What is the best way to get into the Armored Core series? Which one should I start with?
>>
I hear AC3 was insanely good, but it would probably be easier just to get one of the modern PC titles
>>
>>737606627
Almost all of the PS1 and PS2 entries are good. I don't see much reason not to start with the first one.
>>
>>737606681
I usually see anons in these AC threads say that the games released right after the numbered sequels are usually the best ones.
>>
>>737606681
First AC I ever played was Armored Core 2 and then quickly after that AC 2 Another Age. I was mostly playing it at a friends house, could never get very far in the story mode before I had to go. Then when AC III came out I was like 'Oh, fuck yes, this series slaps.' I bought it and was completely disappointed at how barebones it was compared to AA. Thankfully some of the later sequels like Silent Line released and I got my expanded part list and extra features.

AC III did make a huge graphical leap and also improved immensely on the controls, so if you want to get your armored cherry popped, you can do worse honestly.

Project Phantasm
Fuck around and find out what parts do then find out that it sucks dick in the next mission

>one of the modern PC titles
you mean the one modern pc title? the rest need to be emulated

I really wish they would just release the old AC games in pee cee. Even if they are a cheap port that is a borderline emulator as some of those megaman games released recently.
At the very least ac3 (and the "expansions" based on it) and 4 (with the expansion/side game)
>>
i think anything before AC4 has a really good ambience to it, lotsof heavy lifting from the UI, music, and just general retro scifi brooding atmosphere. theyre clunky though until you adapt to the controls.

ac4 would maybe be a good place to start if you care more about graphics and easier controls, but i thought it felt really empty like a tech demo a lot of the time, and it didnt have the same hand crafted feeling of the older games. its a lot faster though if you care about speed.

I think a good starting point would be either AC1 Ac2 or Ac3 if yu prefer slower mech games and are more of a mechwarrior fan than a gundam fan. if you are more of a gundam fan for its super robots you would prefer to playstyle of number 4.

>AAAAAAA I NEED TO PAY MONEY TO PLAY THESE GAMES
>I LITERALLY CANNOT EVER PLAY THEM UNLESS I PAY MONEY FOR A CHEAP PORT
>WHY
>WHY CAN'T I PAY FOR A SHITTY PORT
>>
>>737607220
So why not just emulate them then?
Unless you're really in need of mouse support or something but that would really fuck over the difficulty
>>
>>737607220
I wonder if the series is tied up too much among different publishers that can claim rights so Fromsoftware can't really do anything to help even if they own the IP.

Play 1, Project Phantasma, Master of Arena.

Skip 2 and Another Age if you want. Play the PSP versions of 3, Silent Line, and Last Raven as they add in extra gear and parts. Much better carryover, too. 4 is meh but For Answer is a masterpiece. Good luck trying to find a copy tho. 5 is almost shit but Verdict Day is another masterpiece.

Then play 6.

6, it's the best one

you can basically start with any game, since every numbered entry is it's own universe, completely detached from the others (except for one small connection between 4 and 5, i think)

most of them are fine, though the first ones are maybe harder to get into due to the more mechy controls and higher difficulty

Nice collection of games anon you even have Blood Wake which not many even remember that launch game at all.
>>
i stopped at silent line because i hear the rest of the PS2 games are shit
>>
>>737618954
Not necessarily tho. Nexus has wack ass balance with heat and generator/power management which takes a lot to get used to. Last Raven throws bunch of curveballs, is generally considered pretty hard and harsh, and messes with the part balance again. But they are very much doable and playable AC's. If you liked the previous stuff you should at least try them IMO.
>>
>>737606627
Start with 1 you faggot
>>
>>737618954
You heard wrong, they're not shit. They're THE shit.

Armored Core 1 and it's PS1 sequels, and Armored Core 2 and it's sequels are all related. From 3 onwards they're all original universes of that same number. So, 4 and 4A are related. 5 and it's sequel are related. But 4 and 5 are not related.

You can start wherever. Though, If you start with 6, you'll probably feel like the previous games are janky until 4. I recommend just playing them in order. They're not long games and shouldn't take more than an afternoon each.

Nexus, first one with not-dogshit controls.

Anyone looking for more AC, Project Six/Omega Phenx just went into Open Beta about an hour ago.

Everything under Nexus now has the True Analogs hack, you can get all from CDRomance, so any you feel like, check the PS1 ones just to see how everything started, it's amazing how ahead of the time they where, everything from the series where already there the only old thing was the controls.

That webm is with the old controls, just messing around, this one is with the true analogs.

AC1. It's still a very solid game and every single relevant AC game can be played with analog sticks these days.

I'm gonna play AC6 eventually.....
I got spoiled on aspects of the story later.
How do you guys feel about the disembodied alien Coral waifu?
She got a lot of fanart for a character who as far as I can tell doesn't physically exist...

Love the old "clunk" of the classic AC's, really feel like a lumbering jet fueled giga robot.

>Which one should I start with?
The answer to this question is always the first one.
