I finished Black Souls 2 a month ago and moved on to other games but I can't stop feeling a sense of emptiness, a terrible sadness that there's no more to read.Emphasis on read, because the gameplay mostly sucked ass. Particularly the last DLC.Have anons got any recommendations for games/visual novels which made them feel something similar by the end?
>>737535694It's OK anon. Someday you'll overcome your porn addiction and stop playing garbage porn games
ngl, I was lurking in your thread hoping people would give more recommendationsThe last thread where people recommended surprisingly deep rpgmaker games produced games that are STILL keeping me entertained
>>737536252Could you name some of them?
>>737536343Not rpgmaker but Crystal Project, Wooden Ocean, the usual suite; funger, Look Outside, etc etc
>>737536708I haven't heard of any of these. Crystal Project looks sick as hell; the store page kinda gives me FFTA vibes!
>>737535694>Emphasis on read, because the gameplay mostly sucked ass. Particularly the last DLC.Shit taste, I loved the challenge. In fact, I liked it so much that I went for a SL1 run afterwards, which I also loved. Strategising where to go first, which rings to use for this specific fight, what strategy... One of the better JRPG experiences I've ever had.As for vidya/VNs which also moved me, I recommend:>Lobotomy Corporation>Legend of Ruina>Full Metal Daemon Muramasa>DrakeNier games>Expedition 33After beating BS2 and a few high profile disappointments (Demons Roots is AWFUL) I mostly moved on to reading, as it's easier to find moving stories there than in vidya.>>737536708Seconding Crystal Project, great game. Love the nonlinearity and the job system, but IMO Bravely Default is still unsurpassed when it comes to that.Enchant Farm is another great one, despite the very obnoxious shill. Feels like a modern take on Romancing SaGa 2 with its heavy nonlinearity and the formation system.Note that both CP and EF have little to no story. They're both primarily gameplayfag games.
>>737538950There was a great deal more attention to detail put into the fights than most conventional games have in their entire creation, but I found it mostly an adventure in grinding. I don't understand how you can do an SL1 run? Unless it's just purely in name and you used coloured souls? Bosses do damage in the hundreds of thousands later on and most if not all of their attacks, particularly in the third DLC, are unavoidable and piercing, so you can't use acrobatics or stack resistances.I almost ragequit out of frustration at the Prince of Hell fight just before Grand Guignol, where he gets to move first and immediately applies delegging to reduce your speed to zero, giving him an infinite turn.Anyway, it was really interesting at first but after so many loops (got every achievement) I found the general gameplay to be just a giant nuisance. I wanted to see every event and read every instance of dialogue. Thanks for the recommendations! I've read FMD Muramasa before and it was indeed very good, thoroughly recommend it to anyone else here; I have never played Library of Ruina and so I may just check that out next.E33 was an exceptionally cinematic game with a kino final boss fight, but I didn't really find the story spectacular - it's extremely unsubtle in reinforcing the theme of "coming to terms with loss" through the whole thing.I just found that Tsui no Sora has an English translation and have that on the radar - thoroughly recommend SubaHibi to anyone looking for a fantastic thriller!
>>737540787>but I found it mostly an adventure in grinding. I don't understand how you can do an SL1 run? Unless it's just purely in name and you used coloured souls?Nope, a real SL1 run. Just your base stats+equipment. This turns the game from a JRPG into something of a strategy game, where you have to plan carefully what equipment you'll have and what skills you'll use. It's easier than it sounds, weapon switching is broken. SL1 difficulty 9 is where autism comes into play.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKhaSMX0388For Lorde/Prince of Hell the intended strategy is counterattack+stun. Which I did not realise on my first playthrough, so I tanked all of his hits with the revive armourLibrary of Ruina I found very tedious to play through, I much prefer LobCorp's gameplay, but I'm one of those people who hate deckbuilders as a concept. I hate RNG, which is probably why I love BS' SL1 combat so much - zero RNG, zero grinding, just your strategy.I already read Subahibi, and was filtered by the extreme sexual content, Zakuro's route fucked me up. I was way younger back when I read it (18 I believe), and I hadn't been through the experiences I have now (BS and Pynchon really raised the bar for the extreme sexual content I'm willing to tolerate) but I remember greatly enjoying the denpa atmosphere.
>>737535694AstlibraNot a turn based rpg but it's black souls's older, less rapey cousin
>>737542601I think Astlibra is a great game, it's very soulful and I greatly enjoyed the gameplay, but the story feels very amateurish.
>>737542601I've never played, but I keep seeing it mentioned.>>737542669Yeah? It's not worth checking out if you're solely interested in the narrative side of the game?
>>737535694The last DLC was the peak of the game gameplay-wise what are you talking about?Anyway, I would say the only games that kind of gave me that feeling were Baldr Sky and FFXIV Endwalker
>>737542857>The last DLC was the peak of the game gameplay-wise what are you talking about?NTA, but all the way up to the last DLC felt kinda like you could puzzle your way out of fights, if you know what I mean. The DLC seemed like you were meant to have spammed the roguelike mode and grinded to infinity or else spam pocket watches.
>>737542972The other way around.Everything up to the last DLC (except a few Chaos Dungeon bosses) is just a raw stat check. DLC 3 is filled with puzzle bosses and enemies that deal percentage-based damage, so your grinding doesn’t mean shit. I know people who cheated their stats up to the maximum and still couldn’t beat the bosses there
>>737543186>The other way around.Nope.
>>737535694Play better games.
>>737535694funger
>>737543684I go out of my way to not recommend this because of (you)
>>737536252I saw an RPGmaker game a while ago that looked cool but I forgot to write the name down, it was an overworld town and there was one massive dungeon that was supposedly interconnected. It had different themed areas like a water area etc. If anyone knows it that would be cool>>737538950I tried to get into Lob Corp but couldn’t, is it worth trying to stick with it again?>>737542601>>737542857I love both Astlibra and Endwalker but I never thought they had a similar feel to Black Souls. I’ve been meaning to check out Baldr Sky
>>737543684No story, no play.
>>737544116Story is temporary.Gameplay is eternal.
>>737544021You can also check out the VenusBlood series for eroge with a rape anti-hero MC, a quite decent plot, and sometimes really depressing endings (the Chaos routes of GAIA and RAGNAROK in particular)kichikuou rance is like that too
>>737544162I can tolerate mediocre gameplay if the story is goodBut I won't really finish a game with good gameplay if there's no story
>>737544021>I tried to get into Lob Corp but couldn’t, is it worth trying to stick with it again?Yes. Cheat if it's too hard, the game is hard indeed.Library is much easier tho it also has difficulty spikes.
