How did Banjo go from being a universally beloved game to being considered "outdated uncslop"? I genuinely can't see how this game can be considered bad.
>>737558041collect-a-thon slop and yes it's boring thanks for asking
>>737558041WHY THE FUCKING HELL IS NOBODY PAYING ATTENTION TO MY FUCKING THREAD?
>collect the notes>collect the jiggies>collect the jinjos>collect the mumbo tokensits so tedious
>>737560997this don't let uncs fool you into thinking Banjo is a gem, Battletoads is fun though
>>737560997>>737561080This is a weak criticism. They're in completely different places in every environment and require you to take different approaches and use different gameplay mechanics to collect them. It's like saying about RE2 that all you do is shoot and run away from zombies.
>>737558041by one guy spamming one thread 10 times on the /v/ catalog.>the GENERAL PERCEPTION has shifted>the ZEITGEIST has changed>PEOPLE no longer see it the way they used to>the NEW GENERATION holds a different viewpoint>the SOCIOCULTURAL CONTEXT has mutated entirely around this game...or it's one guy
>>737558041I finally played BK just this year and it's the most okay game I've ever played. Barring Grunty's Furnace Fun which was actual dogshit.
>>737558041No one actually dislikes Banjo-Kazooie. The game is just so obviously good that contrarians attack it. It's VERY forced and insincere hate
>>737563346Imagine being so delusional you genuinely believe no one in the world dislikes a game you enjoy.
>>737558041The passage of time. Game's almost 30 years old now. I won't say standards got better but they definitely changed.t. got into video games through BK back in 1998
>>737558041the grafics are horribel no wondur cod is better ur all stupdi for liking this
>>737558041As a kid it was huge and full of amazing mysteries. As an adult it feels like checking boxes. So the main problem is that it's not that good on replays.
>>737558041Zoomies are adhd spergs./thread
>>737558041It's absolute kino. There's very few games out there that are as charming and memorable as Banjo. But I think there's a certain mindset especially among younger people, that they hate anything that wasn't specifically made for "their generation" and that isn't being currently marketed. It's not part of the "zeitgeist" or "trending". Their favorite twitch streamer isn't talking about it. The oldness in itself bothers them. It's an inactive/dead series so to them it must be bad.
>>737563517Name 3 genuinely bad things about Banjo-Kazooie (without mentioning Musical Notes) in order for me to take you seriously
>>737564565I sorta agree sorta don't. I just wish the levels were less linear in terms of the order the game expects you to play them in. SM64 got it right, make it so you have tons of options for what level to choose next
>>737566960You can clear out worlds and break order if you really want to, especially in the back half. There's a clear cut order of operations, but some worlds like Clanker's Cavern and Freezeezy Peak can be passed up wholesale until later if you clean house early on. The biggest issue with doing this isn't ability gating but Mumbo tokens, weirdly enough. Skip a couple worlds and those start becoming a bottleneck.
>>737560997This n*gger probably thinks odyssey is a certified masterpiece eventhough collecting the moons is the definition of tedious
>>737558041A lot of it is just people assuming it would be perfect and thinking anything less than that is terrible. It's sort of a product of its time where the appeal is moving through 3D environments. Those environments are very fun to go through, though.
>>737558041Banjo was never good
Heres a hint: if someone on /v/ starts acting like his opinions matter and he knows something about videogames, he should be ignored. This board is starting to suck off Duke Nukem Forever now.
>>737561478>It's like saying about RE2 that all you do is shoot and run away from zombies.correct, which is why RE4 is so beloved, it finally fixed that boring franchise
Idk, but I’m also a faggot who uses terms like “uncslop” so maybe I’m just in the wrong social circles.
>>737560997These basically mark off that the player did something. Obviously getting one note isn't very hard, but a Jiggy is often the reward for getting to a certain place and maybe using a new move or beating a boss. They're a bit like Achievements, where it doesn't matter how many you have, just what you did that got them.
>>737564810>there's a certain mindset especially among younger people, that they hate anything that wasn't specifically made for "their generationA tale as old as time, thankfully most people who aren’t retarded grow out of it.
>>737560856Fuck off, pauline tripfag.
>>737564810>>737573765This must be why zoomers have a growing interest in retro gaming. The real truth is that Millenials are homosexuals who want to be seen as "serious and mature" & are ashamed of anything silly or "childish".
>>737560997Thats tooie, kazooie actually has decent pacing.
>>737558041Played it last year for the first time, it's decent for about 3/4 of it. It peaks around Mad Monster Mansion, after that it's all downhill. Tooie is total shite, the whole game is a massive chore.
>>737560997Yes lets just completely ignore the character-filled levels, music and platforming challenges you experience to do this.Autism, always to the end point. No wonder you don't seem to be able to enjoy anything.
I'm convinced 80% of the Banjo-Tooie complaints originate from people who played the game without the fast walk cheat code turned on.Don't get me wrong Tooie has a few points of legit contention to it and fair criticisms, but the fast walk is literally a night-and-day difference with how much better it makes the entire game. With it on, it helps to alleviate almost all the common problems people have to with Tooie
>>737566156>>737563517Still waiting, bitch
Its a game from 1997, if anything its popularity lasting so long is impressive. Not everyone has to play it
Why the fuck do we not have new game yet. Literally just >follow the formula of the original game pretty near exactly>create 10 small, simple worlds with good theming and decent design>include tasteful cameos of old characters the fans are attached to>think of a small handful of fun gameplay ideasAnd that's literally ALL you need to do to sell millions of copies. What the fuck is wrong with with them?? Making a new BK would NOT be hard and it would NOT take very much money to develop when the worlds in these games are so fucking small. JUST MAKE A NEW ONE HOLY SHIT IT'S NOT THAT FUCKING DIFFICULT
>>737560997Odyssey sold 30 million copies with 1,300 collectible items.
>>737573418u r mr gay
>>737558041SJWs who were triggered when Grunty said "wench" in the opening.
>>737578702It's from 1998, actually.
>>737558041When you played this as a kid it stood out and made a strong impression, because odds are you didn't also own spyro, mario 64, that donkey kong one or conkers bad fur day all at the same time. With the benefit of hindsight, all these games are different flavors of the same thing because you have easy access to all of these games. You might have a personal favorite, the one that first captivated you, but you can't argue in good faith that it's all that different or superior to any of the other mascot platformer collectathons. If that's one of your favorite genres, you've probably played all of them but if it's not you played one of them and skipped all the others.
>>737558041Rare was never good
