>>737513475I did not too long ago. It's still pretty much peerless in terms of how much freedom it offers regarding how to approach things. There's an extremely short tutorial, and then the player is off the rails and free to focus on whatever they feel like. The time limit keeps it from feeling aimless and gives a reason to actually plan things out and think about what you're doing. I wish the more modern games were structured similarly.
I prefer Meruru.I still have many games in the series I haven't played yet so I don't think I'll replay either one for a long time.

I liked how Totori was a frail girl who happened to know alchemy in terms of both plot and mechanics, whereas Firis is treated like a frail girl story-wise but is actually a powerful sorceress in addition to her alchemy for some reason.Firis is still the last entry in the series I really enjoyed all that much, though.

Gameplay wise I don't think there's any game that came close to the satisfaction I felt playing Shallie. >Every character is used so you don't end up with situations where you forget certain party members exist, >everyone is constantly learning new and very strong moves and skills that all scale, >debatably the best combat music in the series with some killer vocal tracks like Contours of Thirst, >Great impact and sound effects on all attacks so nothing feels like a wet noodle.It stands out so much in its trilogy and even come mysterious nothing really matches it.

Just how few items there are to create with alchemy in particular will likely be jarring if you've played more recent entries. I played Rorona, Totori, Mercury, Ayesha, E&L, Shallie, Sophie, and L&S and 100 cheevoed them all last year.I think I enjoyed Dusk the most. They should make another one.
