The most brilliant twist in gaming history
4 mogs
Be honest: did (You) figure it out right then, right there? No, you didn't.
>>737608918joker and akechi kiss each other while wearing maid outfits
I dont get it
I think the gas station attendant in 4 was a bigger twist. But i unironically felt pancakes was good because i didn't originally catch it at first.
>>737609043What do you mean?
>>737609034The game has a character that is a cat that can only be understood by people who have been into the shadow realm shit. The dude in OPs image arrives during the story as some kinda of bad guy, and overheard the someone mention "pancakes", not realizing that it was the cat who said it, this revealing that he's involved with the shadow realm zone.
>>737608918I didn't befriend this fag because he was annoying, why would I waste my time? Then after 100 hours I miss out on the extra semester due to that. Well I'm not gonna replay the whole fucking game
>>737609043I didn't like the pancake twist because essentially Joker knew something the player didn't.
>>737609143Oh lol damn nice , I was always interested in playing a Persona game any recommendations?
>>737609108The gas station attendant was the get first character you meet in p4 and it's revealed that she was the ultimate big bad and they're the one that gave you the ability to have a persona.
>>737609209I thought that was absolute gartbage because it's a character who fades into the background instantly and never reappears until the end.
>>737608965I honestly didn't I think the vast majority didn't as well. I thought it was strange, but probably just a continuity issue they forgot to fix.
>>737609182What do you mean? Morg tells everyone early in that only they can understand him because of their connection to the palaces. And regardless, igor was the bigger twist in 5.>>737609258I liked it because of that, you are meant to forget them.
>>737608918This twist is dogshit because the protagonist, who is supposed to be the player's self-insert, hides information from the player. Unreliable narration can work in some stories but in games it's almost always a bad idea, especially when your protagonist has zero characterization and exists as a vessel for the player.Akechi being evil was also lame because he turned into a much less interesting character. At least in vanilla, I heard he's fun in Royal's added scenario but I haven't played it.
>>737609334You like shit writing then. It's an asspull.
>>737609484It works in Death Note whenever Light wipes his own memory as part of his keikaku and you have no idea what he set up in advance until it all comes together.
>>737609589Death Note is definitely not perfectly written, but I think that example works fine because Light essentially stops being himself during that plot arc. You could say he lost the protagonist perspective, and then regains it at the end.Whereas in Persona 5 there's this shitty framing device where akstually 90% of the game is Joker retelling events to Sae, which only exists specifically to make the twist work.
>>737608965I thought it was Nanako
>>737609334>the guy who meets you in a prison cell with a demonic voice and somehow knows everything is actual evilWow, what a twist
>>737608965I skipped all the dialogue so no.
the story is 'engaging', but the writing is hardly great.
>>737609334I mean that Joker the character you're playing as and the friend group has information that isn't explicitly told to the player until one in-game month later. This takes away from the social sim aspect.
>>737608918I only enjoyed being bros with Yusuke and Morgana, the rest of story i did not care about at all. All the other characters were idiots.
>>737608918anyone who watches anime knew he was a bad guythat voice actor never plays good people
>>737608918The pancake twist is more forgivable. Where the story shits the bed is during the interrogation when Akechi shoots a guard to justify killing JokerHow the fuck do you still have 14 days of normal gameplay time after that? How does the police not immediately notice that the cop thats supposedly in the morgue is still showing up to work every day
>>737608965That game's writing is pretty bad overall, so this moment just felt like an awkward translation/weird dialogue writing and that's it
>>737613324Yusuke was so based and stood out, that I thought he was a recurring character from P1 or P2.
>>737616150I though the guards were also shadows? Didn't he enter the palace after meeting with Sae in the hallway right before?
