people got rid of all that shit willingly, they left it on the sidewalk even
>>
>>737509964
Because people only watch movies, and for movies, a big, blurry screen is more than fine.
If anything, the LCD blurry mess makes 24FPS more watchable.
Now for 60 FPS games, it shit.
>>
>>737509872
But I have my own house and area to play games in, what am I missing?
>>
>>737509964
Are boomers people?
>>
Nooo not the box with shitty resolution they constantly makes a high pitched whining sound, and the console that literally no one sincerely cares about today!!!

Ugly wood paneling, and 1970's furniture?
>>
>>737510083
You only play movie games, so you can't understand it.

Better than house flipper gray everywhere.

A friend or kid to play with sitting next time you on the couch.
The atari has 2 controllers in the photo.

Yeah, I can't stand that soulless gray either.

You must accept that you can't go back. The past is unreachable. You must move forward. Step by step. You must leave the warmth and comfort of the past behind.

they didn't take anything, this is basically any old person's house in columbus, ohio.
>>
>>737509872
You can literally buy everything in that image if you have enough money and go on ebay, no one took anything from you we just moved on cause that aesthetic is ugly
>>
>>737510492
You can even buy better.
Unlike everything else, CRT TVs consistently got better until they died.
A 2000 TV will have shit like trinitron, reduced complexity, improved picture quality, S-Video, RGB and all that.
>>
>>737509872
My great-aunt's house is basically this without the Atari but including a wall of VHS tapes of recorded Johnny Carson episodes

The issues were
>wood aesthetics got tacky real fucking fast and got an air of "your dad's house"
>these wooden TV units were made for 4:3 CRTs, so if you want a TV that isn't abysmal dogshit for near everything you will ever do on it unless you're autistic, you need a different TV unit (or you do what your dad did and stick the TV on top of the unit and just use the empty hole to store boxes
Nothing was taken from you, people just didn't want this shit anymore and they had nowhere to store shitty Ikea units. These weren't Mennonite manufactured TV units and tables or something, they came from factories that were mass producing them.
And you can bitch and moan about modern aesthetics, but you can still buy all this shit. You can buy it right now, you can go on whatever site you want and find this, you can find it HANDMADE, more expensive but far better quality.
That entire image there, the parts that aren't electronics, averaged out to today's prices, would only cost you like $500 back in the day? Maybe $750 depending on the quality of the chair?
And today you could buy all of that on the second hand market for like $250. Again the chair is iffy, you'll probably want a new one unless you want an old man's ball sweat resting underneath you whenever you sit in your flea infested shitty chair.
>>
>>737509872
took what away? heavy shitboxes and huge pointless wooden shelves that weight a ton and eat up lots of space?
>>
>>737509872
Everything in that image is trash. Save for the coffee table and chair.
>>
>>737510173
indeed, but you are aware that you can just paint or change the way your place looks, right?

Yep. They are only allowed to play up to Gen 5 though. Consoles we own are NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn and a PS. My son really wants to play Roblox but we're trying to keep him away from garbage.
>>
>>737509872
The best time to freeze at is like 2004. Then you had all the capabilities to easily get ROMs of every game in arcade cabinets before the prices went crazy and quality went to shit. This is all just a bunch of crap to me. I hate physical collections, they're pointless for actual players.

I was actually looking through Ikea catalogues to find one TV unit specifically that my family had for a decade, and it was SO RETRO amirite it was the most annoying shit we owned.
I can't find it in their older catalogues but it was about the size of this thing, maybe a bit bigger, all black and brown wood, and it was just full of shelves, full of drawers, and I have no idea how or why my family brought it to the second house we lived in, because it genuinely filled an entire wall of the house.
And before some dipshit goes
>Oh they kept it because they liked it!
They didn't. When we moved, they put it in the fucking basement, in a room they never went to and just made it "the kid's room!" so they'd never have to see it again.

That's why so much shit is minimalist these days, because you're the one that has to get rid of it one day, you're the one that probably has to put it in in the first place. That's why people use wall mounted TVs too, and why nobody is weeping over the death of CRTs aside from non-functional autists who never talk to anybody.

