What are the biggest difficulty spikes in vidya? And I mean actual spikes, it goes up and then back down, not goes up and stays up.Picture related, the sole reason I haven't returned to Lies of P to replay it for the DLC. Having to fight this motherfucker again.I don't think a single boss took me more than 10 tries, most took around 2 or 3.This guy? Easily 50+
>>737502795Seymour on mount gagazet Bowser in Mario 64. All bowsers. Shadow Mario in Mario sunshine. Every single one. Games arent easy for me to play in my old age, im 55. Theyre designed for you young guys. Im in New York and eating a McDonald’s Big Mac. Might go for a beer at the bar later.
Those who know, know.
>>737502795Ninja Gaiden Black once you finish Hard mode and start your very hard playthroughThe first couple of chapters on very hard are extremely brutal after hard.
IYKYK
>>737502795DS3/BloodborneI'd count ER but it's dependant on how you want to progressDS3 has shit like pure rng bosses like the Abyss Watchers or Crystal Sage deciding the difficulty But then shit like Wolnir, Old Demon King, etc being retardedly easyBB is the same with how janky the AI is
>>737503282Hated this fucker.
Paris unordered race
>>737502795Resonance of Fate has a particularly nasty one. It happens right before you start to get gifted bezels to be able to run around and do tri attacks regularly so it's perfectly reasonable to get walled despite it only being a couple of hours into the game.Other RPGs... Final Fantasy is generally pretty okay balance wise. You have occasional jumps like Gagazett Seymour and Barthandelus I guess? I think the biggest wall in the series comes from Tactics with that one fight with the assassins. You can very easily find yourself with a locked game since I think it gives you two opportunities to save beforehand and you can't leave to level up or train. You need to have prepared for the fight way in advance.
>>737503542Hitman 2 just had some fucked up levels. The game was too ambitious for its own good.
>>737503182The real difficulty spike in Sunshine is the fucking Sandbird and Chucksters
>>737503182Fucking awesome post, you rock my dude
>>737502795Honestly can't remember him, are you able to summon someone for it?
>>737502795>sends you grind in NG+
>>737502795I think they nerfed a bunch of the multi-phase fights. That thing probably took me 10 attempts, which was super high compared to every other boss, but restarting when the dlc came out I think I died a single time the entire game. Then died like 20 times to the dlc anguished guardian.
>>737503893I don't think the problem with stinkers like Motorcade Interception or Tunnel Rat is ambition. They're just built around unfun mechanics.
>>737503692Neither game has singular big universal difficulty spikes though. The hardest bosses in Souls 3 are dlc related where you have all the options and Bloodborne's are in Chalice dungeons
>>737502795Every first boss in Dark Souls 2 DLC.
>>737502795Eigong in nine sols. Every single boss beforehand was very forgiving and you didn't even have to do much with the parry mechanics. Suddenly they throw Eigong at you, who not only has 3 separate phases, but you have to perfectly parry her attacks, and if you mess up a couple times you are dead.
>>737502795Karmelita. Every other Silksong boss I beat within a few tries but I must've taken like 50+ with her.
>>737502795whenever I meet this dickhead on the map
>>737507585The most fun boss in the game. She isn't easy by any means but I don't think she is the hardest or a huge difficulty spike.
>>737502795nest of fucking eagles in the last remnant.
>>737502795He's not that bad, literally just learn to parry.
>>737502795Balteus before they nerfed him
>>737507404Fat butterfly bitch was harder if only because it was harder to figure out how to evade her nukes, but with the final boss everything feels straight forward and easy to figure out.
>>737507894I only remember this asshole.
>>737508073This was a shitty meme, I fought his release version and beat him on my 2nd try, the fucking spider on the other hand, now that one was pure fucking cancer, I forgive the birb because at least she was a fun fight but that fucking spider was just a terrible fucking experience all around.
>>737503182unc...you are not him
I literally cannot name a harder boss than this one bitch in any videogame I have ever played and I play all those supposedly hard games that /v/ likes, but nothing comes close to this one fucking slut, I have beaten several of the bosses in this thread and not a single one of them comes nearly as close as how much trouble this gigantic fucking whore gave me.On hard mind you, not even at her full power.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNZTf28FLKM
>>737509172To top it off they put her in a pretty difficult platforming map. It was like a reality check.