>>737617598Yes, we learn that they are shadows and that they are still in a palace after Akechi leaves and the twist is revealed to the player. Within the narrative we know the guards are shadows, but Akechi has no reason to believe he did not shoot a real cop, just as he believes he killed Joker. Which him working with the police at this point should point toward him at least reporting that death
>>737608918I liked Akechi
>>737608965No, but when they showed the twist I was like, "oh yeah that makes sense, I remember thinking that was strange..", but the game has like, what, 80 hours of dialogue, so a line or two feeling a bit off doesn't immediately make me think it's supposed to set something up
As someone who hasn't played persona, let me guess: characters over explain things, narrative is describing things instead of showing them and the lesson is the power of friendship and characters overreact, like every single japanese story ever released. And also the protagonist is a passive non charismatic meet but somehow everyone wants to fuck him.You consume one japanese work, you've seen them all.
>>737608918I'm gonna take memes seriously and get into fights with internet strangers. P5 is one of my all time favourite games and 13 Sentinels' writing fucking clowns on it.
>>737608965I realized then and there that he was aware of the cognitive realm, at least. But it comes too soon in the story to attach him to the killings.
>>737608962fpbp
>>737613324>and Morgana
>>737608965You motherfuckers seriously didn't pick up on this? I hate you retarded cuntsI hope you were at least underage when you played it so you have an excuse
You don't need to catch the pancake twist when the fucking cover of the game makes Akechi look evil. If any 12 year old doesn't immediately clock that he's meant to be antagonistic before they even meet him, they're stupid.
>>737608965I waited until P5 Royal came out on Steam so I was already spoiled on most of the game's story just from browsing /v/
>>737620169Damn that sucks you probably already knew that Makoto takes huge shits too. Ruined the game for yourself
>playing p5>never noticed the pancake thing until it was explained at the end>"holy fuck how did I not catch that god I'm fucking slow">cut to some years later, playing p5 royal>see the pancake thing again, remember it this time ofc>"heh, yeah guess it was pretty clever">some days later, wrapping up maruki's confidant>turns out he saw you in that alley when you returned from the first palace>failed to notice it again award>mfw realizing that if I actually was the MC in one of these games I'd almost certainly just get tricked and diethank god jrpg's are designed for slow children like myself
Its so interesting to see the difference between the perspective of people who come in with prior knowledge of the game and dont even notice the red herring that sojiro and makoto's sister are part of a rival team using the metaverse app to upend the political system.
>>737609185Persona 4 Golden
>>737608918It's based.
>>737608918let's see you defend this
>>737622568That's really easy. Killing someone is a form of forgiving them by ending their worldly suffering. Forcing someone to spend the rest of their life making up for their mistake and then telling them at the end that it still wasnt enough, that is a true lack of forgiveness.
>>737608965Its blatantly obvious its him just by looking at the games cover art and playing the first 5 minutes of the game.
>>737608918I made some great pancakes this morning
>>737622736It'd be great if Futaba was stone cold and said that she wanted him to rot in a jail cell for the rest of his life, but she didn't actually say that.
>>737612061It WAS Nanako, she got away with EVERYTHING
>>737618883>man who only plays video games and watches anime thinks he understands all of Japanese literature
>>737619919>the cover of the gameWhat, this? Is there another cover I'm missing?
>>737608965no I was already skipping half of the text by that point because every dialogue was getting repeated 10 times I figured it'd be him when I watched the trailer and learned that the detective is the last one who joins the team though
>>73761914013 sentinels is one of the most underrated games ever
>>737624006The Royal cover, which is the game that's on every platform, the version they want you to play, the version that is considered official and canon. It's nearly impossible to obtain Royal without coming across this artwork that fairly clearly shows Akechi being suspicious at least.
>>737624547just looks like a chuuni to me
I played P5 a few years ago when I borrowed a pal's PS3 since PS3 emulation was shit at the time. I picked up Royal the other day finally because it was 10 dollars. Not going to start it any time soon, but I figure 10 dollars is worth seeing the new stuff and I'll use a guide this time to max everything since I did the OG blind.
>>737624532honestly it's not really underrated. Basically everyone who plays it agrees that it's one of the best games ever made. The problem is not enough people play it in the first place, and despite its genuinely rather good sales, no one *talks* about it because of how easy it is to spoil.
>>737608918It was fine. People acting like it was amazing or terrible are overstating things, it was a decent twist and nothing more.
>>737608965I didn't but Akechi is being an idiot there.
