Cloud isn't a 'cool' name, so he's only got one trying hard to be cool part, Edge has two, while also having more syllables. It's just too far. Doesn't help that him and Reimi have weird babyface and nothing that's really standout about their aesthetic like the buster sword so trying to be cool falls flat.
Granted, I love SO4's dumbass story, and still tell people about Edge Maverick, professional meteor fighter.

SO4 has a sick combat system and SO6 isn't even bad, it's a pretty good game and Raymond is a cool protag. 5 is the biggest shitter of the franchise, not even the gameplay is fun. The combat feels like you're wading through molasses and the game is chockful of unskippable cutscenes where you just walk and talk like it's a Sony movie game.

Edge's story arc is pretty much doing the Star Trek thing about not interfering with backwater planets' problem, he fucked up when he did exactly that by giving future technology to alternate earth and accidentally destroyed it. He then went giga emo, going so far that being completely silent when you win a battle. Later after his emo phase he decided to get involved again with another planet cause idk. They were chasing some terrorist alien organization or something.
Faze saw his crush getting murdered and he immediately turns evil I think, I remember thinking his betrayal wasn't very well explained.

Yeah. One of the planet you visit is actually the SO1 planet and Edge's best bud is actually the ancestor of SO1's protag. If I'm not mistaken SO2 Claude's ancestor is also in the game.

if you're playing the PS3 version or PC version sure, it fixes a significant number of hte problems with the gameplay systems. Can't fix the story but lmao.
It's probably the only star ocean game I actually like because it's about interstellar travel, I am still mad I got fucking baited so hard by all those ads about so1/2 and they're just medieval fucking nonsense. 3 even teases like it's gonna do more then 75% of the game you're stuck in the FUCKING MEDIEVAL WORLD AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
