>>737528898It depends on the game and the punishment for dropping the chain. It's discouraging in DDP and feveron because it's feast or famine. It it's like 3k points to build up the chain again its no biggie. Strikers 1999 and Gunbird 2 have fun chaining systems. This isn't to say full chaining is bad, but I have to wonder if it's really that big a difference between having a mild wide gap between people who can execute full chains and partial chains, when less punishing scoring systems will still put the person with better execution on the top anyways. Like it feels cool to do it, but screwing up even once even a tiny bit feels awful.

Each guy you miss can be changed to a -10% loss that stacks instead of just the entire bonus gone and having to start over.

I feel they are very old school, but they also do really whacky experimental stuff as well within that era of design. They have so many cool ideas it's hard not to love their games.

CAVE and psikyo are the two shmup devs I consistently like. Taito and Konami are hit and miss. Treasure is cool but they only made 3 real shmups and they arent like my absolute favorites or anything. Never much cared for Irem and COMPILE. There are indie shmups/smaller devs I like but the really good ones make one or two games then fuck off forever.