>>737503258Easy way to beat that fuggin spider is to go back a dungeon (or two, I can't remember) and use your selection of tools to get a Fire Knife. It, and the IP skill attached to it, wrecks the spider. Fighting Gades at the top of the tower would also be an appropriate choice, even if the game doesn't expect you to win. I like how it's not only possible, but the game also rewards you for it and has valid in-universe reasonings for how he pulls the "win the fight, lose in the cutscenes" card.
>>737502795Shadow of the Horned Rat on Steam and GoG. First few missions, you can do well enough with 1 or 2 tries at least. Then in Rescue Ilmarin, you run into a Rat Ogre who completely skullfucks your army unless you kill him early. Even if you do, your men could route to basic Skaven. Then, a few more missions later, back to 1-3 tries attempts. Then you run into Shattered Pass where you fight a giant army of black orcs. This can easily take up to 20+ tries, if not more. Your artillery cpuld miss or blow up, the troll could route your army, artillery could one shot your units. Such a hard mission.
>>737503846Or you can just exploit the fact that an enemy will go after the unit with the least amount of defense/HP if it can reach them. Set up a naked unit with some extra move or enough jump to leap up the side of the wall and those Assassins will run right to it. I breezed through that fight my first time through because I was already utilizing a similar strategy. I'd keep one character deliberately undergeared and use them to draw enemies out. Plopping an AoE spell or a summon on them and sending them out to die while gathering enemies up never got old. The battle prior to that one, however, is an acceptable choice.
>>737512920Its still a huge difficulty spike is my point. The fact that its perfectly reasonable that you could mess up your saves and be unable to progress makes it stand out to me as a difficulty spike. It is the hardest portion of the game and you need to be prepared.
green swamp monster is a tanky bitch, worst fight in lies of p for sure
>>737502795I got 1000G (played it on Xbox) before the nerf patch, and yes, I agree. Definitely the hardest boss in the game.Laxativa is a joke compared to green monster.
>>737513825But it's not possible to mess up your save at the assassin/Marquis fight, that's what I'm saying. Unequip someone, throw them at the front of the formation, and watch the assassins come right to you and ignore Rafa. Then you smack them around a few times and the stage is done. At most, you'll have to retry the fight a time or two to fine tune placement. If you've got a party that was able to beat the previous fight, you'll get through this one with very minimal issues (again, mostly related to placement) once you utilize the bait strategy. Literally zero chance of getting softlocked there and zero difficulty as well, provided you understand how the game works. Again, you'd have a better difficulty argument if you used the two-stage Weigraf fight that takes place beforehand. There's no easy exploit and it might take a lot of tinkering with how you've got Ramza and everyone else set-up to get through it if you don't know it is coming. Sure, there's the Squire trick that everyone knows now, but that wasn't common knowledge back when I played it at the time of its release. Plus you'll still need to worry about getting enough move to play keep away if you go that route. That fight took me numerous reloads, mainly because I was dependent on a handful of RNG outcomes being in my favor over the course of the battle.
>>737514384That's a bad weapon combo. The crystal spear handle is much better for the dagger blade than city longspear is.

>>737503282I haven't played this in like a decade and can't remember it at all.
>>737502795This guy’s a joke once you get you used to his spastic combos. The real jumps in difficulty/frustration are Laxasia phase 2 and the elite version of those jarhead knife ladies you fight heading back to Attacked Hotel Krat.
Hardest part of the game.
Pedal Power and Tug of War in the minigame island of the original Mario Party
>>737512480People these days don't know just how fucking good they have it with WH and 40k games

Beating the Alexis Alexander on hard mode in Zero Hour is a huge spike compared to the other generals on hard. Thanks for asking and for looking.
>>737502795Stage 4 in Touhou

>>737502795I beat this asshole after a trillion attempts then dropped the game shortly after. I think that much time wasted long after it stopped being fun killed all my will to continue.Could really nail the first phase though
>>737502795King of puppets was way worse for me
>>737507404God Eigong beat the shit out of me and made me love the game's mechanics only for her to be the final boss
Not sure if it counts but the chess board segment + final boss in Silent Bomber https://youtu.be/VjNEl7V7xho
>>737519106Oh, cute. Her first phase. The second phase, however...
>>737507585It is a good boss but I cant help but feel that they just took cut content from act 1 and the majority of the difficulty is from the double damage.
>>737502795
