How do we contain the boundless creativity of indie devs
>NOOOO YOU CAN'T RIP OFF A GOOD GAME, YOU MUST ONLY RIP OFF BAD GAMESHow do we contain the boundless faggotry of OP
>>737499249This looks AI generated...
>>737499363Yeah, why do they strictly ripoff Earthbound and never Final Fantasy III?
>>737499363hey I'm ripping of Dragon's Dogma, is that good or bad?
>>737499249Perhaps we can construct some sort of metaphorical mental cage to contain the creativity, maybe with electroshock therapy. If we shock them every time they think of Earthbound it may result in a form of containment.
>>737499367Nah
surprised we don't have a song or copypasta or something about those rpgmaker earthbound "inspired" games
i'm a huge fan of earthboundone day i might actually play it
>>737499249If you're gonna rip off, at least do it wholesale instead of half-assed and ugly.
>>737500198wtf is this
>>737499363My issue with this is they copy too much. If it was just the game mechanic, sure. But they also take the artstyle, music, basically everything. It's boring.I could forgive all that though if their clone actually improved on anything, but they always suck harder than the original. That's the nature of copying a masterpiece, you're going to fall short. There are plenty of older games that have interesting concepts with poor execution. But noooo, they don't try to fix those games because that would require actual thinking. They only copy games that were already good and make them worse.
>>737499249This is my indie game called Blearthbound. It's a turn based RPG about depression.
>Meanwhile, on a certain island atop the deep blue sea, far from the influences of the continental world…
>>737499249earthbound made retards think they matter so they want to make a game
>>737500747That isn't from a game THOUGH
>>737499249You hate all 2D games anon. What are you talking about?
>>737501143do not reply to rasko
>>737499249Why Earthbound anyway, is it just that easy to code? I'd like to see an indie take on KH1 style gameplay.
Well, it worked for Undertale. I think people forget the value of being first to do the ripoff. Stardey Valley is another one, which while great, probably wouldn't succeed today if it were released in the sea of Harvest Moon clones it inspired to an audience that never played Harvest Moon. (Or Undertale with Earthbound)
>>737499363>>NOOOO YOU CAN'T RIP OFF A GOOD GAMEEarthbound sucks and no one plays it for the gameplay
>>737499363It's too on the nose is the problem. It's like the difference between Paperball and Rolled Out, if you know your Monkey Ball. The former tries some new things that are cool and interesting, the latter just replicates the formula almost 1:1. And is stuck in early access hell. I'm still salty about donating.
>>737501437In the case of stardew it helped that they never went back to the SNES formula and HM/SoS sucked complete ass for the longest time.UT is inspired by EB and it's obviously not EB.
>>737500479just looks like some sort of difficulty mod but not-Poo doesn't have PSI Looks insanely pointless, the Kraken can already wipe your party doing less damage in the actual game, the big damage number is just really dumb
>>737501437What is Undertale ripping off? I don't recall a game with turn-based minigame mechanics or this black and white animated style>inb4 "b-but it has some Earthbound quirkiness"
>>737501748Warioware
If chinks can steal shit 1:1 and make billions, i say let the lil indies do it too
>>737501430There are enough people who only play Nintendo games that Earthbound is their only exposure to a generic turn based RPG. They've probably played Pokemon, but that wouldn't even show them having like 4 characters in a battle at once or even playing as the same character for exploration and battles.
>>737501748Mr Game and Watch
derivative games that are cheap and sometimes fun (indies) > derivative games that cost $70 and are boring as hell (AAA slop)
>>737501680this definitely isnt a mod, the rolling animation is missing and a bunch of stuff looks weird
>>737501430action games are really difficult to get feeling correct. also there's a lot of shit that can go wrong.
>>737499249Game is called Backworlds btw. Seems pretty cool and spooky.
>>737499249The mind of an indie dev is complex... They are the TRVE pioneers of gaming...Just what will they think of next...? Heh... who knows what the future holds...?
>>737503591They truly are limitless
>>737503737You take that back, Jimmy is actually decent unlike most of these
>>737499249what even happened to mother 4 anywayit got a name change like 6 years ago then i haven't heard from it since
>>737501748OFF
>>737501143Sure it is.https://fygoon.com/game.html
Ok so the (not funny) joke here is that "everything done now is just copying something else"Go ahead and describe a 100% original video game idea that hasn't already been done (pro tip: everything has been done)
>>737506997Being "unoriginal" is not the same as plagiarizing 1 very specific thing.
>>737507348What if I plagiarize two things at once? Say, for example, a Zelda game but with Dragon's Dogma combat
>>737506997Ok so you play as a dragon with a sword as he finds himself on a quixotic adventure with his friends, a squirrel inventor and a lynx assassin, harassing his own people while a communist dinosaur works with the people the dragon harassed earlier to overthrow him to take over the island he calls home and later the world. Gameplay involves you, in a 3D third-person perspective, going from point A to point B to fight a boss at the end and killing everything in your path with arming swords, maces, fire-breathing attacks, longswords, throwing chakrams, and a big ass laser cannon given to you by a race of ethereal creatures who like to catalog the cultures of every era and place in the universe. You can go off the path to find friendly characters who provide tasks for you to partake in (like exterminating monsters, finding gloves, or destroying objects) to earn power-ups or explore a series of cave systems to find suits of armor that provide gameplay tweaks. Enemies include famished bulldog people, troll-ogre hybrids, racist fairy-elf hybrids, gremlin-like baboons, wolves with ice swords, sapient piles of rocks, weird wildlife, and living computer malware that serve the previously mentioned communist dinosaur.Name ten games that are similar to what I have just described.
