Rauru representing the people who took away that courage, and Link representing the return of what Ganondorf wants. But that could have also been a totally false rumor.

Four Swords Adventures was the only game that wasn't clearly a resurrection or clear continuation of Ganon from a previous game. Even then, that Ganondorf was possessed by the spirit of Ganon, so it really is just a resurrection of Ganon by possessing a guy who also happened to be named Ganondorf. Not that anyone cares about Four Swords Adventures.Up until Skyward Sword, the clear trend of the series was moving away from Ganon.
