Man I hated this game. It took so long for me to finally enjoy it. The first time I played it, I thought it was the worst game ever created. But the more I played it, the more I began to appreciate its good points. The level design is atrocious yes, but the environment design (which is different from level design) is unique and interesting. The side quests are boring and junk, but it gives you opportunity to go around the game world and visit or re-visit areas you wouldn't normally go. The music is top-tier too.

I think I replayed this game like 5 times by now.

The combat in remake and rebirth are my favorite in jrpgs. But jfc, the padding from stupid mini games or slow walking or when you shimmy between narrow spaces is fucking annoying.

It has richer atmosphere and world interactivity compared to FF. FF is capable of being beautiful, but static backgrounds/camera that you just walk around between cutscenes limit what it most of the games can do.

Tifa and Aeris are legendary hot fictional women, so plenty of people only care about FF7 as "that game where you can date Tifa." Remake is fun to play, with probably Square Enix's best combination of action game mechanics with traditional RPG design. The biggest problem is that it's way too easy, to the point that Hard mode disables a basic mechanic and the game still isn't very hard.