>>737507393Obviously having a variety of influences is a good thing. No shit.In food analogy terms, do you define "originality" as a new combination of ingredients that have never been combined before, or as inventing new ingredients out of your ass?
>>737506997I call it Dick Tac Toe
>>737507970I'm not the same anon you quoted before, I don't really care too much about "original" and "innovation" rather than just "fun". But to answer the question, I believe a new combination of already existing things can feel fresh, sure
>>737506997>Go ahead and describe a 100% original video game idea that hasn't already been done Penis puzzle game. Your objective is to reach the end of the level and fill a container with cum, which's the main limited resource. Mechanics include friction (to get you to cum or make you soft or hard), cumming in water to make glue, pissing as a substitute for water (piss also turns all water it touches into piss but I can't figure out an use for that) or to push objects from afar with pressurized blasts, extreme temperatures, and so on.
>>737508164>(piss also turns all water it touches into piss but I can't figure out an use for thatpissing in water kills fish. killing fish makes them float to the surface and act like platforms. though there may be cases where fish need to be left alive so you need to separate the bodies of water
>>737506997Phallus Friends, essentially it's a life sim game where everyone's measuring dick sizes to socially compete with each other, and there's mini games too ala mario party
>>737508107I agree. Depends on what those already existing things are. I also agree that being interesting on an intellectual level doesn't necessarily equate to being fun, but I think both have their own place. You can just as easily take something unfun and combine it with something else to make it fun.
>>737506997>Go ahead and describe a 100% original video game idea that hasn't already been doneThe level is full of dust, so you need to pass by with at least a hand duster, sometimes with a mop. You're on a skateboard the entire time, so the game plays a bit like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 where there's a goal to get enough points from skateboard tricks within a certain time.
>>737509826>skating while cleaning dustWell, that's a concept that leads to something else I know about
>>737509826>it's dusting but it's CUHHHHRAAZZZZZZZZZZZZYThat's just Dustforce.
>>737499517Dd2 already came out and yes it was bad
>>737499249I watched the "don't look outside" dev play this game and it looks like a ok game with a sanity system but it's just 4 niggas in a row and nothing else..
>>737499249At least it's not a fucking roguelike or a deckbuilder so it's on the upper level of indie creativity.
>>737506997Time attack arcade game where you move back and forth through a 3D city map.NPCs in cars will stop you and ask you for directions from your current location to a specific building/landmark located in the city.Under a timer, have to give them directions formatted as: 2nd turn right, 3rd turn left, 1st turn left (taking all legal turns into account). The control scheme for direction-giving would include Left, Right, as well as a "Next" and a "Confirm" input. The above directions would be entered as follows: Right, Right, Next, Left, Left, Left, Next, Left, Confirm.Of course, the screen would display what your directions are actually saying to make it more comprehensible. You also get a "Back" input to redo a previous step. You get score+time based on the time bonus and efficiency of your directions. If you give NPCs the wrong directions, you suffer a time penalty instead. So it's better to be suboptimal than wrong.Maybe if robbers ask you for directions to a bank, then you have to give them the wrong directions on purpose. Then make sure to avoid wherever you sent them. The gameplay is in a 3rd or 1st person camera, but after a run is over, you get a top-down view of the map showing where your wrong directions ended up, so you can learn from your mistakes. You can also use free-roam and top down maps for practice. As you progress by meeting minimum score requirements, you unlock additional city maps with new layouts and landmarks.Maybe include a frantic WarioWare-like mode where you get teleported from map to map and have to think on your feet.
>>737499367retarded
>>737506997>Go ahead and describe a 100% original video game idea that hasn't already been doneI want my Escaflowne-like mecha game with high-level physics, destroyable buildings, seamless mech/on-foot gameplayit's also ok if you make me a mecha mod for Mount&Blade
>>737508164How about snake but its your penis getting harder the more dick pills you consume
>>737503591thanks doc
>>737501437It worked for undertale because Toby Fox had the advantage of having one of the most rabid and tasteless fanbases out there, the Homestuck fans.
>>737501748You dodge bullets, making it a Touhou-like.
>>737510306I was thinking of Dustforce, but that's more of a straightforward platformer where you're trying to get to a certain place. I wanted the early Tony Hawk game design where it doesn't really care where you are as long as you're doing cool tricks.
>>737503591I want to play this. I can hear Laylee's noises when she's running on Yooka's roll mode
>>737510071>>737509826I just know of this, i dont know much about it https://store.steampowered.com/app/3468230/Mop_Skater/
>>737499249I have earthbound wannabe fatigue
>>737515620i don't, not many exist
Ai slop warningI saw this Harry Potter redneck parody and it kind of reminded me what I liked about Mother/EB to begin with, the juxtaposed mundane to the extraordinary is night and day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf4kqybpkdITwilight was some Podunk suburbia and forest setting mixed with vampires and werewolf's with 2000s fashion aesthetic, and that became many little girls favorite stories. This is the shit I think a lot of Earthbound clones seem to try to integrate but do weird.
>>737508164Based.
>>737503906Jimmy is patient 0 for the edgy "what if Earthbound was FUCKED UP and secretly dark" subgenre. It's like a shitty cartoon theory made manifest into a game.
