The closest thing to "what if Ghibli made a video game?" because the devs made it as a massive tribute and Ghibli itself did the cutscenes. Along with absolutely dogshit trash gameplay because they were too stupid to just recreate the gameplay of the original DS game so they made the dumbest concept for a real-time Pokemon game you can imagine, with friendly AI having donkey shit for brains.
Second one doesn't have as much soul (once you get past the beginning) but has much better gameplay and cute mermaid waifus.

i remember when the game was first announced.
i was SO hyped. i thought we were seeing the birth of the new Dream Team. i thought we were about to get the next Chrono Trigger.

then the first trailer dropped and the gameplay looked so generic that it absolutely crushed me.

The White Witch was a mistake and only made the game worse.

My problem with it was the game actually had a decent combat system once every aspect of it was unlocked, thing is the game is 90% tutorial and it drip feeds you core aspects of the combat system (blocking, skills, status effects, ect) slowly throughout the game, the last half of the final dungeon of the game was actually pretty fun, because it wasn't until that point when they finally let you play the game and until that point you're always thinking something is missing, because it is.

I'd say its a painfully medicore game as a result and not worth playing unless you just adore the artstyle. Sequel was somehow even worse.

the game is piss easy, only way to have any challenge is to do a run with no monsters and only human characters.

I really liked this game. Then about 4-5 hours in the game turns into pokemon with a monster catcher mechanic. What the fuck were they thinking?

All that and it's just for a piece of shit ending fakeout. I hate when games do that shit, she had zero presence in the story at all and then I had to spend several hours grinding because I was somehow like 15 levels underleveled despite doing all the sidequests.
Then I fight her and it turns out her schizo hallucinations are the final boss

Pretty fucked up considering that it was made by a dream team of level 5 + studio ghibli, but I guess that mixing two soulful creators end up resulting in a piece of shit instead.
