I've noticed by passively watching gacha games the hoyo really seems to blow their load early with characters. ZZZ suffered from this especially. The starting cast is hot, first couple new banners are giga sexy. But then they just get kind of boring, samey, and uninteresting with a very rare few exceptions.

Oftentimes there's a period of rise in quality in the works early lifespan as they still have the energy passion and creativity, but there creative skill also increases with practice. But eventually they start to hit a dropping off point where the bright enthusiasm that comes with something new begins to fade and it just sort of becomes a job, and coming up with fresh new ideas that can stand out from all you've already done starts to become harder and harder.
