched to a wired ethernet adapter and now it just works perfect
>>737480835barelyI really like team beef and flat2vr's stuff like doom and quake vr mods but ever since they become an official studio they've just been striking outI'm assuming part of it is difficulty securing a deal with better developers but they're doing ports of shit like wrath, a painfully middling boomer shooter, and then wondering why it's not doing well
>>737487407they just need to finish postal 2 vr and then they can close
>>737480835Valve have to have something lined up to release with the frame right?
The only VR headset worth getting is the PlayStation VR2
>>737487596i will never use a controller with fatass rings again ever since getting a quest 3
>>737487596The fresnel lenses are horrible and using pancakes but it's amazing how much tech is crammed in there for the price. Shame that it's all disabled by default for PC and needs modders to unlock
Pico Swan will resurrect it
>>737487801>and using pancakesAfter using pancakes*
>>737483797>ethernet adapterMake sure it's actually rated for ethernet speedsI discovered I got much better performance out of a Wifi6 connection just cuz of that
>>737487937ive used it for a week now 500mbit h264+ 0-1 network latencyalso has power delivery so it keeps it chargedim just glad the bobovr S3 straps fan still works when not plugged into the headset
>>737487806Pico is just the best value for VR on the market right nowWas kinda disappointed seeing the specs of Valve's new offering but I guess the main draw there is the software itself
>>737480835Got into vr porn thinking of buying a cheap one any recomendation?
>>737488307labo
>>737480835It feels kinda dead even though there's actually two releases today that I'm really looking forward to with Forefront and Into the Radius 2.
>>737487407Roboquest VR is pretty great, even though the default controls felt like total ass on Index.
>>737490526>Forefront is an intense VR shooter featuring 32-player large-scale battlesGreat another DOA multiplayer VR shooter
>>737480835My htc vive is collecting dust...
>>737491056>viveunderstandable
>>737485302steamvr beta 2.16 has an icon for USB modeit doesn't seem to be usable yet but in theory that means they plan on it
>>737488009Valve focuses on the VR experience first and foremost and that means the lowest latency possiblethat's why they're going for a dual stream 6GHz dongle and 144hz (((experimental))) display refresh ratesits purely to get the feeling of latency as low as possible yet keep the wireless benefitsthey're also sticklers for persistence so that's why they didn't pick uOLED, most likely
>>737487556I feel like they surely would have teased something by now. But it's hard to imagine they really have Nothing. If they don't, what the fucking Hell are they thinking? Where they genuinely expecting to sell the thing on old games alone? It would be past the point of absurdity
>>737480835yes, Wrath VR, EXD, and little nightmares VR are just this month
>>737485859>Wires just work, it's physically impossible for wireless to be equal to wiredIt's physically impossible for any headset to get the Oculus CV1 latency and feel, non-Carmack devs just can't do it
>>737488307quest3s, can play anything quest3 can + better battery because there's 1 screen instead of 2
>>737487407Wrath VR is better programmed than Amid Evil VR, at least the devs somewhat know what they are doing
>>737485302Yeah, IIRC, there's an USB port.
>>737493370>USB port.doesn't mean it sends low latency displayport data
>>737485302Nope.Stop thinking about muh wireless or wired.Start thinking about WHY you would go wired rather than wireless. There are no valid reasons in this case since Valve has made the wireless connection top notch, never before seen quality actually. They use eye tracking to make the connection better by only focusing on where you look.
>>737480835Sadly no. Tfw we'll never get a VR Diablo game
>>737493637https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rku291mPjQM
>>737493842looks like shit
>>737487937>Wifi6 connectionethernet is true duplex, wifi can't send and receive data at the same time slot
Playing RE7 in modded VR. It's incredible and I won. Playing Star Citizen in native supported VR. It's also incredible, but still a buggy mess.Basically, I won. HAHAHAHAHA
>>737494786RE7 and 8 via the praydogs mods were a very good experience for me. Haven't tried 2,3 and 4 but should be good as well.Hardest past is crawling for fixes like disabling taa and some shadow fix stuff but not too difficult.
>>737494094I played NG4 on a VR screen through Wifi6 and that has 0.05s/3f parriesFar as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter>>737494936I should try those out, really liked the MHRise VR view but couldn't get Wilds to run (of course not)Still pissed the official VR ports of RE games is stuck on fucking Playstation
>>737483772just bought a vr headset recently and it came down to choosing between psvr2 or quest 3ended up picking quest 3 because the pancake lenses but I do wish I had access to eyetracking and foveated rendering
>>737494936good to know, this is my first playthrough of RE7. I heard RE8 had performance issues, but I have a godly GPU so I'm not too concerned and that was years ago when they were saying that. VR game experiences trump pancake for immersion. If GPU's ever get cheaper again, I'm going to run a dual GPU/PSU rig with a dedicated 32GB+ VRAM for local AI. I'll use this to play skyrim with ai npc's that have quick response gen times.
>>737487596Not having full Linux support is a dealbreaker now.Afaik it just sort of works, but the controllers don't or something.Sure it'll work if you just want to use it for games, but any kind of desktop development is going to be on Linux as some open source thing.
>>737495194The Praydog mods for Resident Evil PCVR are better than the official VR modes. A lot of people see it as a blessing in disguise. Here is the no questions/nothing left to imagination guide I used for the mod. The video is complex, but it's because he covers a wide variety of configurations and settings you may or may not care about. The vid also contains the bindings (which if you are using steam index you can customize anyways).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql5ggETipyM
>>737495384I didn't have major performance issues on re8 on a 4080 but that was at around 3000x3000 per eye for the render res so not really pimax tier.Mostly 90fps with dips to 75 maybe.
>>737487596you can get top windows MR headsets for cheap and use the hack driver
>>737495221When the steam frame drops, I will gamble on saying it's worth it. Steam Index is the entry point of what I consider acceptable VR worth the money. Everything after from Valve should be an improvement hopefully.
>>737495753>Index is the entry pointanything that involves external trackers or cameras can't be entry points