Since I was deep in the catalogues, I'll post one thing I actually do get nostalgia about, which are bunk beds. I had one very briefly as a child before I apparently hit my brother in the head with a metal car toy for being fucking annoying, and my parents quickly separated us into different rooms (and then sold the bunk bed since it was pointless now).
Other SO RETRO SO SOVLFUL shit that I and my family had
>a fuckoff huge rear projection unit
>an ugly green giant L shaped couch (which we "gifted" to my grandmother
>a couch that folded out into a bed
>a special fold out side table that was drilled into the wall
>a green hanging laundry or toy thing that I barely remember and seemed kind of dumb even now
>an unfinished basement (SO MUCH SOVL)
>those awful kind of felt blankets that were clearly incredibly cheap but also fucking huge
>my older brother had a ton of these massive hardback posters for Star Trek and Star Wars movies, honestly I don't get hanging up posters at all but whatever
>a cheap blue bin filled with shitty lego (I never liked lego)
>a gameboy cart that someone in our family had shoved up their ass
>an internet download cap
>a basement door that locked from the inside and I was thrown through the basement window when I was five so I could go and unlock it after my parents lost the keys (incredibly retro)
>a double decker bed (I hated it so much)
>the bed my mother slept in when she was growing up in the 60s (it had giant black bars and was almost like an incomplete crib, my favourite childhood bed honestly)
>another rear projection unit that my cousin had launched his foot through and got me in shit for it, and while I was getting yelled at he proceeded to punch another hole in the TV
>>
>>737512168
yeah never get him on roblox. legit tons of pedos on there and toxic content that is poisonous to childrens minds. just lots of weird custom games being made. dont have kids myself, but i can tell you from experience its very dangerous for kids.

Thanks for validating my opinion on Roblox, didn't know about the pedos, I'm sure they show up in most kids games. Anything bad about Among Us? He really wants to play that but I'm hesitant. Or any other games I should look out for?

The control panel is like a 300 dollar busy board to them.

NTA imo try to steer your kid away from just vidya and get them into boardgames. People don't appreciate a fun social card or boardgame anymore. Kids should appreciate games not just the electronic kind. Im a big Risk/Stratego fan.

I had stuff like this growing up (though a bit more modern, a bigger CRT and a genesis instead of an atari, etc.)
Eventually I either destroyed, sold or gave away everything. It's just a shitty old sofa that broke down under the weight of an entire family using it for 30 years. A wood panel display cabinet that was rotting away into dust and missing half its panels. A broken TV with, for lack of a better term, magnet stains all over the display. Consoles and games and media I didn't use anymore.

I don't miss it, I don't regret it, I'm not pining for a past that I lost or some shit. It's just stuff. Stuff I replaced and moved on from. The only thing of true value there was the media, and there's nothing stopping me from watching them online or downloading an emulator.
>>
>>737512825
idk i feel like online games in general are quite dangerous for kids until teenage years nowadays. online gaming tends to be much more intimate and connected than how it used to be. depends how old and aware your son is, but among us is inherently a very social game, so there can be all kinds of people on there who may or may not be weirdos. if you monitor him well though and he just games on your account with no social media shit then it could be fine. kids are good at finding people online nowadays. somehow a kid i worked with managed to find my discord and i have no idea how to this day.

Plot twist: anon who works with kids with behavioral issues is also poisoning kids' minds maliciously
>>
>>737509872
People will consider this post a joke thread but I actually do think we honestly were better off back then compared to now. The internet and technology has ultimately ruined humanity. I have not had meaningful conversations with my neighbors on a routine basis ever since the technology, smartphones and internet took over most households. I was a child and teenager back then. So if anything I should be socializing with neighbors even more but this is not the case. I barely even see these people outside their home. I have never ever once seen a neighbor taking in groceries from the store either.

Actually maybe we live in an artificial simulation.
>>
>>737510173
Hey retard, you know they keep that shit as bland as possible so it’s as easy for potential buyers to cover up with whatever color they want and aren’t turned away by some tacky shit right?

I played CS 1.6 and I can say it wasn't a positive experience for me, no pedos or creeps tho just extremely toxic behavior. Son is 8 and I was thinking of keeping him offline till middle school.

>>737513451
We still have the wired controllers but everyone likes wireless better.

>>737513543
36 so millennial but we had NES and SNES growing up.

>Son is 8 and I was thinking of keeping him offline till middle school
id say thats probably good, if not until hes 13 or so. i played world of warcraft back in the day and definitely had weird experiences in that and i know for a fact online social games are 10x worse than they were back then. i unironically had pic related experience, except it probably was a pedo trying to groom me.

Source me. I don't know any sites for decent handmade furniture nor sites for that type of furniture.

Not so easy when they vinyl panel the floor in grey. I've replaced it, but it was expensive and time consuming.

This was unironically me, 13 years old chatting with a woman in her mid 30s on iRC. She thought I was in college lol. She asked me what my major was and I didn't know what a "major" meant. I was young and dumb and I think she knew I was underage but it was fun having her talk dirty to me through private msg.
>>
>>737509872
I threw my Atari shit out like garbage because it was worthless back then. 50 cents a piece at the flea market.
